Gaelic translations

edit

Please don't add these translations to articles on New Zealand places. Scottish Gaelic is not an official language of New Zealand, nor a commonly used one in that country. If there are articles on the same places in the Scottish Wikipedia, add interwiki links instead.-gadfium 23:03, 19 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

It is important for these particular articles, as the names of these places are an anglicisation of the original Gaelic name. If you feel that rather it should be mentioned elsewhere in the article then you are welcome to change that. In the case of Seumas MacCoinneach/James Mckenzie; as he only spoke Gaelic, his actual name here is important.

It may well be appropriate to mention the origins of the names in the articles, but this should include references and be in the body of the article, not immediately following the article title.-gadfium 08:44, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Note:I have asked about this matter at Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board#Scottish Gaelic. You are welcome to contribute there.-gadfium 08:45, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Pe Icon.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Pe Icon.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Speedy deletion nomination of Albatron Technology

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Albatron Technology requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. GSK 05:28, 30 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

December 2013

edit

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Albatron Technology. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Your comments were not appreciated. GSK 09:00, 30 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The article already had penalty of notoriety before I edited it. You may not have appreciated my comments, but they were warranted. I am not going to waste my time contesting poor moderation by someone who does even understand the topic of the article. (talk)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Albatron Logo.svg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Albatron Logo.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. GSK 09:03, 30 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Lian Li PC-A17.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Lian Li PC-A17.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 05:07, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Haiku PoorMan.png

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Haiku PoorMan.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

That template does not mean that it needs updating, rather that it suffering from Recentism WP:RECENT Dlpkbr (talk) 10:49, 20 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Neither of these two articles suffer from "recentism" as the New Syrian Army article covers the NSA from Nov. 2015 to Jun. 2016 equally. Editor abcdef (talk) 02:40, 21 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
They certainly do suffer from Recentism. Have you even read that guide? As you seemed to think I was saying the articles were outdated at first. To clarify: "Recentism is writing or editing without a long-term, historical view, thereby inflating the importance of a topic that has received recent public attention" which means that long term it might not meet "the general notability guideline to merit its own stand-alone article". The 'Victory Brigades' article barely has enough current notability to warrant an article as it is, let alone in five to ten years time. Even the 'New Syrian Army' article has dubious notability and might be better merged into a subsection of the 'Authenticity and Development Front' article. Cite template versus reliable source

Regarding your revert on List of Nintendo Switch games. Replacing an unreliable source with a reliable source, even if the editor didn't complete the cite template, is definitely the valid course of action. Cite templates are to prevent linkrot. Reliable sourcing is a core wikipedia principal. -- ferret (talk) 00:58, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I came here to say the exact same thing. It's much more important that a source is reliable than whether or not the optional "cite web" formatting style is used. Sergecross73 msg me 01:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
