Stub sorting

edit

Hello Squids and Chips,

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

You can view the full list of stub types at WP:STUBS.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks! — jmorgan (talk) 05:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

California Cups

edit

Your suggestion to merge the California Cup races is interesting but I have two problems with it. One, I don't know enough about wiki code to do such a thing, and two, I can't see a good way to do such a thing and still have the winners of each race clearly defined. If you can do the first task, and can explain how the second might work...I have no problem with the idea.Ki Longfellow 01:20, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The seventh day

edit

A tag has been placed on The seventh day, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Speedy deletion of 70.241.x.x Range

Please do not make personal attacks. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images in violation of our biographies of living persons policy will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- WebHamster 00:57, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

maths rating template

edit

As I was doing some cleanup, I noticed you tagged a few articles with the maths rating template some time back. Here are a few things you may not know about this template:

  • There is already a list of mathematics articles that does not require talk page tags. The only purpose of the tags is to assign quality, importance, and field ratings to articles.
  • When you add a maths rating template, please fill in all three parameters (field, class, importance) right away. Otherwise, someone else has to go back and do it.
  • The only articles that should have the frequentlyviewed parameter set are the ones listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Wikipedia 1.0/Frequently viewed/List.

Arthur eps

edit

Hi Sq&C--First off, the table subpage looks great! I'm boggled to death that you claim to be able to recreate all the Arthur plots for seasons 1-8 from MEMORY--that's just WAAAAY too doggone much TV! :) But if you can do it, more power to ya! While I'm here, I noticed you were trying to do....something....here[1] Whatever it was, it doesn't seem to have worked--I look at the page, and I don't see anything that looks like what you were trying for. What were you after, there? Maybe I can give you some help with it. Same with the interwiki link for...was that Welsh you were trying to link to? It doesn't look like it showed up as you planned. Anyhow--good job with the layout on that table, and I'll be glad to see what you do with the episodes. Thanks! Gladys J Cortez 00:22, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm assuming you're also referring to the category I added which shows up at the bottom of the page in the category box (which only appears if there are categories). The interwiki link shows up in the languages box (which only appears if there are interwiki links) under the toolbox in the side bar. I think that was Welsh. It appears to be a new page on that Wikipedia.
I've watched reruns of the episodes too many times and some of them I can't help but watch again. I'm still messing around with the table. Although it makes for better readability, it lowers editability. --Squids'and'Chips 00:44, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that was what I was referring to, though obviously something went VERY wrong with the link to the diff I was trying to post. (I really, REALLY need to brush up on my wiki-markup.) So now, at least I understand what you were doing with the category. (At first, it looked to me like you were linking the article to itself, which...yeah, I don't know what I was thinking either. I was at work, what can I say.) I don't see your Welsh link, though...is that supposed to appear on the page, or is it just a reference marker for something? (As you can see, I've done no interwiki linking myself!) The table looks great--and yeah, those are SOOOOOOoooo much fun to edit, aren't they? Supposedly there's a WYSIWYG editor gadget for WP, where you can edit in plaintext like in MS Word, and copy-paste things like tables directly into articles without having to fuss around with the spacing and formatting. I think I'm going to try it, if I can remember its name. On the subject of the table--I might be able to flesh out the episode descriptions a bit, as well. I've watched my fair share of Arthur myself, sad to say...:) Talk to you soon....Gladys J Cortez 03:16, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:56, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:24, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of List of Cyberchase cybersites

edit

The article List of Cyberchase cybersites has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

In-universe fancruft. No sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Joule's law

edit

Your redirect hacking was pretty circular, and essentially recreated the state of long ago by a copy/paste move from an old version of Joule's laws to Joule's law. But a disambig with a redlink is not nearly as useful as a link to an article that covers both laws, which is why it had evolved to that. If you see a better way to do it, some discussion would be in order. I reverted your changes. Dicklyon (talk) 22:46, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:23, 18 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! I personally will be aiming to lead the board next month, but for anyone who thinks they can put in a better effort, I will give a $10 Amazon gift card to any editor who scores more disambiguation points in May. Also, I will be setting up a one-day contest later in the month, and will try to set up more prizes and other ways to make this a fun and productive month. Cheers! bd2412 T 18:50, 28 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I see you haven't edited in a while - you are missed! We sure could use your deft disambiguation skills, these days. bd2412 T 19:08, 15 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello Squids and Chips,

I am Bowen Yu, a computer science PhD student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Currently, we are working on a project studying the main article and sub article relationship in a purpose of better serving the Wikipedia article structure. It would be appreciated if you could take 4-5 minutes to finish the survey questions. Thanks in advance! We will not collect any of your personally information.

Thank you for your time to participate this survey. Your response is important for us!

Survey Invite

edit

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they affect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

Survey Link: http://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH?Q_DL=3dz0m2ubQw1KSnb_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH_MLRP_6rlhaavdOtgxigl&Q_CHL=gl

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 19:40, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Admin help

edit

hello squids and chips I want to become an adminstratior maself as well as i have some request for editing some of the page ....if u reply soon taking it as an emergency I'll be very grateful.

Becoming an administrator is a long and difficult process, which requires community input. You would need to be nominated and then show that you have a good temperament, good judgement, a good understanding of Wikipedia guidelines, have made significant contributions to the project, and can demonstrate a need for the administrator tools. Keep in mind that you can perform probably 95% of tasks here without being an administrator. If you really want to learn more about the process, you can read the information at WP:RFA and some of the pages linked therein, including Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship. It is not an easy process.
If you wish to edit an article, you may do so. If it is protected, or you otherwise don't feel comfortable making the edit, you should make an edit request on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 09:32, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
