Your invitation to participate in a Wikimedia-approved survey in online behavior.

edit

Hello, my name is Michael Tsikerdekis[1][2], currently involved as a student in full time academic research at Masaryk University. I am writing to you to kindly invite you to participate in an online survey about interface and online collaboration on Wikipedia. The survey has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Foundation Research Committee.

I am contacting you because you were randomly selected from a list of active editors. The survey should take about 7 to 10 minutes to complete, and it is very straightforward.

Wikipedia is an open project by nature. Let’s create new knowledge for everyone! :-)

To take part in the survey please follow the link: tsikerdekis.wuwcorp.com/pr/survey/?user=39149539 (HTTPS).

Best Regards, --Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 11:58, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

PS: The results from the research will become available online for everyone and will be published in an open access journal. As a thank you for your efforts and participation in Wikipedia Research you will receive a Research Participation Barnstar after the end of the study.

Hello. I only edited that direct quote because of what Meredith said, word for word, in the YouTube video in which she explains the discontinuation of Phone-a-Friend. You do realize that it is improper grammar to begin a sentence with “and”, do you not? BDE1982 (talk) 10:42, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Direct Quote

edit

I added a link to the YouTube video in which Meredith explains the discontinuation of Phone-a-Friend. I listened to her direct quote, word for word. Whoever made that original reference in that article did not use each and every word that Meredith used when she made her explanation. You don’t believe me? Click the YouTube link and watch the video for yourself. BDE1982 (talk) 11:12, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes. That is what I am telling you. That quote was originally presented inaccurately. I go by what Meredith said in the video; what she said differed from what was originally presented in the article. BDE1982 (talk) 11:17, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

FYI, ex officio is the correct term to use to describe why the VP is President of the Senate. It means that VP is the President of the Senate because of (ex) the office (officio) held, in the same way that the President of the Republic of France is prince of Andorra. See wikt:ex officio. JOBTITLES

edit

Hello. How do you reconcile this reasoning with MOS:JOBTITLES? Or do you? ―Mandruss  02:15, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

The article is about the office, not the job title. "Vice President of the United States" is a proper noun and is therefore capitalized. The MOS example of when it's capitalized is "Richard Nixon was President of the United States." JTRH (talk) 02:21, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
No, JOBTITLES says to uncapitalize when preceded by a modifier, including a definite article. The English language has only one definite article, "the". The closest example is "Richard Nixon was the president of the United States." Thus, the two MOS-compliant options were to remove the "The" or decap Vice President, and I went with the former to maintain the match with the article title. ―Mandruss  02:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
