Hello. where you the author of "List of Foxtel Channels" and "List of Austar channels}? Someone has taken it upon themselves to delete those two articles and they where invaluable as a reference and it's difficult to find the information you provided outside of the country (I am in the US) can you undelete them? The user who deleted your pages decided to delete all similar pages from Wikipedia because I don't know..boredom? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.229.11.150 (talk) 17:40, 3 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Shaun_Micallef_-_Thank_God_You're_Here.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Garion96 (talk) 10:06, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Strangely, I came across it because I visited your userpage, saw that it said you were 22, and thought, "I wonder when his birthday is?". Speedy deletion of Template:Map of Western Australia

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:Map of Western Australia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 19:53, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm rather new to this Wki thing and I am not sure how you are meant to get a response to me or how I can send you a private message with the email address. Either way, I need access and would appreciate it if you wrote how we can go about this on your wall. Am I right in understanding, that as of this moment the only persion that can alter stuff on Dan's wall are you and Dan?

Thank you very much for your time.

Euro precedence on ITN

edit

The Euro is at near all-time highs against currencies other than the dollar, including the pound sterling. Also your rearranged sentence doesn't take account of the fact that the psychological value of €1 > $1.50 has been reached.

I have changed it back for now.

zoney talk 11:07, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm inclined to agree, I was surprised that it appeared there. It could even be removed if no-one objected. However, at least it means ITN isn't entirely predictable with what shows up there. There are altogether too many people who think ITN is supposed to be the five most important news stories according to Wikipedia. Of course, the title "In the news" isn't very explanatory. zoney talk 11:53, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Riana's request for bureaucratship

edit

Dear Mark, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats.
I would, however, like to thank you for taking the time to voice your support, despite concerns cited by the opposition. Although RfA/B isn't really about a person, but more about the community, I was deeply touched and honoured by the outpouring of support and interest in the discussion. I can only hope that you don't feel your opinion was not considered enough - bureaucrats have to give everyone's thoughts weight.
I also hope that the results of this RfB lead to some change in the way we approach RfBs, and some thought about whether long-entrenched standards are a good thing in our growing and increasingly heterogenous community.
I remain eager to serve you as an administrator and as an editor. If at any point you see something problematic in my actions, please do not hesitate to call me out. ~ Riana 12:44, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please go to Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page/Candidates‎ and explain why you added the blurb on Rahho, despite there not being a consensus to put it up. We are trying to avoid drive-by admins, like yourself here, so I propose you take it of the itn, post your comments, and wait till there is a larger consensus. --Plasma Twa 2 (talk) 18:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Drive-by admin is not my phrase, and remember this is not about how much support it has now, but how much support it had when you first added it. Gaining a strong consensus is what keeps us from having huge arguements over items - it doesn't seem that there will be one over this one now, but that does not mean it should be ignored. There have been many arguements over why a majority-supported article isn't on, and vice versa. It common sense to wait more then six hours to put something up.
Your "courtesy extended to the non-admins to express their views" statement pretty much makes you a hypocrite. Telling me not to express authority when you're cleary doing it right now? Rich. The item has enough support to go on now, but two other users agreed with me that you added it too quickly, while another commented on you adding it up despite consensus. I don't want blood to be exchanged over this, but remember to wait until there is a larger consensus to avoid this in the future. --Plasma Twa 2 (talk) 07:04, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

<scratches head> Maybe I don't think in such complicated ways with respect to security. If we see someone breach confidentiality, I think it is only prudent that we remove access to privileged information.
As we are all volunteers, we share collective responsibility.
From my perspective, we are already closing the barn door when the horse has already bolted, but still it is a wise gesture to make.
To stretch the metaphor slightly: are you advocating we leave all other barn doors open until those horses have escaped too?
--Kim Bruning (talk) 06:46, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just to expand on that slightly: I think that the fundamental requirement for the channel is that people need to be able to handle privileged information responsibly, as it is intended as a location for foundation and OTRS and etc to communicate with trusted people from en.wikipedia. This is also why it is a closed channel you see. It's not a clubhouse for admins, or at least it was never intended to be. --Kim Bruning (talk) 07:08, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

the first 5 citations in the article actually specify 8:00 PM as the time.

However, the sources I added support the claim that "some sources did say it would be 8:08 PM instead of 8:00." I even thought that at first. ViperSnake151 14:59, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re Carly Lucini

Hi, I appreciate what you're trying to do, but you're leaving the article with nothing in it. That seems rash and unnecessary. I didnt write the article, and it's been a long time since I saw the first years of Home and Away, but that plot summary appeqars to be accurate to me, and it can all be sourced directly to the soap. Is there any part of the information there that you feel is incorrect? If so, it would be more appropritate to remove those parts instead of the entire lot. As one of the original characters, Carly is more notable than most. There are a lot of books, old articles etc covering the early soap material.GunGagdinMoan 18:06, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Westaustmast.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Westaustmast.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

External links Ourbrisbane.com Mount Gravatt - This is actually a dead link and this site appears on many pages about Brisbane, all leading to 404 pages

Mount Gravatt Hawks Soccer Club.

Mount Gravatt Queensland - This website also appears on many Brisbane related pages and is an accommodation booking site.

The above are just a small sample of similar sites I regulalry find on Wiki

Regarding Operation Mobilisation page

edit

Hi Mark, I've been looking at the situation you reported for the Operation Mobilisation page and have a replacement text with citations from a new book on the history of the organisation. I haven't dealt with copyright violation stuff on Wikipedia before and don't quite know how to proceed. The text on the copyright infringement page seems to relate more to when the entire article is in violation, rather than what you reported which was a clearly identifiable section (History section). Is it allowable for me to revert back to the last full version then delete the offending section and insert the new section? How do I alert the admins, if that's what I need to do? I realise that time is of the essence, but don't want to break protocol here. Cheers 82.9.199.44 (talk) 11:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bankwest Tower

edit

"The bank, which was at the time wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia, consulted then-Premier Brian Burke in deciding whether to invest in the project." Its a great pity we can't say or speculate on what probably happened. I wonder if the WA Inc records commented on a likely phone call from Burke to Fischer. My personal recollection at the time was that the powers within the bank were livid that as well as suddenly having become reluctant property developers, they'd been locked into a long-term lease which was of little of no value to it. I was a peon there. –Moondyne 14:09, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Whilst it's quite likely you'll have heard this news on the grapevine, in your email inbox, or even in person - I thought that it was sufficiently exciting to warrant giving each of you a 'new messages' orange bar! This particular orange bar has been brought to you to let you know that Wikimedia Australia is now open for members!

I'm not on the committee or anything, and that's where the credit is due in getting everything to this point, but I think it would be absolutely fantastic for folks who wish to support the australian wiki community, to go ahead and sign up - we're quite likely to be the world's fatest growing chapter at the moment! Speedy deletion of Image:Australian embassy bombing flag.jpg

edit
A tag has been placed on Image:Australian embassy bombing flag.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Australian embassy bombing flag.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Template talk:Infobox Film#Written by?

edit

Hi, there'll likely be a discussion on what changes (if any) should be made to the infobox, but until that happens, if there's a specific film article that a writer does not feel credits or explains each writer's contribution to the screenplay properly, this is something that can be fixed immediately. You may not want to release this writer's name so widely as on a template talk page, which is why I'm dropping this note here. Just let me know which article it is and as long as it's not going to be a controversial change, I'll be happy to amend and cite it accordingly. Steve TC 09:09, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re User Behavior

edit

Re a certain user, there's also issues of removing info from several pages to prove a point when irked over an edit instead of discussing the issue. Just thought I'd mention it here (I'm not comfortable on his talk page), since I've come across him adding provably false info, strange unsourced claims, or waging edit wars on a number of entertainment pages over recent months. There's a profane blow-up here (which the anonymous user he assumes is someone else's sock-puppet deleted part of) related to Amblin; I checked the only source he's cited and, at least in the YouTube copy, there's no mention whatsoever matching the one he claims (possibly going on a wonky memory, which can happen to the best of us; possibly not, since in the past he has added deliberate, proven misinformation to IMDb and used it as evidence on Wikipedia, and vice versa, mostly pertaining to rumors or Dave the Barbarian). His behavior can't really be put down to a one-time lapse, since it happens constantly, and the blanking of his own talk page to get people to "quit complaining" is in the same league. Just for the record, anyway, though you probably noticed it already and it may not make a difference as far as whether he's gone too far yet. I'm probably expending too much energy on this anyway, as only an occasional Wikipedia editor, but this individual makes me nervous. -- Aleal (talk) 22:17, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I just noticed this users return too. I understand shortening the block due to assuming good faith about his declaration to be more civil(ised), but all his initial edits since the block expired have been the same disruptive behaviour as before, on the same pages. He undertook extremely WP:Pointy distuptive edits at List of science fiction themes (reverted, but not by me), and continues to ignore the consensus we are trying to build on the talk page, resorting to ALL CAPS SHOUTING, and blaming me for forcing him into destroying the article rather than abide by consensus. Also already has vandalism warnings on his talk page due to edits at List of members of the WWE Hall of Fame. :-(.
Unfortunately, i think any limited period block is only going to make him act even more aggresively, as he seems to feel he is in a personal war with other editors. I'll admit to feeling relief when the block was indefinite - he just doesn't seem to be learning, no matter how many people talk with him. If not an indef block, then there is some kind of probation that can be used? Yobmod (talk) 09:51, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

[POINT OF VIEW]

edit

Another innovation pioneered on 96FM in 1988 was the 'Input Line' 2211296. Effectively just a humble answering machine taking listener comments, opinions and feedback. The best of these responses were then played back on-air as a segment. Put simply the input line gave the public the chance to speak freely about what they thought about 96fm.

Sadly, the '96fm input line' has long since been discontinued.

Equally sad is not only the input line passing into fond memory, but now in 2009 vehicles like wikipedia are being censored by somebody who is obviously connected to the station.

Now the page has been protected from anonymous edits.

Whilst it is acknowleged that wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and thereby should be factual. When writing about historical events (some now more than 20 years ago) the obvious comparison will be made against todays outcomes.

Wikipedia is not a corporate website designed to promote the station and its current compliment of staff. Nor should it be used to defame individuals. However removing listed URLs from the ASX concerning a public announcement made to the market is sanitising the editorial content to suit the management's purpose.

96fm is a much loved part of the Perth culture. However if it wants to promote its own agenda it should use its own website to do so. If current station employees wish to make alterations to editorial content of wikipedia they should do so publicly by declaring their employment. . . .for your prodigious work on Emu Brewery! It raised a couple of idle thoughts. One: Have you considered using a small-template page-number system for footnotes? Eg, like the one I found and used in updating the Studebaker article where page numbers are both important and frequent. Two: The "new" (Canning Vale) Swan Brewery is not yet accorded reasonable WP coverage. Its instigator Lloyd Zampatti moved mountains to make it a fully automated plant, a veritable wonder of the world. Its takeover by Alan Bond linked it into the ruinous fantasies of WA Inc, but even the Kiwi ownership has probably not changed the system much. File source problem with File:Boat Quay.jpg

edit
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Boat Quay.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Finavon (talk) 16:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

(from User talk:Finavon):

It took a bit of hunting but I found the following in relation to the above image:

  • It was uploaded by User:MichaelJanich as File:Boat quay.jpg in February 2003
  • It wasn't tagged for copyright by the uploader
  • I re-uploaded it under its present name to fix the capitalisation late in 2003, and (wrongly) marked it as GFDL
  • Years later, the original image got tagged as GFDL-presumed
  • In 2007 it got tagged for deletion for not having enough license information, at which point the original uploader tagged it GFDL-self
  • Despite this, it still got deleted.

Anyway, it seems to me that we have enough information/evidence to keep the image and mark it as GFDL-author referring to the original uploader. However, if you think it's a bit iffy, feel free to delete it. I'm sure there are much better free photos of Boat Quay out there which can replace it. - Mark 01:45, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for sorting that. As you say it is not a high quality image (File:Boat quay singapore cbd.JPG is better), but I have tried to improve it before moving to Commons. - Finavon (talk) 07:32, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Message regarding your use of the No Multi License Template

edit

In case you are not aware, the Wikimedia Foundation has proposed that the copyright licensing terms on the wikis operated by the WMF – including Wikipedia – be changed to include the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC-BY-SA) license in addition to the current GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) as allowed by version 1.3 of the GFDL. The community has approved this change with 75.8% in favor, and on June 15, 2009, the change will take effect.
You currently have {{NoMultiLicense}} on your user or user talk page, which states that your edits are licensed under the GFDL only. On or before June 15, this template will be changed to reflect Wikipedia's new licensing terms. If you accept the licensing change, you do not need to do anything (and feel free to remove this message); if you do not accept it, we regret that you will no longer be able to contribute to the encyclopedia. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template if you have any comments.

MSU Interview

edit

Dear Mark,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 04:02, 20 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:East Perth.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:East Perth.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 07:32, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Please claim your upload(s): File:Mark Wikipedia Button Small.png

edit

Hi, This image was seemingly uploaded prior to current image polices, Thank you.

However, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure all media on English Wikipedia is correctly licensed and attributed it would be appreciated if you were able to confirm, that it was your own work, by marking it as {{own}}, amending the {{information}} added by a third party, and by changing the license to an appropriate "self" variant. You can also add |claimed=yes to the {{Media by uploader}} or {{Presumed self}} tag(s) if present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

IF you have other uploads, please consider "claiming" them in a similar manner, You can find a list of files you have created here.

This will assist those reviewing the many many "free" images on commons that have not yet been transferred to Commons. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:44, 14 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Rex Barber (cartoonist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jigsaw (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:26, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
