Snowfix

edit

This article was deleted under A7 for a non-notable podcast and the Articles for deletion/Snowfix page said to contact you here. The podcast in question actually receives over 60,000 downloads for some episodes and has an established fan base throughout the world. Obviously it is a very specialised topic so if someone is not into skiing or snowboarding they are very unlikely to have heard of it.

However, it is almost always featured on the iTunes UK (and in the winter seasons, iTunes US) sports pages for example, and is featured (and heavily advertised) on the TV station Extreme Sports Channel (available in Europe). It is also going to turn into a TV show for this station in the third season, something which very few podcasts have achieved.

So on the base of the A7 reason I would like to submit it for reconsideration. On the basis of why it was submitted again, another viewer had set up the original page without using the podcast info table, and with some obvious bias, so when that was deleted I created a new article (without using any of the previous content). The viewers have also been asked to help maintain the article to increase the amount of information contained and the validity of said information.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Many thanks

Send the "diffs" of the edits you want deleted to this e-mail address: oversight-l@lists.wikimedia.org . By all means, ask them to delete any edits that you want that contain your name. Ian, I am doing what you say, and you won't answer your talk page(even on weekends!). Mr. Steve has decided to post libel on his page yet again, after fair warning. I have emailed the user address, but they are slow to respond. He reverted the libel back to its original post in a few minutes after I cleaned it. I am not going to play his cat and mouse games...I'd appreciate somebody stepping in and blocking him so we don't have to deal with this yet again.

Tallmadge map

edit

Hey thanks for the inquiry. I originally took the census bureau map and used it as a base to make a better map of the county (like the one used for the Summit County cities and townships), so I do have a blank one and just made the one for Tallmadge (it took all of one minute!!). Feel free to insert it in the Tallmadge article where you see fit! --JonRidinger 03:33, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I did add it to my user page and also categorized it with the other maps I have added so far of Portage County. I also added a better map of the entire county with all cities and townships labeled on the Portage County, Ohio page. Thanks for all your work on Wikipedia too and I'll do my best to keep contributing! --JonRidinger 03:49, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Protection for the HR list

The one thing I really haven't dabbled with as an admin is protecting pages, so I think I'm the wrong person to ask. Barry Bonds is protected, but there are so many active players on that top 500 list I think it'd be too disruptive. Staxringold talkcontribs 04:31, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

can you explain why you have removed the section about Wikipedia Cleaner on this page, saying it's inoperable ?

--NicoV 09:10, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I understand, I fixed the link to the documentation. The English documentation was at first on the French Wikipedia and I moved it later on the English wikipedia. Basically, Wikipedia Cleaner is a disambiguation tool, much like CorHomo but with other features (for example the ability to fix all links to disambiguation pages in an article).

Re. NHE user request

It seems to me that you leave comments to outstanding account requests (perhaps only inbetween the Wikibreaks referred to...).

I do not have an account and can not log in. That is my only problem. Read my request and please have one of your good mood days (endorse my request!;-).

I am seriously writing this because I became frustrated when I realized that I WILL NOT be able to log in for DAYS! I so much want to do it NOW!

Cheers Nils

I did not reject your request to begin with. I'm only sparingly at the Request an account page, and I'm not really up to speed on all the minor details. Considering that it was Arknascar44 that rejected your request and not me, why not send a message to them? However, by the time you send a message to them, your account will be created, because your new account "should be created shortly." Sorry for the inconvenience! TfD discussion

I confess to feeling a little irked at the way you described the fixing of the misused {{*}} templates. I have no idea which pages were using the template incorrectly and certainly wasn't responsible for changing them pending the outcome of a vote. I recognize that you didn't directly accuse me of wrongdoing, but please be careful with your phrasing, as others might be drawn to the wrong conclusion. I know this is only a little thing, and I wish you, in any case, all the best. Q·L·1968 20:03, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Text format in NFL Draft series of lists

edit

You appear to have undone a number of my recent edits, one in particular in which your summary reads "rm small text to conform with other draft pages, pending (inevitable) discussion"

Normally I wouldn't even reply but it seems (inevitable) that I do. Might I ask how removal of the small text conforms with other draft pages? Of the entire series of NFL Draft pages 2001 - 2007 are the only pages that do not have the small text for such inter - trade notes and ref's. That equals 7/71 Further more none of them are entirely consistent. Some with ref's inside the parenthesis some out side and many were improperly spaced or just typed continuously as teamname(tradenote)ref. You rm'd those repairs as well. I'm sure a "featured Article" argument will be placed here.

Understandably not all articles in the series have such draft notes references or comments, but those that do prior to 2001 are in small text, which formats the table data for a more consistent look and generally helps it fit within the cell.

I have spent a great deal of time trying to assist in the expansion of draft data and a uniform look within the series, and I've not always agreed with changes (sortable tables why? discussion:no) but I live with it.

I now remember why I took a break from the project after the great Koaf fiasco, thank you and good day. Slysplace | talk 21:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE: Opinions, obviously everyone will have a differing opinion, What I prefer is irrelevant to the cause of en:wiki it is and remains a open source project. Three days ago I was ready to post what would verge on a personal attack regarding the RV Edits you made, today I wonder is it even relevant, it was your anti-static FA statement that kept this from being a blatant flame style message against admins. I've posted many suggestions, and comments in the parent discussion group for the NFL wiki project and must admit the only reply I've received are from those who mess up worse than I, or those who feel they are personally responsible for the FA Status of the article.
Back to the issue at hand, I have probably an odd advantage over most wiki users and readers in that I have a Dual Monitor setup at 1680 x 1050, I have played with the resolution and even at the higher #'s I do not personally see a difference in readability. However: (superscript) vs superscript I must agree your suggestion is cleaner and easier to read and would be easy to implement. (Parenthesis) or not the change in text clearly shows it's reference information.
Lastly regarding a straw poll, Opinion (IMHO) is irrelevant in deciding consensus without discussion and debate. And I think there is even a WP policy against it (but cant quote it specifically) polls are easily padded and inherently harder to verify Slysplace | talk 22:28, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've gone ahead and converted 2000 NFL Draft from the aforementioned style to your proposed (style). Yes without concensus or discussion however a lot of work has been done lately to bring 2000 up to the 2001 standard so it seems like a good place to start. Slysplace | talk 23:41, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
RE: Cut and paste, I use a program called ultra Edit, it has a great search and replace feature, and memory of its use. I can paste in 20 articles, and replace the same thing in all of them at once. If I find another I can easily do it all over again. Slysplace | talk 02:09, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I started cleanup of 2003 and I notice it parses horribly, Has something to do with the REF's in round one, I'm not very good an linking ref's so I thought I would mention it as it appears you had started the ref cleanup. In it's current condition the ref's in round one pull all of the refrences into round one from the bottom of the page, and the Top TOC does not show rounds 2+ until later in a seperate TOC. Tallmadge

edit

Hi,

I just realized there is no stress marked for Tallmadge. (Sorry, I just edited 400 articles like this, so I missed some things.) This only works if it's TAL-muj; if it's tal-MIJ, please correct me.

ɨ is used for the high reduced vowel in English. It's a bit like ɪ, but without stress; the difference is parallel to the difference between ʌ in bus and ə in sofa. Compare the two vowels in business ˈbɪznɨs: For some people they're practically the same, but for others there's a notable difference.

BTW, the IPA link now takes you to a much simpler pronunciation key. I just put that up today, so please let me know if it works for you. kwami 01:59, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I was curious: do you know why the IPA in your current revision displays as several different fonts? Nyttend 18:17, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

notice/request

edit

I am considering undeleting a page I deleted that you tagged as a copyvio, Graduated Random Presidential Primary System. See the conversation on my talk page at [3] (unfortunately it's a bit fragmented, there are several threads with the same header). It seems the site we thought the article was a copyvio of was actually copying from Wikipedia. Just giving you notice and the chance to stop me from doing something dumb if I'm somehow wrong here. No need to reply if this all makes your head hurt, I take responsibility here. --W.marsh 01:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

That does sound okay, I guess. I tend not to wander into copyvio territory, but I was reading the article because I was learning about presidential primary methods and I thought it sounded like someone else's work. I Googled it, and found the web page that was an apparent copyvio. I tagged it, hoping someone would look over it and somewhat confirm if it was indeed a copyvio. I really don't care either way if it is deleted or kept. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 02:11, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wheel of Fortune configuration page

edit

Hi. In response to your earlier stated concerns, I added a note that the configuration graphic is based on observation of the show. There is no other available "source." The graphic page was spun off from a space-consuming list on the original Wheel of Fortune page; no objections were raised to the sourcing there. Would crediting the show with appropriate copyright information on the page address your concerns? If not, there's no way to comply with the request for additional sourcing, so as the author of the page, I'll delete it myself. (I don't think writing down a list based on watching a TV show qualifies as "original research," but if that's the policy, I'll be happy to comply with it.) Thanks. Hi IanManka, I noticed that you opposed my arbitration candidacy on the basis that my userpage said that I wasn't as active as I used to be. This is true to an extent, as I used to be very active, but my userpage is a bit outdated - I've been around pretty much every day in recent months, enough to keep up with my pretty large watchlist and the goings-on on the arbitration email list. I'm also likely to be around even more from now on, as I just got the internet back on at home for the first time in two years this week. Rebecca (talk) 07:17, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, articles should not be moved without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Duel

edit

Thanks also to you for constructive edits. What is the point of the "presenter" infobox tag? I don't know what a "presenter" is in terms of a TV show - I guess a host could fall under that, but it seems like the infoboxers used that term with something specific in mind (maybe like presenter in an award show sense? or a sportscasting sense?). Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune both list the host as "host" under starring (I think I put the chip girls on the starring list as well at one point but someone nixed em). I'd like to nix the co-exec credit too if you have no objection. It's unnotable and the "co-exec" title stretches the left side of the infobox a lot TheHYPO (talk) 03:56, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
