Odd made a thread where Wellington fans can debate him, there’s a musician’s draft game, VHS made a thread about easy to learn languages and Angelica is asking for advice with domestic abuse to help a friend. Those are the [not so] big things going on right now. NatriumGedrogt (talk) 21:53, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
I’m pretty sure the essay contest is de facto abandoned as well, though they did create a thread to show the medals. NatriumGedrogt (talk) 21:54, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

- No problem! :) You deserve it! :) BTW, I've got a counterfactual history question for you: What do you think that Russia's trajectory over the last 103 years would have looked like in the absence of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917? Futurist110 (talk) 21:36, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Well, at the time of the October Revolution Kerensky was cracking down on people with other opinions and de-democratising local government and the army. Across the country peasants and soldiers were violently redistributing land on their own. The Kerensky government was dominated by people who opposed this land redistribution so their response would probably be violent. Since the Soviet agricultural policy, even under Stalin, had widespread support among poor peasants and that of the Republicans had not I would envision some major changes in the Russian economy. 1: Ukraine, Central Asia and the Caucasus could feasibly secede since the Ukrainian peasants were a major force and Kerensky’s policy was very unpopular among the soldiers and peasants meaning he would probably not have the manpower to retain the non-Russian regions 2: as a result of the Republic’s focus on landholders and richer peasants a strong base for a capitalist economy would develop but without the Soviet industrial programmes Russia would probably mainly export grain and raw resources, the most valuable of which were lost because of Ukrainian and Caucasian independence. The lack of harbours, industry, valuable resources and the relatively low quality of Russian farmland would probably entail a Russia not dissimilar to Namibia today. 3: Ukraine, because of its natural advantages, would probably take Russia’s place as the main industrial base of Eastern Europe as well as the primary exporter of iron and coal so instead of Russia Ukraine would probably become Eastern Europe’s largest power while the Caucasian states with their oil would probably be more akin to Kuwait economywise and as such probably be at least somewhat rich and relatively big players in East European and Middle-Near Eastern politics. This scenario would also probably entail a geographically bigger Ukraine and under Petliura would probably 1: have a strong welfare state, workers democracy etc. and 2: have a better relation with the West since it was not communist and seemingly didn’t want to a port their revolution and had a bunch to useful natural resources ready to be invested in. This would also mean a more positive image for socialism, mainly associated with Petliura and Sun Yat Sen. The Bolsheviks probably the Mensheviks and Left SRs would be banned in Russia as would most other left and many centre and right wing movements. Either Kerensky would be overthrown by the Black Hundreds or he would remain de facto dictator of a “democracy” that was about as democratic as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The result for China would probably be that the rapid rise of Marxism wouldn’t take place so Anarchism would remain the main far-left current though these would probably not be able to overthrow the Republic. NatriumGedrogt (talk) 13:12, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
The world would be so different that the event bearing the name WWII would at least be an entirely different conflict from our WWII and possibly there would not be a second such war at all. Perhaps we would see an era dominated by conferences of various great powers (US, UK, ROC, France, Germany, Italy, Ukraine; perhaps Spain, Russia or the Netherlands as well) with shifting alliances rather than a split between two camps. Without our WWII France and Britain would keep their Empires a while but France was demographically in decline and not the economic and military power it once was so its pretty useless empire would not allow it to gain dominant status, Britain was economically in decline because it had destroyed the export markets in its empire in order to fund the industry that was supposed to do the exporting. The USA was only shaken from its isolationism by WWII and China wouldn’t have the industrial capacity to take centre stage so a new global balance of power might be made between all these powers and shape world politics around it. Poptagasthuis moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Poptagasthuis, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 14:24, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
It’s not a draft. It’s a translation. Translations are allowed, if I remember correctly, at the standards of the Wiki it is translated from. On Dutch wiki it is not customary to cite sources. Instead they add a bibliography. I didn’t copy the bibliography because I cannot know whether it was used as a source for the part the article I translated. The only objection that can be made in this, I believe, is that I did not translate the entire article. NatriumGedrogt (talk) 22:13, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Edit summary (Lev Shestov)
editWhile I agree with your edits, and in fact added a few of my own in the same direction (it's historically correct and follows WP:KYIV), to say you were "Replacing Ukrainian spelling with proper English spelling" is incorrect, as both are acceptable in English, neither is, in fact, Ukrainian (both are transliterations after all), and the tendency is to privilege the latter over the former. Cheers. Ostalgia (talk) 18:37, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

WikiProject Anarchism checking in
editHey there! I noticed you're on the WikiProject Anarchism members list, but you don't appear to have been very active in this subject area for some time. Just in case you're still interested, here's a little update:
- In the past couple years, we have brought four articles to Featured status, including the ones on Nestor Makhno, La Salute è in voi, The May Pamphlet and "The Day Before the Revolution". We're likely to get even more to this status in the near future, so stay tuned to the front page for some of our best articles on the platform.
- A number of our most vital articles have been reviewed and achieved Good Article status, including ones on Gaetano Bresci, Camilo Cienfuegos, Joseph Déjacque, Luigi Galleani, Paul Goodman, and the Kronstadt rebellion. As these "vital articles" are generally considered among the most important on the platform, we aim to get as many as possible to GA and FA status over the coming years.
- We recently hit the first milestone for our stub-expansion project, getting the number of stubs down to under 1/5th of our total articles. This means that the vast majority of our articles are now relatively substantial, as we expand and add greater detail to the articles that lack sufficient information. We hope to narrow this number down even further, so more articles have the information they deserve.
- We just started a cleanup drive, in which we are aiming to resolve the problematic parts of our articles, from finding citations for unsourced sections to fixing up formatting errors. In doing this, we intend to make sure our articles provide the best possible reading experience, without unsourced claims or ugly tags littering the page.
If you want to get more involved in the project, please feel free! We always need an extra pair of hands to help out with our ever-growing project. If you want to help out with one of the above efforts, go right ahead. If you want to keep more up to date with the project's activities, consider adding our noticeboard to your watchlist or adding your name to our mailing list. On the other hand, if you think you're time with the project is over, then consider removing your name from the members list, but we do hope you're still interested in our wee project.
All the best to you, whatever your future plans are. Regards, --Grnrchst (talk) 11:21, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
