editSorry about that, stubs won't be deleted if they're accidentally not marked as stubs, but there wasn't any context to "Named after Cornelius S. Hurlbut, Jr. (1906-2005)." What was named after him? A fruit? A building? A mineral? It fit Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. A good solution, I find, is to keep external links saved in your userpage or a subpage before the article is created, if you've found the links but don't have time at the moment to write the article. Anyway, the links were: http://www.webmineral.com/data/Hurlbutite.shtml Hurlbutite and http://www.gia.edu/gemsandgemology/620/24039/this_weeks_news_details.cfm C. S. Hurlbut. Re: Devanagari to IAST
editHi sorry but I don't know of any program that converts Devanagari into IAST. But I think User:Dbachmann may know of a program. He is an expert in the fields of Indology and historical linguistics. Regards, GizzaDiscuss © 11:20, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- Wow thanks, that was a fruitful suggestion. Dbachmann gave me an informative answer, then Shreevatsa noticed my query and provided a rather nice tool that he happened to have written. Ask and you shall receive, fast! :-) --Kai Carver (talk) 09:22, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

editHi, my first page was deleted for spam.
I am not trying to sell anything or enhance SEO just wanted to create a page.
Is it just a case of not having enough relevant citations for the page? I was having some difficulty citing properly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brp18 (talk • contribs) 12:51, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the help. I will try again, I see there is a draft page submission so I will try along this route with relevant links and hopefully 2nd time will be the charm. Brp18 (talk) 13:33, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Wikipedia Asian Month 2017: Invitation to Participate
editHello! Last year, you signed up to participate in Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) 2016 on the English Wikipedia. The event was an international success, with hundreds of editors creating thousands of articles on Asian topics across dozens of different language versions of Wikipedia.
I'd like to invite you to join us for Wikipedia Asian Month 2017, which once again lasts through the month of November. The goal is for users to create new articles on Asian-related content, each at least 3,000 bytes and 300 words in length. Editors who create at least four articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard!
Also be sure to check out the Wikipedia Asian Art Month affiliate event - creating articles on Asian art topics can get you a Metropolitan Museum of Art postcard!
If you're interested, please sign up here for the English Wikipedia. If you are interested in also working on other language editions of Wikipedia, please visit the meta page to see other participating projects. If you have any questions, please visit our talk page.
Thank you!

editRe: Questioning your revert of Twelve Apostles edit
editHello, that Age ref also says the rock formation that collapsed in 2009 was *not* one of the Twelve Apostles, which agrees with the archived version of the official site. It's fine as it is, unless we can find sources about reclassification or some such. Graham87 02:39, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- I dunno ... I think I'd prefer a better source that might tell us exactly what's going on with the numbers before changing them around any more. It's all a bit strange. Graham87 04:00, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

"Turkey" vs. "Türkiye"
editHi! I saw you used the name "Türkiye" as the name of the country generally known in English as "Turkey" in your recent edit.
Q: Why don't you use the name Türkiye, the correct name for this country?
A: Because the English-language Wikipedia has a WP:COMMONNAME policy. We use names for countries and places that are the names commonly used for them in English, regardless of what official organizations use. Technically, this kind of name is known as an exonym. For example, we use the name Germany, instead of the native endonym Deutschland.
If or when that general English-language usage changes (as has happened in the past with place names such as Mumbai and Beijing), the same WP:COMMONNAME policy implies that the English-language Wikipedia will necessarily also follow suit. So far, that hasn't happened.
This has been discussed many times, with the same result every time because of the common name policy. If you'd like to discuss this further, please take it up at Talk:Turkey. However, for the reasons given above, there is currently a moratorium on further requests for name changes to the Turkey article until 1 December 2023. — The Anome (talk) 10:59, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
