Cosmetic changes with AutoEd

A few months ago, a sentence was added to the top of WP:AutoEd: "AutoEd should not be used to make edits that only remove whitespace, or that make no change in the actual appearance of the article." You probably missed that so I wanted to let you know. Many editors find it annoying to have their watchlists cluttered by edits that are not substantive. That is why I suggest you to switch from AutoEd/complete.js to AutoEd/wikichecker.js. No script is perfect, though, so you should always check the diff before saving the edit. Thank you —Dexxor (talk) 08:02, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

@Dexxor: Thanks for notifying me. Yeah, I was not aware of that specific sentence/concern. Per your suggestion, I may switch to the other preset. --Mann Mann (talk) 10:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarifications fella, about the YouTube links, I tried using the most reliable ones to cite, specially when they came form the official YouTube channel of WWE. But by now I will look up for different sources as you said, such as Wrestlewview or PWInsider. Greetings. TheBellaTwins1445 (talk) 17:38, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

@TheBellaTwins1445: No problem. Yeah, as I said you can find good sources on WP:PW/Sources; e.g. match results, storylines, incidents, wrestlers' careers and achievements, and other related content. Good luck! --Mann Mann (talk) 18:42, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Mann Mann,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 805 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 848 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

What a mess I made!

But hopefully it's fixed. I think I took a shortcut into a black hole. Doug Weller talk 14:42, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

@Doug Weller: Well, there is a serious issue. The whole history of the talk page is deleted (my edits and the others). Can you or another admin restore it? Is it possible to restore the revision history of the old talk page? --Mann Mann (talk) 16:56, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
Asked for help. Doug Weller talk 18:03, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
@Doug Weller: Talk page Revision history looks fine now, thanks. --Mann Mann (talk) 07:19, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
Good. I need to add the permalink. Doug Weller talk 08:16, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Mann Mann,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here.   Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13922 articles, as of 02:00, 1 December 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

Email

Are you available via email? I think I have found an intriguing similarity that you once commented on. Kansas Bear (talk) 00:30, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

@Kansas Bear: No, I don't use email for WP discussions, and I don't watch/patrol those articles anymore so I have no idea about them. You better contact admins about such evidences. You know I became tired of dealing with those topics and users. Submitting reports (ANI and SPI) became tiresome and frustrating for me (plus the results sometimes). Currently I work on another project and my activity is not as much as previous years. --Mann Mann (talk) 05:10, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
I completely understand Mann Mann. Stay safe. Kansas Bear (talk) 12:41, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
Cheers! --Mann Mann (talk) 01:04, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Category should NOT have been deleted

I don't see this Category:Professional wrestling jobbers could have had been deleted as it was closed as keep https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2020_July_24#Category:Professional_wrestling during a previous afd meaning is should have been KEPT! Did you not know that it was closed as keep? Also I created it as was not even let known that it was up for deletion. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:21, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

@Davidgoodheart: It was 2 years ago. This[1] is the recent one. The most recent consensus matters. Plus you should discuss your rationale here: Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2022 October 6. Or you can convince WP:PW members by discussing your concerns on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Professional wrestling. --Mann Mann (talk) 04:09, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

notability

Hello, Mann Mann. I want to explain my toughts about Perez. As other user told me on other article (kenny omega), notability is stablished by sources. We can't just take cagematch or TV reports and create an article. In that case, we just have to read cagematch and create huge articles. In that case, the source (cagematch) doesn't mention or highlight Perez first title match. Also, the project pointed that not every title match is notable. HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:01, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

@HHH Pedrigree: Hi. I didn't mention the Cagematch link as a source/proof for notability. I wanted you to see that match was her first title match on an episode of NXT. In my opinion, a televised first title shot is a key point of a wrestler career. I'm aware of Are all title matches notable because I opened and started that discussion. We talked about this stuff before if you remember (this is 2nd time that you removed her first title match from the article). You know, I myself remove non-notable or random title matches from the articles. --Mann Mann (talk) 14:48, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
As you said "in my opinion". Notability is stablished by sources and no source highlighted the fact that Perez had her first title match. I don't see a weekly title match that she lost as highlight for her career. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 18:24, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
That match is 50-50 for me. However, I don't want to open Pandora's box and WP:SYNTH. I will remove the related part. --Mann Mann (talk) 04:34, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
