Stub Flood

edit

Just a question, and please, don't take this the wrong way, but are you planning to go back and expand on the NES stubs you've been putting up recently? I really like your drive, and it's a cool project, I just hope we'll have some nice beefy articles at some point. And crap, this isn't meant to be condecending, I really couldn't figure a better way to word this. --InShaneee 04:39, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you -- I agree. I'll use cvg-stub instead. Have you fixed the other ones? If not, I'll go back and do it.. Zantastik 05:26, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

As of Yesterday the format for WP:RM#Notices has changed. So I have reformatted you entry of Golgo 13 (video game). Please check it over and make sure I've done it correctly. As there is no talk page entry yet I'm not sure if you need to add the move template or not. Usually one ought to do so and also add the comment as to why you want to move it or if you think it is controversial then layout a straw poll as suggested at WP:RM#How to format a straw poll. ArbCom

edit

Actually, I did apply... however I pulled out of the race. I don't think I'd want to do it :-)

Incidently (side note), CheeseDreams is an extremely disruptive user. Think your pet skunk weirdos, then multiply that by 10 and you'll start to understand why CD got banned for a year. - Ta bu shi da yu 07:00, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

P.S. she's not a new user. This is the second arbcom that she's been through, she once vandalised my page, she put 5 or more disruptive RFCs on various people who she disagreed with, she brough at least 3 arbcom requests as harassment, she was found to have 5 sockpuppet accounts, she posted her password to her main CheeseDreams account to a known trolls account and no longer has control of it (an admin was forced to reset it), she most likely posts under another account regularly and uses CheeseDreams to spread an anti-Christianity POV (she's said this before - she says that she edits controversial articles and makes them more controversial), see [1] for her edit of Katoomba Christian Convention where she added a comment to the main article namespace and NOT my talk page (clear harassment), she never cites her sources even though many of us have asked her to and she does not contribute with NPOV edits. I think that's really more than enough, however there is more (if you are interested). - Ta bu shi da yu 07:08, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

WP:AN

edit

Please don't move discussions away from there. If you want to put a pointer to such a discussion somewhere else, fine, but removing stuff from there unilaterally is over the line. Noel (talk) 17:37, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I understand (and sympathize with) your concern, but a lot of admins (e.g. me) don't bother to read most RfC's, etc (too much political crap), but do keep an eye on WP:AN, and seeing the whole discussion there (and the size of it) clues us in to when an important issue has come up. Also, keeping it on WP:AN means it will be archived in a known location, as opposed to RFC's (which can wind up being deleted). Noel (talk) 17:58, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think the best thing to do would be to put a request for comment on Recycling Troll or on the policy. The problem is that RfCs often amount to pouring blood in the water while shouting "HERE SHARKY SHARKY SHARKY." Snowspinner 19:43, Mar 9, 2005 (UTC)

License

edit

Hi, is there an advantage to putting a notice on my user page licensing my articles to the public domain? Would anyone, finding my articles, be likely actually trace it back to my user page and realize "Oh, I can use this as a public domain source"? I guess it can't hurt. I wonder, why doesn't Wikipedia just release everything into the PD, instead of GFDL? My main concerns are:

  • I don't want someone to be able to rip off my work, change it, and then claim it's their property, and
  • I want it to be free for everyone to use without asking permission.

Rad Racer 14:06, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Due to the sheer numbers of people who may release into the public domain (or some other Open license), a look at the list + the article history, it is quite possible that someone could figure out if an article can be PD. The problem is that your two points above are essentially mutually exlusive. You either give everyone permission and they can do anything with it (Public Domain), or you release it under an Open license (like GFDL), but then the license is RESTRICTED to ONLY GFDL. There is no way around this, unfortunately, but it is not all bad. Of course in your case, it is unlikely that every article in Wikipedia will ever be PD, so your concerns about ripping off your work are limited. PD does have the flexibility of letting other Open license become compatible with your changes without having to ask your permission. Hope this helps. -- RM 18:10, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I always try to make small articles (esp. biographies) hit the major points of notability lest it be put up for deletion like Graeme Devine was. --Mrwojo 20:14, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your support on WP:RFA. – ABCD 18:32, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment on my talk page - I think we are close in our outlook here. I think those who object to adminship requests on the basis of edit summaries are being rather anally retentive. It's all rather silly. I often make large contributions to articles to which I am the sole or major contributor (by a long, long way). Any edit summary I make for these articles is solely for my own benefit - and if I don't see the value of making one, I shan't. So I often make no edit summary.

Now, if an editor has a dozen messages on their talk page to make edit summaries because they're annoying other editors of the pages they frequent - then I can see why some may object to an adminship request. But if there are no such comments, then where's the problem? jguk 20:44, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Collaboration

edit

I am in Richmond and we have the Pocahontas Parkway to show for the new public-private partnership. This one is a bit anemic volume-wise and has a stiff toll, recently increased. However, IMHO, the road would not ever have been built if it had to wait for placement on VDOT's 5 and 10 years plans, due to both the high cost and politics, and will be able to meet its debt. The high cost was due to the high level bridge over the James River. The politics are basically that it hurt the City of Richmond the most, hurt Henrico County to a lesser degree, and benefited Chesterfield County. Those 3 are the dominant factors in Richmond metro affairs. When a new exit is created for the Richmond International Airport, I think the volume will increase. Despite the high tolls, savvy commercial users will go for the time and mileage savings. Not all projects can deliver both, but this one does, even with the high toll. Hi, I'm not sure what a non-admin could do to clear out copyright problems. Helping vfd would be nice (you could only clear out keep votes). As for reporting the same person on wp:vip, just hit ctrl+f and search for the guy before you edit. Only takes a second, but I hope that clears up a lot of your problem. Oh, and if you're looking, I recommend checking out wikipedia:maintenance--it's always got things to do. Cheers! Meelar (talk) 01:19, Apr 9, 2005 (UTC)

Yes, there are a number of things non-admins can do to help with maintanence tasks. Hm, if there's no page detailing that we could probably use one, but I'm a bit too busy to start one now. Today's 'Cat' featured picture writes that rat babies are called kittens. In the U.S. (west coast) I've only heard rat babies be called 'pups'. Perhaps this is a dialectic discrepancy?--Nectarflowed (talk) 03:33, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I've only heard them called "pups" also, but there is no shortage of Google hits that support the "kitten" name as well. Could they both be correct? – ClockworkSoul 03:51, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi Rad Racer. As the sole author of this article (well, apart from my rewording a few things), I thought I'd get your feedback before I do something drastic with it. I've been looking over a few references, and it seems that "International Chiefs of Police" is actually a nickname, and the official title is "International Association of Chiefs of Police". I made the change on the content of this article, but I also want to move this page to International Association of Chiefs of Police. Do you agree with my proposed move, or do you think the original article name is the correct term? Thanks, Deathphoenix 16:06, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:2770-NIDA-Cigarettes-Close-up.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:2770-NIDA-Cigarettes-Close-up.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:063pipe1.jpeg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 06:23, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cookienumber.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. NIDA censorship

first of all hats off to the person who created the NIDA wikipedia article. You started a great forum to inform the public of both sides of NIDA drug research.

but have you seen it recently? It's been completely dumbed down. Every bit of controversy has been removed. And by NIDA themselves. The IP address assigned to their collective user account has, bit by bit removed every mention of controversial research. check it out [2]

Congrats. You've been censored by the US government. So are you going to bend over and take it like a bitch? or are you going to be checking that page every day to make sure that no patriarchal agency will shove words down your throat and call it the truth.

Unspecified source for Image:Castlequest Game.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Castlequest Game.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:25, 24 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 11:25, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Title sleuth.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Redirect of Condition Yellow

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Condition Yellow, by EEMeltonIV (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Condition Yellow is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Condition Yellow, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:10, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Spacesht.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Spacesht.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Unspecified source for Image:Anslinger.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Anslinger.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:06, 31 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 16:06, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Kilgore2.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kilgore2.jpg.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Platoon.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Platoon.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. I am unfamiliar with the series as I believe all other members of the discussion are and I was hoping you could weigh in with your thoughts as to whether we should retain individual articles, whether we should merge them into one, and whether the games relate to each other as a series. Proposed deletion of Robert K. McBride

The article Robert K. McBride has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable candidate who never actually won an election. References are either dead links or are not relevant to the subject.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DarkAudit (talk) 03:34, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:INCB04.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 01:47, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Strength of Nations

edit

The article The Strength of Nations has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Can't find any sources to support an article. Checked regular Google and GBooks, and also ran it through the custom Google search maintained by WikiProject Video Games and came up with zero reviews or results. Obviously being from 1988 it's a bit before the internet age, but still, if it were notable you think there'd even be a trivial mention somewhere. Nope. Nothing.
