Tow Trucker talk 09:31, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
- it was like two or three years ago and it was a military article about a recipient of a navy cross or air force cross but i think the article has been deleted now. but before the article was deleted at that time there was no discussion on deleting it but it has been now as far as i know. but anyway, im getting off track. i edited and the article (wasnt logged in and didnt have an account back then) and added 1 line and added a source about the fighting from some website i cant remember. came back 10 minutes later and it was already removed and when i hit "history" it simply said it was reverted and didnt give a reason why. i was pretty irked. as i've kept up with random bits and pieces of wiki stuff throughout the years i now know that there's a notability policy or something for military award recipients no matter how good the actual page is. another thing is the expansive bureaucracy on here that makes things difficult, so many rules, policies etc etc. so it's because of those things and the elitist attitude of a lot of contributors here that i've chosen not to contribute full time here. instead i contribute to various wikia's for games and such. - It was a minor bot glitch, i assume it was because the operator put "Category User:Dainomite" instead of "Category:User:Dainomite" to remove in the program. link for reference — dainomite
Adoption
Hello Dainomite! Thank you for showing an interest in joining my adoption program! I'll be happy to adopt you because I enjoy working with others – especially to help them become a better editor on Wikipedia!
Take a look at my edit history; I usually work at Articles for Deletion, Articles for Creation, in new page patrolling, and in vandalism-fighting. I have been an editor on Wikipedia for a year, and have made over 15,000 edits to the encyclopedia.
I'm usually available on Wikipedia from 0:00 - 5:00 and occasionally from 12:00-16:00 (all times UTC). I travel frequently, usually on business trips around the world. I'm so young, yet so busy.
If I adopt you, I promise I will provide you with the most friendly, easy, and convenient adoption service through my adoption school. If you think I am the right adopter for you, we shall get started now! →Bmusician 14:52, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Welcome to Bmusician's adoption school!
Welcome!
You are now a student at my adoption school. Your official adoption page is located at User:Bmusician/Adoption/Dainomite.
In your first assignment (which I have already assigned to you) you will learn about the five pillars. Read the lesson carefully. After you're done reading the lesson, you will take a test about the lesson. You must answer all of the questions in the test adequately in order to move on to the next assignment.
After you've completed all required assignments, you will then take a final examination. If you pass the examination, you are permitted to either continue to study at the adoption school, or "graduate" from the school. (We'll talk about that when that time actually comes.) If you fail, however, you must stay at the adoption school until you finally pass an exam. Please note that you may leave the school at any time without graduating, but that means that you won't be awarded the "special barnstar" I give to my graduate students.
That's it; again I welcome you to my adoption school! Please leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions regarding the school. →Bmusician 02:39, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good, and off I go (off to read the lesson I mean xD). A few quick questions though if that's alright... When I'm done reading a lesson do I respond on your talk page, my adoption page or your adoption school page to tell you i'm ready for the quiz on that lesson? Are all the lessons on my adoption page and all the quizzes on the main adoption school page? Also along the same lines, if I have questions, comments, concerns etc about a lesson do I respond on that specific section on my adoption page? Also, is there an "I was adopted by Bmusician" userbox I can put up? I don't plan on having a ridiculous amount of them, just a half-dozen or so potentially(If I get crazy with it). Thanks again!— dainomite
- Sure, you can put {{Adoptee|Bmusician}} on your userpage. When you're done reading a lessona nd would like to take the quiz, you can respond on your adoption page or my talk page, and questions and concerns related to the lessons belong on the adoption page. Follow-up adoption questions
Dear Dainomite,
Thank you for completing your adoption assignment. Unfortunately, at least one of your answers to the questions have been found to be inadequate. As a result, additional questions have been given to you in which you must complete in order to move on to the next assignment. Please view the assignment on your adoption page and complete the follow-up questions as soon as you can, but remember to take your time. If you no longer wish to receive these notifications, please click here to turn them off.

I regret to tell you that I will no longer be active on Wikipedia, and due to that, I can no longer be your mentor. If you wish to continue to be under mentorship, please find someone else at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. Regards, →Bmusician 07:53, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- I have stated that I will not see any of Bmusician's adoptees go without. Since his adoption course was based upon mine, I am in a unique position to carry it on. If you would like me to do so, please do let me know. WormTT(talk) 12:43, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry about the incredibly late response Worm, I'm a bit hesitant because I don't want to waste your time if I'm not super active on WP like I am on a Wikia I contribute to. I might have a few questions from time to time, such as, how do I join Wikiprojects. Also, I want to take on an Article for creation for Safe Boats International, LLC and was wondering how I should get started because it looks very daunting being a first time contributor and even with WP:AfC and WP:YFA.— dainomite
- Don't worry about it. I'm happy to just be a target for your questions, especially if you don't mind them coming from other people on my talk page. I've got a lot of people who help out with good answers over there... you're welcome to join in the fun! Joining a wikiproject is really easy, you just choose the wikiproject and put your name in the members list! Then it's just a case of looking at their pages and seeing if there's anything you can do to help.
- Creating an article, I'd recommend starting in your userspace. User:Dainomite/Safe Boats International, LLC might not be a bad place to start! I always start by working out a vague structure based on a similar article (putting in the titles) then adding information and sources to each section. Just see what happens when you start writing!
- Finally, I'm afraid your signature is a bit of an issue. Per our policy on WP:SIG, it can't be transcluded. What's more, it should be under 256 chars, which yours isn't. You might want to do a bit of a re-design. WormTT(talk) 13:58, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I'm a new wikipedian and I would appreciate any feedback on how I'm doing with what will soon be my first article, User:Dainomite/SAFE Boats International LLC. I know i need to find more reliable sources somewhere but any tips, feedback etc would be appreciated. Thank you to whoever responds. daintalk 21:25, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Dainomite! I see you have some bare URLs (which can cause link rot), how about putting them into citation templates? An easy way to convert them is using Reflinks; to do that just click here and paste the name of your page into the field, then hit enter.
- Also, maybe you could provide more references, and add an infobox (such as
{{Infobox company}}
:) benzband (talk) 21:41, 9 August 2012 (UTC)- Hi there! Any other advice other than adding the infobox and making the raw url references into citation templates? I'm thinking {{Cite web}} for the cite template, or would there be a better one? Also, just in general try to find more sources for information I assume. When do you think I should add {{Submit}} to it? After I can add more content to it? daintalk 23:02, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed, you would need to find more sources for this to pass at AfC. And yes, you can still edit it while it's got {{submit}} on it. Other than that and the above, it's looking good! benzband (talk) 23:22, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

DGG ( talk ) 20:53, 18 August 2012 (UTC)- Thank you so much! huzzah! The first article I created was accepted the first go-around! :D Oh, how do I get my articles class assessed to see where it fits on the quality scale? thanks again. daintalk 23:33, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Although I accepted it, it needed some additional editing to remove over detailed and over promotional wording. I did some-- more is necessary, and I leave that to you. The exact price of contracts is not encyclopedic material, as long as the article gives needs the impression of it being a very substantial contract. Including the bureaucratic jargon for the various missions isn't encyclopedia either, not are the names of the executives beyond the CEO. We din't say "various sources" -- rather, we simply cite them. An d there is a real problem about the section which you had in the introduction, but I moved to "Earmarks" This material must have some additional sources and be worded very carefully. I didn't do this for you, because first you should get at least one additional source. Negative implications are something we are very careful about. You may want to use a short quote.
- That's my evaluation. People do here what they like, and I just concern myself with getting articles suitable for userspace. Anyone who wants to evaluate them can do so. You could ask a relevant wikiproject, but it would be better to improve the article before that. ` DGG ( talk ) 00:31, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, I gotcha, yeah I'm still getting used to the writing style, I've asked a few times on IRC in #wikipedia-en-help for how to write specific things like that Earmarks bit but people were more-or-less like "Just start writing" despite me saying I wasn't sure how to word/structure it because I don't normally write in that style if that makes sense. daintalk

Welcome to the Milhist project
Hello and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you are interested, or you can add it directly to your user page by copying the following: {{WPMILHIST Announcements}}.

- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, writing contests, and article logistics.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a set of guidelines that cover article structure and content, template use, categorization, and many other issues of interest.
- If you're looking for something to work on, there are many articles that need attention, as well as a number of review alerts.
- If you have an idea for improving the project, we have a strategy think tank that provides a dedicated forum for discussing it.

I was unaware you guys were so quick about getting to these things. It was quick and to the point, and bound to get his attention haha I literally went to change it back but you'd beaten me to the punch. FYI
Just letting you know I was trying to revert vandalism on the Jason Aldean article and noticed that there was more then what I had originally reverted. Unfortunately my computer is not cooperating and is very slow, thus I wasn't able to fix all the vandalism. Just letting you know I wasn't doing anything wrong. Thanks Zonafan39 (talk) 01:26, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- No problemo, yeah I saw you were reverted once but I just went to the contributor before the vandalism, Huggle should have sent the warning message to the IP who was vandalizing, not sure why it sent you one unless it's just because you were the last editor. No worries though. daintalk 01:31, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi
Hi, I saw you got a little bit of a rough welcome when you tried to chip in at William the Conqueror, I just wanted to say that if you need help with policies or stuff like that feel free to drop me a line. And then as a piece of advice, its generally good not to experiment with Featured Articles or other reviewed content unless you are absolutely sure everyone will consider your change to be helpful - people have spent a lot of time and efforts making sure they are of the highest quality. A good rule of thumb is: if in doubt make a suggestion on the talkpage first. On the bright sight there is a lot of non-featured low quality content where pretty much any change will be considered an improvement. I tend to focus on those myself. Happy editing, and I hope you haven't been discouraged by the bit of defensive postures you've been met with. Looking forward to seeing your name pop up in my watchlist.·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 01:02, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there. Thanks for the advice and offering of help, if I have any questions I'll be sure to ask. Eh, I dont think I should have editted the article, I feel bad now :/ daintalk 01:22, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- No need to feel bad. The good thing about wiki is that most any edit can be fixed with no harm done (except sometime to someone's ego).·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 01:25, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Don't feel bad, just learn from the experience. I've been here forever, but I know I'm not 1/4 the author as some of these FA guys, so I still tread lightly or just use the talk page. Most of them are exceptional editors but can be temperamental about articles that are already at FA status. Don't take it personal. I have really thick skin, so I've managed to learn a lot from them and just blow off the commentary. They don't mean it personal, it is just their way. I will dare to say that many of our best authors are not the best at communicating with others. Those are different skills. Ignore the bluntness, but take the lesson to heart and it will make you a better editor/author, here and in the real world. Maunus has given you good advice and offered to help, take him up on the offer, stick around, find a niche and have fun. Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 01:32, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the words of wisdom Dennis. I have indeed learned many valuable lessons from that incident such as collaborate/discuss more changes rather than adding to an article (especially GA/FA articles). It will take me a tad to get the grasp of some of the references stuff. For example, I had no idea that one of the references I used was from a self-published book. Sorry for the late response, I was on vacation. daintalk 16:07, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Regarding the 'Mods' section in Crusader Kings 2
I noticed you reversed its removal before and that you're actively editing the article despite the fact it's not in accordance with WP:REL and only acts as self-promotion towards the makers of the mod. To illustrate this with an example, the GTA San Andreas article does not mention MTA or San Andreas Multiplayer, despite their popularity and gigantic playerbase(Something that the Game of Thrones mod does not share, might I add). I'd appreciate if you could comment on the section I made in its talk page to further clarify your stance. --IdanElh (talk) 12:31, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

...let me know if you ever need help. Dennis Brown, WormTT, et all are dangerous folk :). I'm also waiting for The Winds of Winter to come out.--v/r - TP 23:16, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Will do, I appreciate the offer TP. Regarding ASOIAF, I am eagerly awaiting TWoW too, I really hope he doesn't take a long while to put out the Winds of Winter but if it would ensure it to be amazing then I would be okay with it. Out of curiosity how did you stumble across my user page? Was it a file that's used on one of my subpages? That's generally how I stumble across other user pages. daintalk 16:14, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Funny story - I got an email the other day from another SSgt that you actually replaced in the AEG. He had a question about the article and whether some content should be included or not. He figured since I am also AF and a Wikipedia administrator, that I could give him some insight. I told him that whether Wikipedia includes it or not is up to Wikipedia and we can't go around removing things that the Air Force doesn't like. On the other hand, we shouldn't be adding things that are sensitive per OPSEC. When I looked at the article, I saw a photo that had some of the information. I clicked it, and saw that it was also linked on your service record. Followed it there. I emailed the guy to ask if he knew you, and he said your rotation must've replaced his. Anyway, that's how I found you. The funny part is that I am often involved with some of the editors above, so I'm surprised I hadn't seen you earlier.
- I got into ASOIAF a couple weeks before A Dance with Dragons came out, so by the time I caught up, ADWD had just released. So I haven't had to wait on this author before. I am used to waiting for good ones though, I had to wait 3 years for The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind. But 5 years is a long time and seems the norm for this author. Looking forward to it though. The only part of the series I was disappointed about was the red wedding, but I've come to admire the author for having the balls to pull a stunt like that.--v/r - TP 00:13, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hah, that's pretty funny. I thought about adding a picture or two to the Eskan Village / 64 AEG pages. Also, I noticed that the average user can't rename files and I was wondering if you could rename File:64AEG 1010.JPG to File:64AEG 2010.jpg (or any title you think fits better). Maybe it's just my OCD but it drives me nuts that the "jpg" is in all caps and 1010 is so close to 2010 which would be correct as far as the date goes. I hated the red wedding too, I was so pissed when that happened. That's one of the few times reading a book has caused me to get angry while reading haha. I like that GRRM is willing to kill off main characters but the Starks/Winterfell go through such hell. I don't think another family goes through that much misery in the novels with their family being killed off, crippled etc. I think it's sort of funny that the people I like in the story are all minor characters, such as Arthur Dayne and Randyll Tarly. By the way, Terry Goodkind is an amazing author, i've only read the Sword of Truth series though. daintalk 17:38, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- The Omen Machine picks up where Confessor left off. I think GRRM is purposely tearing the Starks apart because they are going to win in the end. It'll be one of those "no matter what they've been through" sort of deals. I can't move that image because it's actually not on the English Wikipedia. It's located over at Commons.--v/r - TP 17:54, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Ohhhh I see why I hadn't heard of it, it came out after I enlisted. Since enlisting my recreational reading has plummeted unfortunately. That would be crazy if they did "win" somehow. They'd have to rebuild winterfell and all that but I hope you're right. Random question, do you think that Jon Snow is Rhaegar and Lyanna's child? Ah damn, I always forget that commons is separate. shucks. daintalk 15:28, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think so. I thought the guy who got himself burned alive was the son. I forget his name, but he approach Deaneryes (sp?) as her brother and all that.--v/r - TP 15:53, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- Ahh, gotcha. The Lyanna + Rhaegar is my favorite "theory" for who Jon's parents are. daintalk 16:28, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- GRRM did go through a lot of trouble in demonstrating a ton of integrity and honor in Ned, so maybe.--v/r - TP 16:56, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the main reason why I have a hard time accepting that Ned would cheat on Catelyn. And if Lyanna made Ned swear to keep quiet before she died in the tower of joy then Ned has the integrity and honor to keep that promise. Arg! I wonder when GRRM will reveal who his parents are if ever, the only survivor left who was at the tower of joy with Ned is Howland Reed so maybe he will be the one to divulge that info.— dain- talk 17:27, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

- I'd be the "other SSgt" that TParis is refering to I worked the armory and handed out weapons cards to you guys when you got there :) I saw you added the group photo and it linked to your service record. I honestly didn't think any other cops edited Wikipedia. Since you were at EVAB, I was wondering if you had any pictures of the villas that could be uploaded? I tried going through my collection, but I don't have any good ones; I've mainly got my flight goofing off at the pool or going downtown. Ishdarian 17:56, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, what a small world, crazy. Yeah... I got bored one day and made my "service record" with random asinine info on it haha. I always figured some cops were around because the Security Forces article is ridiculous lol. I probably do have some pictures of villas, I need to check. I have some pictures of the Schwartzkopf building too I'm pretty sure, good ole PDPs. Have you given any thought to expanding Eskan Village or 64 AEG? — dain- talk 20:55, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

- Hey, what a small world, crazy. Yeah... I got bored one day and made my "service record" with random asinine info on it haha. I always figured some cops were around because the Security Forces article is ridiculous lol. I probably do have some pictures of villas, I need to check.
Re: Task Force
I'm not entirely sure, I've never started one myself. From what I've gathered in my time here, it seems like only the largest scope WikiProjects do okay; it seems like a lot of the smaller WikiProjects and Task Forces tend to run out of steam relatively quickly. So I've never bothered to try to make one myself.
You could probably just ask if there is interest at the talk page at WikiProject Video Games. If they think it's plausible, they'll help or point you in the right direction, and if they don't, then you can still use WP:VG as an area to pose questions or ask for help on working it. I frequently ask and answer questions there myself, usually it's helpful. Sergecross73 msg me 15:03, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I wanted to see if you put that Userbox that I put on DB's talk up and you did! I see you are a member of Project Userbox...I didn't even know there was such a thing! RfA: thank you for your support
Dainomite, I wanted to thank you for your support during my RfA, as so creatively expressed! Regards, Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:01, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

- Not yet, if ever. The RfA cratered on the final two days in the face of some fairly determined opposition. Before I would consider doing it again, I have some things to think about. I'm trying to treat the whole affair as a learning experience for my future editing. Maybe with a little luck, we'll have occasion to work on an article or two of mutual interest in the near future. There are, afterall, plenty of articles that still need to be fixed. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:35, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Mark A. Clark (general)
On 3 March 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Mark A. Clark (general), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the commander of Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, MajGen Mark A. Clark, first got involved in special operations through an officer exchange program with the U.S. Air Force? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mark A. Clark (general). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

- Oh, yeah. I was going to ask whether or not there's anything in the MOS regarding image sizes in infoboxes or using thumbnails. I couldn't find it but I'm sure it's due to operator error on my part Thanks for getting in touch with me too, my internet crapped out and I disconnected from IRC =/.— -dainomite 18:13, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- Without you bring too specific, I can suggest that the image size for an infobox should be between 150px to 200px, see what fits each image best. Most infobox templates have an image parameter so you shouldn't need to put thumbnails in. Is that what you needed, if not please ask. Rcsprinter (gas) @ 22:27, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I apologize, I meant it in the context of I stumbled across some other guy (who ended up getting blocked) who was editting tons of articles changing the infobox pictures to 450px thumbnails of the picture that was already present. It was super odd. So I was refreshing his contribs page every 10 minutes and undoing all of it and left him a few talk page messages so I was hoping to include how that is against the MOS if it indeed was against it. But yeah, he ended up getting blocked before it got to that point. — -dainomite 05:35, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Userbox
While visiting your pages in connection with our discussion about USAF SOF units, I see by your user page that you mess around with userboxes. I occasionally post semihemidemibarnstar for little things editors do that I find pleasing. I'm not sure anyone else would find it useful, but I wonder if it could be converted to a userbox. Sadly, my computer skills approach 0 as a limit --Lineagegeek (talk) 23:25, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
- I sure can do that for you. Would you like this in the image box, File:Hemidemisemiquaver.png? Also, what would you like it to say in the body of the userbox? Any particular color scheme you would like me to use? Do you want me to put any parameters in the userbox? — -dainomite 06:23, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- I like the idea of including the musical note graphic in the box (provided the teeny star is the predominant image. I let my wife decorate, so I have little experience with selecting colors. I am realy a content person, not a computer person, so I would be lost in discussing parameters, but I would not restrict its use by anyone who wanted to. I use it when someone does something minor but I liked it. (just not important enough to award one of those big stars).--Lineagegeek (talk) 23:33, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

720th Special Tactics Group
I played around with this a little, expanding and formatting in the "new" Lineage section mostly. I doubt the 720th Ops Spt Sq will ever merit its own article, and IIRC the 10th Wx Sq may have had an article deleted in the past for lack of notability. When they were where I was editing, I snuck in some style items, so watch out if you have other preferences --Lineagegeek (talk) 21:03, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Looks good! Thank you. I just added a picture and a little bit more regarding OCONUS/ANG units as well. I wish I could find some stuff to be able to add in a history section, arg! I wish AFHRA had factsheets for the 22nd and 22rd STS's so we could find out when they were assigned to the 720th, it irks me a bit that I can't find anything heh. Anywho, do you think we could make a DYK out of something on the page once we move it out to the mainspace? Thanks again, — -dainomite 22:37, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- My info on the 23d has a gap that I don't know whether it was caused by a brief period of inactivation or not. It was assigned directly to 23d AF as late as 1 Oct 1987 as the 1723d Combat Control Squadron. It was part of the 1720th by 1 July 1989 as the 1723d Special Tactics Squadron (it was consolidated with a WW II unit, the 23d Fighter Control Squadron in May 1992 and the consolidated unit was designated the 23d Special Tactics Squadron). Same thing happened with the 24th. I have less info on the 22d, knowing that it was assigned to the group and was at McChord by 1996.
And I don't mind tb. Wish I knew about it last year, when I discovered belatedly that I had an extensive conversation with myself. --Lineagegeek (talk) 23:27, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ugh, yeah I wish all the Special Tactics Squadrons had AFHRA fact sheets, it would make things so much easier. It's highly irksome that some do and some don't. Hell, even force support squadrons have fact sheets! — -dainomite 05:26, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

I was pointed at you
by another editor (do we need to name names?) pointed me at you when I asked this question.
- I am working on an article about a guy who, in WW2 taught "recognition" classes in the military. What is a term that I can use that could be linked to a wikipedia article that could explain to the interested just what that would have meant? Or might still mean? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:49, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there Carptrash! Sorry for the late reply, I had a long day at work. Would you mind if I asked for a bit more context for the manner in which "recognition" is used in the sentence? Or a link to the article to get a feel for what the individual was doing? For instance, they could have been teaching recognition classes about enemy equipment, armor, uniforms or maybe identifying targets for aerial bombs, Targeting (warfare), imagery analysis, image analysis, intelligence gathering or a lot more depending on the context. I hope to help you solve this mystery good sir. Cheers, — -dainomite 02:38, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me with these suggestions. I have the reference in book at home, (pretty much all my postings are based on a book that I have at home) but I don't currently have a computer at home (See: Real life and its implications for wikipedians) so have to do this from work. Which is not always convienient either, but is possible. The book states that he taught "recognition" and that he was called to the carpet (or what ever they have in the military) for teaching art in his classes until it turned out that his students did much better at "recognition" than folks taught the other way, so his techniques were adopted by all. I imagined it was 'Which tank or airplane should you shoot at" sort of stuff, but since wikipedia is not really a repository for what crawls out of my imagination, I thought I'd ask around. You asked for a B-class review at WP:BIO for this. I think it is B-class, but as it is a milhist bio I'd suggest you ask for at WP:MILHIST review for a B-class review. They are very quick there - it will take only a day or two - and you may get extra feedback before a possible GAN consideration. My only concern is the list of orders, it looks not very pretty - maybe a table would be better? And most bios don't show pictures of awards, they just list them, so perhaps you'd be better of just redoing the section as a few sentences. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:17, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- I had totally forgotten that I requested that a few months ago. Thanks for the suggestions Piotrus. — -dainomite 16:42, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
- Also, when being told you had a question on the 24th, I looked at the table you made for the unit's decorations. I agree that the idea of a table is good, but perhaps a bit of tweaking is left to do before I steal the format.
- I've just been doing a bit of editing on the 91st Missile Wing page and it strikes me that things like the Mackay Trophy could fit in the table as well (if images are available it would be even better).
- However, in making the table, you have used the ribbons for the unit awards. Units don't get the ribbons (individuals do), they get streamers. Although I didn't do it for the 24th, I have created something similar to the display you changed (using the streamer) for other units while removing ribbons from infoboxes or elsewhere.
- The problem with streamers in a table like you created is that they lose their individual characteristics when reduced to to fit in the table. At least is needed to distinguish the colors. This could be fixed by expanding the left hand column in the table, though.
--Lineagegeek (talk) 19:34, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I liked the format of the table for organization and display purposes rather than the old format I was using. The only reason I chose the ribbons instead of the streamers is for conserve space. I'll probably change them to one of the two options below.
Option 1 |
|
Option 2 |
|
Option 3 |
|
- What do you think Lineagegeek? — -dainomite 21:02, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- I prefer the second option (enough to steal it and apply it) -- it uses less vertical space and the streamer is distinguishable (including the text). I haven't looked yet to see if some of the streamers with more complex color patterns lose resolution in this format, but if they do, there's the first option to fall back on. I doubt this has enough interest to bring up on the MILHIST talk page, but tomorrow, I may ping a couple of frequent editors of AF pages to comment here.--Lineagegeek (talk) 22:35, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- I added in a third option Lineagegeek, what do you think? I swapped the streamer and award columns around, just to see what it looks like compared to option 2. I also added a section row so we can see what multiples would look like. Yessir, I look forward to using this on AF unit articles from now on as well, it's quite aesthetically pleasing! We could also adapt it for campaign streamers at this point as well. If we do want to go this route I could try putting it into a nice template so it would conserve space and be easier for users to add rows, dates, streamers, etc. Also, ping away good sir! — -dainomite 22:42, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Alrighty, I was bored and created a template to be very user friendly as well as to conserve space on articles it would be used on. I only have Air Force unit streamers added right now for this demonstration. If we decide it's worth keeping over copying the straight table coding then I'll move it out to the template namespace and add in the rest of the streamers.

- That looks good I think! Do you want me to add an option into the template to choose either campaign table or awards table. Or would you rather me make a separate template for the campaign table? Do you want me to go ahead and move the template out from my userspace into the template namespace? — -dainomite 22:11, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- My vote would be for separate templates and template namespace. I have also added references to the group decoration table. Fits fine with the description of the action. --Lineagegeek (talk) 18:51, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- What happened? I went to the 454th wing page to steal the template for use with the 449th AEG and saw (as I see here) that the template is now displaying as a table without images.--Lineagegeek (talk) 12:55, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Wow, that was strange... It's fixed now. Sorry Lineagegeek. Is there a "list" of campaign streamers so I can add those to the campaign streamer template I'm making? I'll be adding the Army, Navy, Marine Corps unit streamers tonight hopefully. — -dainomite 17:50, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Have you included all in [[Category:United States campaign medals]]? Each of the medals should have an accompanying streamer.--Lineagegeek (talk) 18:48, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Oh excellent! That's a great place to start. Thanks Lineagegeek.
{{User:Dainomite/unit campaigns table
|campaign_image1=Vietnam Service
|campaign_name1=[[Vietnam Service Medal]]
|campaign_date1=dates here
|campaign_notes1=some notes here
}}
turns into
Campaign streamer | Campaign | Dates | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Vietnam Service Medal | dates here | some notes here |
I added all the streamers that were in that category. How does that look? — -dainomite 19:12, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
454th Bombardment Wing
I just undid your revision to the awards for the wing. I have never seen this before, but the wing (and some of its subordinate units) was awarded a single AFOUA for split dates per the reference. It was not two separate awards. The citation is probably for the wing's support of deployed B-52 operations and excludes the period the entire wing was back at Glasgow. --Lineagegeek (talk) 18:48, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- No worries, that was my assumption of why you reverted me before I read this message, haha. Same here, I havent ever heard of one unit award being issued for two separate periods of time; which was the reasoning behind my edit. Dainophone (talk) 23:49, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for splitting this page! It needed doing to fix the excess number of transclusions! - Ahunt (talk) 10:38, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Not a problem Ahunt! It definitely needed it! — -dainomite 10:45, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes it did! I don't know if the number of transclusions allowed was recently reduced, but I have already split another page in the same manner and there are several more userbox pages that need splitting still. - Ahunt (talk) 12:30, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hrmm, I may poke around and try to find them. I enjoy fiddling with stuff like that. Thanks for the heads up. — -dainomite 12:35, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Please do! I already split Wikipedia:Userboxes/Software to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Browsers and Wikipedia:Userboxes/Operating systems but there are more to do! - Ahunt (talk) 13:53, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Hokay, I went through the following sections on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Gallery. I didn't go through the top two though.
- Life, personal status and situation - 0 splits needed
- Media - 2 splits performed, 1 split needed
- Done Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books I split into Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books/Series
- Done Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Television I split into Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/US Television
- Not done Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Film, there's no easy way to split that page..... it's a ton of genres.
- Music - 2 splits performed, 1 splits needed
- Not done Wikipedia:Userboxes/Music, I'm not sure how to split it :(
- Done Wikipedia:Userboxes/Music/Albums, Split into Wikipedia:Userboxes/Music/Albums, A–K and Wikipedia:Userboxes/Music/Albums, L–Z
- Wikipedia-related - 0 splits needed
Hope this helped a bit :3 — -dainomite 23:56, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

I know you've been editing this article occasionally, and now I, some other editors, and a few SPAs and IPs have been edit warring over a few things. Could you please visit Talk:2013 Korean crisis#Stop edit warring - please come here to discuss!? Thanks for your time, Ansh666 03:48, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for notifying me of that discussion Ansh666. I gave my two cents. Cheers, — -dainomite 04:57, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
I just counted, we've reverted IP 23.17.101.129 (talk · contribs) 5 times directly and twice indirectly over the issue of China (and now the Phillipines) in the infobox, and throughout the process there has been no hint of an attempt at communication. Is there a need to take it further to another venue (and if so, where?), or should we just keep on reverting? Consensus from us "established" editors is to keep the other countries out - I've seen China, Russia, UK, Turkey (...?!), and the Phillipines, and maybe more. Ansh666 04:12, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply Ansh, I'm on vacation at the moment. I don't think there's anything to do about the IP editor since they edit it so infrequently, maybe if they did it more and in a quicker succession we could do something. Hopefully they will just stop on their own. Oh, just trying to get your opinion here but what are your thoughts about making a section about the wind-down/de-escalation of events and an example of content would be how NK is offering to hold talks and other stuff. I think if we don't do something like that then people will just keep adding more and more events which would make it seem like the crisis would be going on for longer than it has. I did see some news article yesterday that talked about how the "North Korean tensions were at it's height from X month to X month", but that was while I was reading the news on my phone so I couldn't bookmark it to save it for using it in the article. Just an idea though, take care! — -dainomite 22:11, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks, hope I you keep enjoying your vacation! I think that it's a good idea - someone's already split the June events off into a "Post-crisis" section, although I think it should probably start earlier. Maybe I'll go back and see where de-escalation starts being mentioned sometime and mark something there. Thanks again, Ansh666 22:33, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
French Croix de Guerre with Palm
I checked the images subpage for the unit awards template and get a blank. I'm editing a page for a unit that earned the French Croix de Guerre with Palm but I can't figure out the parameter for the streamer. Have you entered one yet? --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:05, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- I added it Lineagegeek, I'd never heard about that unit award before, sorry. Is there a category or some such for award streamers that I should look for? — -dainomite 22:16, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
The most common ones (pre Mideast engagements) are
- Gallantry Cross (Vietnam)
- Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation
- Korean Presidential Unit Citation
The French Croix de Guerre is rarer and I can only think of one unit off the top of my head that has the Belgian equivalent. What did you use for the parameter? I'm working on what will be moved to 622d Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:30, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- Croix de guerre WWII was one of the parameters for it, or Croix de guerre WWI for the WWI version. I'll make a legend for the template so everyone knows the parameters for the template. That would probably help. >.< — -dainomite 22:34, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
Flag of the United States Air Force#Unit Citations Hrmm, look at this find. I'll get to adding the other unit citations to the awards table. Leaving off the campaign streamers though since they will be part of the unit campaigns table that I'm still working on. — -dainomite 22:19, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- All of those unit citations on the page were added as well.— -dainomite 22:34, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
Nice work; thanks!
Thanks for the cleanup work you did on my Talk page; it looks great! That poor page suffers from a mountain of neglect. I don't know why you did it, but your random act of kindness is appreciated, and I hope you'll forgive me for breaking normal Talk page protocol and posting this here.
By the way, I looked at your cool collection of userboxes and realized that, while I'm probably twice as old as you, we have quite a few similar interests. I'm half or three quarters Irish, too, depending on which of my ancestors is telling the tale, so it was nice to hear from you. Take care! — UncleBubba ( T @ C ) 21:33, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- No worries, I mainly blame my random OCD with userpages haha. That, and I remember when I was completely new to the whole wiki markups thing and my userpage was terrible, once I got better I thought I would help other folks out if I saw something I could fix.
- Oh how interesting! Yeah my "Irish" comes from ancestors that came to the U.S. from County Antrim in the 1700's and actually went to Ireland from Scotland a few hundred years before that. Don't be a stranger, — -dainomite 22:39, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
deadmau5
Hey just an FYI. I saw your edits on the deadmau5 page. There is currently a discussion regarding his name on the talk page. We have requested a move of the article's title. Feel free to join. MidnightRequestLine (talk) 00:22, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah this is absolutely insane that the article isn't "deadmau5". — -dainomite 00:29, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Deadmaus
Do you realise that this is the subject of an ongoing debate? See the talk pages for Deadmaus and MOS:TM. The appeal to Google hits you've made in the edit summary has been made in these discussions, including the original RM that resulted in the move from Deadmau5 to Deadmaus. So, you're not pointing out something that hasn't already been pointed out many, many times, and has not swayed any of those in support of the original RM. The primary styling of the artist's name should match the style in the article title, with any significant alternative stylisations in parentheses alongside the explanation of pronunciation. If you think the quantity of Google hits is a decisive point, then make that point in the relevant discussion (though, as I say, it's been made ad nauseum), but it's not grounds for making an executive decision on the styling of the name in the lede, which should match the article title. Wetdogmeat (talk) 04:38, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- Are you going to respond to this? Please explain why you feel justified in making this executive decision that departs from: a) the standing consensus; and b) from the standard format at use in every other article on a musician who is better known by a stage name then their given name. Wetdogmeat (talk) 19:43, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- Actually consensus is pretty clearly in favor of Deadmau5. Count the votes if you want and see exactly how much the consensus favors Deadmau5. MidnightRequestLine (talk) 21:47, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- You don't understand what consensus means, but that's okay, because I wasn't talking to you. Wetdogmeat (talk) 22:01, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- I know, WP:NOTAVOTE, right? But with such a heated issue, with valid/almost valid arguments on both sides, that's what it has to come down to. Feeling feisty are we wetdogmeat? You're an angry little chap. Lighten up. MidnightRequestLine (talk) 22:07, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- No, that's not what it's come down to. That scenario only exists in your imagination. That's why you've resorted to forum-shopping. The RM has been closed and it won't be reopened for several months. When it's reopened, consensus may change. The standing consensus, however, is reflected in the fact that the article title is currently Deadmaus, and, per every comparable article on Wikipedia, the name as used in the article title should be given primary place in the lede. (& WP:NPA, blahblahblah.) Wetdogmeat (talk) 22:18, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- Stop crying personal attack when that was not at all a personal attack and you just said something just as, if not more, uncivil to me. And you know that there is currently an RM open right now, right? MidnightRequestLine (talk) 22:49, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- 1) WP:NPA doesn't regulate against impatience or curtness. It regulates against derogatory comments made against contributors, such as: "Feeling feisty are we wetdogmeat? You're an angry little chap. Lighten up." 2) You're contradicting yourself. Either consensus has been reached or it hasn't. Yeah, there's a dubious RM still open. If we assume that it's a legitimate RM that may actually result in a move so soon after the closure of the previous RM (which it won't), then it's still open, and therefore no consensus has been reached. If we assume (more realistically) that it's an illegitimate RM that won't result in another move because it was opened right on the heels of the closure of the first RM, then consensus has been reached, and that consensus is "Deadmaus". EITHER WAY, the article title is currently Deadmaus, and that should therefore be the primary style in the lede, per the rest of the encyclopedia. Wetdogmeat (talk) 00:26, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- You might want to take a short WP:WIKIBREAK or just a chill pill. I'm really trying to be nice to you. Lighten up. MidnightRequestLine (talk) 01:12, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ignoring the inconvenient points, as usual. Wetdogmeat (talk) 01:41, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- Okay. You can choose to ignore the obvious consensus on a bureaucratic technicality, but I am not not that cynical, and I thought maybe you would just give us all a break and stop using the rules to push your agenda. Sorry for being somewhat of an optimist and assuming you would make our lives easier because this page's title will inevitably be Deadmau5 sooner or later.MidnightRequestLine (talk) 02:09, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

TemplateData is here
Hey Dainomite
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.
Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:19, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
- Np Okeyes (WMF), I'll add it to any that I come across that aren't fully protected. Also, thank god the markup editor isn't going away. — -dainomite 17:15, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- Great! Actually, you can add it to protected templates, too - just bung it in the documentation. Anything transcluded into the template itself works as a location for TemplateData. Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 19:38, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oh how handy! — -dainomite 19:43, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi i've noticed that you've been undoing some of my edits on for example Category:North Germanic peoples. I'm just merging Category:West Germanic peoples and Category:North Germanic peoples with Category:Germanic peoples. Sorry of i was unclear. Have a nice day/night :) Krakkos (talk) 20:21, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- I didn't expect that it would be a controversial move. West Germanic and North Germanic are primarily linguistic terms. Therefore i thought it would be more suitable to merge Category:West Germanic peoples and Category:North Germanic peoples into Category:Germanic peoples. I'm sorry that i didn't specifiy this in beforehand. Would it be okay if completed the merge? Krakkos (talk) 20:31, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- I would oppose such a merger. Germanic - like West Germanic and North Germanic - is a linguistic classification, and we shouldn't use it to categorize ethnic groups and especially not national groups where the connection between language, culture and ethnicity is much more complicated.User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 20:42, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- I agree with Maunus in my opposition to your merger Krakkos. — -dainomite 03:10, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

I trust you're familiar with WP:3RR by this point. It looks like you and an IP are going back and forth about some text the IP has inserted into Joint Special Operations Command. Belated awards
I will use as an excuse my devotion to the June 2013 Military History cleanup campaign (but that only covers June). I have completed my project of expanding material on SAC Strategic Wings (except for Hound Dog/Quail missile comments), so it is entirely appropriate to stop beating around the bush and award:

Here is a semihemidemibarnstar for creating the unit awards template |
The unit awards template has really proved useful. I've even used it to replace my own previous edits.
I'll give you one for the campaign template when I figure out how to use it. Now how do I get rid of that leading box?;)--Lineagegeek (talk) 23:20, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, thank you very much Lineagegeek! Sorry I haven't been around much. RL is kicking my butt; I went on leave for three weeks for a road trip around the U.S. and then I moved when I got back from that. I'll try to finish off the campaign table whenever I get a day off. Something that might interest you
With participation in 2013 Korean crisis in mind, maybe 2013 North Korean cargo ship confrontation in Panama would interest you - it's a breaking news-type article in need of either expansion or reorganization (though my attempt to convert it into something like 2013 South Korea cyberattack was reverted), and I can't really find more to expand on. Maybe if you have experience in this sort of stuff you could help? (I'm definitely not pleading. Of course!) Thanks, Ansh666 02:13, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Heya Ansh, sorry for the late reply but I haven't had much time to be able to devote to actually contributing more than relatively minor edits or undoing vandalism. I removed the DPRK/Panama incident from the 2013 Korean crisis article because I don't see how the two are related other than both simply involving the DPRK. — -dainomite 20:07, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- On a side note, you scared me with that link on the bottom to User:Dainomite/r there...it was covering my signature! Ansh666 02:17, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- LOL, sorry, that was me being bored one day and just doing something fun for my talk page / user space pages. — -dainomite 20:07, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- No problem! It's come a long long way since I posted there (it was actually breaking news at the time, so not much information was available). Thanks for every little bit of editing you do Ansh666 03:39, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Edward Snowden
Why is lawyer statement allowed to stand and fact that Snowden is stuck in transit lounge from same article deleted?Patroit22 (talk) 19:33, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- @Patroit22: Hopefully this clears things up a bit. The article shouldn't read like "on july 5 he was in the russian airport" then later on "on july 18 he was still in the russian airport" and "on july 23 his lawyer said he was in the airport". It's unnecessary and I was trying to prevent it from becoming that. We have to keep in mind that this is an encyclopaedia and we should write from a historical and long-term viewpoint instead of overdocumenting and repeating minor facts. I'm sure whenever he actually leaves the airport it will be covered in the article and then we should have one statement of "he went from hong kong to a moscow airport" then later on "he left the moscow airport". What do you think? Cheers, — -dainomite 20:02, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for trying to explain. I think it clouds the case. Mr. Snowden appears to have no safe way to leave and he is at the mercy of Russian political system and intelligence operatives and selective editing of news articles distorts objective reporting of the facts .Patroit22 (talk) 01:20, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Chimena Diaz
In the Wikipedia the name Chimena is wrongfully spelled as Jimena, I have corrected this to a more correct European style of spelling.
--Dred05m (talk) 16:13, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Heya Dred05m, I can't say i've ever heard of a "chimena diaz", I have however heard her referred to as "Jimena" and "Ximena" quite a bit. A quick google search yields 6[1] results for "Chimena Diaz" and 88,000[2] for "Jimena Diaz". One thing that wouldn't be a terrible idea would be for her article to say "(also spelled Chimena)" and then add links to reliable sources that refer to her as "Chimena Diaz". — -dainomite 19:41, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

In this case, $1 is a software variable; go to the $1 disambiguation page and follow the link immediately above "See also". No clue why it displayed the variable instead of the time chunk that should have been displayed. Nyttend (talk) 02:14, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- @Nyttend: I found it especially interesting that PrimeHunter replicated the bug rather quickly. I wonder if it will be fixed or not. Thanks for the explanation as far as what $1 actually means though! Cheers, — -dainomite 02:20, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, parameters in MediaWiki messages are named differently from templates. The caller never names them and the message code calls them $1, $2, ..., where a template would have called them {{{1}}}, {{{2}}}, ... MediaWiki:Login-throttled was made for Special:UserLogin where it's called with the parameter "5 minutes" in English: {{int:Login-throttled|5 minutes}} renders as

- See mw:Help:Magic words#Localisation for the meaning of {{int:message name}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:34, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Can you place a CfD notification tag on the category page along with on the User Page of the category creator? Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 13:07, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- Doh, I must have forgotten to put it on the category itself, I'll do that now. I did notify the category creator however. Thanks for catching that Liz. Cheers, — -dainomite 03:11, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
- Done link — -dainomite 03:13, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking my suggestion in a positive way! I'm trying to have notifications become the default practice at CfD...right now, it's "encouraged". Liz Read! Talk! 00:46, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
