Curling edit consistency

edit

If you are going to remove national curling championships, look at all the Canadian curlers' pages. Mixed trials are listed, as are the Scotties, the Brier -- all national Canadian championships. If they are there, the Swedish ones should be there. Mosjöberg (talk) 17:09, 13 February 2021 (UTC)MoSjobergReply

@Mosjöberg: Medal winners at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship should not have their medals listed in the infobox. If there are any, they should be removed. Any men's or women's national championships are fine. Mixed doubles trials (Olympic qualifying) is allowed too. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:13, 13 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The national mixed doubles championships should be allowed then, because they are effectively the "Olympic trials" for countries like Sweden in many cases as they weigh in that decision to be allowed to go. And the rule/policy is still unclear - There is a World Mixed Curling Championship now – since 2015 – not sure why the mixed should be out but mixed doubles trials should be in. Mosjöberg (talk) 17:19, 13 February 2021 (UTC) Mosjöberg (talk)Reply

@Mosjöberg: I'm not sure if mixed doubles should be in. None of the Canadian mixed doubles winners have their medals listed (only Olympic Trials, not nationals). Mixed team curling is not an Olympic discipline, and therefore winning a national title is not notable enough to be in the infobox. Anyway, if you disagree, you can bring it up at WP:CURLING. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:41, 13 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I guess I'll have to – a national championship outside of Canada and the US serves the same purpose of an Olympic trial. Canadians can't get preference in this. There is no reason to give an "Olympic trial" preference over national championship - to have Gushue's and Koe's "trial" medals in but not a national championship that serves the same purpose. And I'm not sure the Olympics are the measure of what's in and out. Curling is defined foremost by World Championships.

I'm leaving the Mixed out and Mixed Doubles in, but if the national Mixed Doubles Curling Championships from non-Canadian teams are removed, all the Canadian Olympic trial championships should be out. Otherwise, it reeks of Canadian favoritism. Mosjöberg (talk) 18:08, 13 February 2021 (UTC)MoSjobergReply

@Mosjöberg: I'm fine with keeping in the Swedish Mixed Doubles championships, especially if as you say they are an Olympic qualifier. Though, I was under the assumption Peja Lindholm just picked the team! ;-) Anyway, I'll see if there is any consensus in the community as to whether we should be adding Mixed Doubles national medals to the infobox. -- Earl Andrew - talk 18:14, 13 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Earl. Peja is in China now - it's Alison Kreviazuk for mixed doubles in charge! But more seriously, this year, in Sweden, Mixed Doubles we had five tight teams - three winning tour events - in contention to get to Worlds and secure the Olympic spot for Team Sweden. So Alison said everything was taken into consideration, but the Swedish Curling Championship put de Val/Eriksson in the clear lead (if Worlds happen). And the Europeans have very different ideas of what's important when things are even sometimes among teams in small curling communities. For years when European teams rarely won medals they would have no merits by the Wikipedia standard if not for their national championships. It's what distinguishes them from other curlers who receive no such merits. There must be some way to mark it - at least to me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mosjöberg (talkcontribs) 20:35, 13 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

World Curling Federation Map Edit Request

edit

Hey Earl Andrew, can you update the map of the World Curling Federation to include Bolivia, Turkmenistan and Kenya, I tried doing it but was unsuccessful and I saw you were the last one to update the map, so you must know how. Thank you! Edwyth (talk) 23:44, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I've figured it out. -- Earl Andrew - talk 23:55, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Glenn Howard

edit

Hi Earl Andrew, I tried to rewrite the lead sentence per MOS to include nationality, occupation, and reason for notability. I removed where he is from only from the lead sentence. Is where he is from a reason for his notability? I also started a talk page discussion. Thank you, --Malerooster (talk) 16:36, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Malerooster: If you're going to remove where someone is from from the lede, make sure you add it somewhere else in the article if it is not already there. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:13, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I will try to do that. I didn't remove any where it was the only mention I believe. Also, not a big deal, but it is lead, not lede, which is something different, unless this is a spelling European spelling variation perhaps? I see this alot, but lede usually refers to newspaper leads which is different from ours. Anyways, cheers. --Malerooster (talk) 17:48, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Malerooster: Hello, thank you. You actually did do this with the Glenn Howard article (which is why I removed your edit in the first place), and also today at Margaretha Sigfridsson. Anyway thanks for the correction (and as long as we're correcting spelling, "a lot" is two words, not one :-p) -- Earl Andrew - talk 18:06, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK, sounds good and touche on the spelling ;) --Malerooster (talk) 12:22, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Canada and 2022 Qualification

edit

Hey! I was looking through some old years and I feel that someone has to be 6th place in the tournament. Looking at this year: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/2019_World_Men%27s_Curling_Championship#Final_standings they used USA and Scotland's round robin rank to determine who was 6th place. So it is in my mind that Canada would be in 6th place for both the Men's and Women's tournament for 2021. Thank you for all you do on wikipedia! And looking that the Olympics intended to give 9 points for 5th and 8 points for 6th. There must be some way to determine which team is which. Edwyth (talk) 21:17, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

You were right. I looked at the officially curling results and they list Denmark and Canada and Canada as USA as both 5th place. That's weird. http://results.worldcurling.org/Championship/Details/678 http://results.worldcurling.org/Championship/Details/676 Edwyth (talk) 21:57, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Edwyth: I think it's because Canada beat the US in the men's and Denmark in the women's, so the WCF decided to make them both 5th, but that might be just a guess. -- Earl Andrew - talk 00:47, 22 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
That's a decent theory. Maybe there would've been a 5v6 game if there were some implications of the difference, but since there isn't guess it didn't matter Edwyth (talk) 06:13, 22 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

2021 World Men's Curling Championship

edit

Hello, Earl Andrew. I am Forever elementary student and I want to discuss you with the edit made by you on Japan's team representative. I made a edit on Japan's team representative as Consadole Sapporo CC, Kitami because they participated in this tournament. The team won the 2021 Japanese Curling Championship and qualified to the 2021 World Championship. The team Tokoro CC you edited is a team located in Tokoro, but it is a women's team right now. Tokoro CC is an active and compete under Loco Solare. If you have different opinion about this edit, please leave me a message on my talk page. --Forever elementary student (talk) 22:28, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response. If the association has decided to use location for its name, I agree with it. But, I think the link from Tokoro CC should be Consadole Sapporo, which means the link should be written as [[Consadole Sapporo|Tokoro CC]]. Do you think this is correct?

By the way, I have a question regarding to the way to determine the Canadian curling team in 2022 Olympics. In 2021 Championship, Saville Community SC has participated and I want to know is that why this team cannot qualified for 2022 Olympics or why Canada need to play another tournament to determine new team who will participate in 2022 Olympics. I am not as familiar as you for curling in Canada. I am waiting for your answer. --Forever elementary student (talk) 23:12, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
