Just re-reading your User page and was curious about this edit; what happened? Where did it appear? –

Thanks for the explanation ... I don't know exactly why you got that, p'haps your IP address was allocated to another in the murky past. It is history now and we can forget it.
It is a requirement that you sign and date your posts on article Talk pages and User Talk pages only. The four tildes is the quickest way.
Please do call me GG-J and please keep editing. All the best –

Nice to meet you, ask questions here, I will watch. Do you know already how to watch pages? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:59, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nice to meet you too! :) What does the average Wikipedian do in a day???The Wikimon (talk) 16:05, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict, - we wrote at the same time) Wow, what a greeting! - Why you want to watch a page? Because you care about it and want to know what happens to it. Take my talk. Once you are there, click on the star (not the heart). When you want to know what happened to pages you watch, you click on "watchlist" (above the search function). You will be presented the recent changes to all pages you watch (you decide how many days back). If you notice a change you may want to know what that was, and perhaps improve. - You didn't do much so far, be bold. You don't have to say your name in every edit summary, the robots do that for you. - Read what others are doing. - Please, let's keep the discussion here, my page is a bit crowded. - For your reply, add another : for an indent.
There is no average Wikipedian, some edit three times a year, others hang on the computer day and night. Find your topics and address the people that appear frequently in the watchlist of those articles, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:10, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Done!! And Done!!! Your page is on my watch list and all changes made there are visible. Now I'm really addicted to Wikipedia, so expect to stay online day and night. Also, I won't add my name anymore and anything else?? I don't think so... Oh before I forget, now are there like leagues of editors??? Like ultra editor and stuff??? Btw great minds type alike and at the same time!!! ;) The Wikimon (talk) 16:15, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I added that : to your note,for indent. - Otherwise, on your own talk you can delete what you like, but on other talk pages, don't change the comments of others. I mentioned you on the page of an admin (administrator) whom I trust, Ched. Here's your sandbox, to play, click on the link, write, save. - All red links on Wikipedia wait for you to write missing articles, - start one in your sandbox, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:27, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Check it out!! By the way, if you don't mind- from how long have you been editing and how old were you when ou made your 1st edit??? Btw what's an Admin???
Again I added the leading : - next time you do it. If you don't know a word, try the search function. Administrators have more rights than others, can delete pages, for example, - The question about when I started is answered on my talk, the other I don't answer — but I give clues in my memories ;) - I love your sandbox ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:54, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Wait till I'm done with it!!! You and Ched and GG-J are all my Senseis... And I'm terribly sorry for the personal question.. The reasons was Im 18 and this is my 1st edit... I know HTML and Java Script and that's all fun, but this surpasses all the 'geeky' fun things I've done. I'm not a geek! Are all editors like you or do they have big egos??? You are an Administrator right??? See now I know how to make a link:-) The Wikimon (talk) 17:04, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
A few things: those personal remarks now in your sandbox should rather go to a user page, the sandbox is meant for coming and going stuff. I suggest you work on it until you like it, then save under a different name beginning with User:The Wikimon/ - you copy the name in the search function and click, then will be told that you can create a new article (shown red). - No problem with the question, - I recommend to not tell too much here about private identity. - All editors are different. If you go over my talk, you can see who left nice messages, click on their user name and find out. - No, I am not an admin, - or I would have offered my own service ;) - Do you see that my admin link takes you to another spot than yours? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:16, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
How did that happen? I mean, mine shows a disambiguation (spelling might be wrong) page, while yours took me straight to a page on Administrators... Ok I'll start correcting the Sandbox also.. The Wikimon (talk) 17:21, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
You look at the difference in edit mode and find how to code a piped link — one that shows text different from an article name ;) - You spelled very well! For pages with a dab (short for that long word), it's useful to pipe, in an article you may want to say just Requiem, not Requiem (Reger), for example, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Got it!!!! Now how do we create articles and what is the the preference for? I found that our emails can be linked to the account. Is it safe?The Wikimon (talk) 21:18, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sending the first is safe. Do not reply as a THREAD unless you are sure about the other party! –

Watchlist & E-mail

edit

Hello again, Wikimon.
Glad to see you settling in well. Thank you Gerda for giving so much help. You are a good friend to have.
I thought the video here explains why we use Watchlists very well—and she is a very charming German lady. Cheers! –
 – Gareth Griffith-Jones |The Welsh Buzzard| 21:44, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank You very much GG-J!! I think I can continue the thread cause I know her right? Also that video made perfect sense... Are there anymore like it???The Wikimon (talk) 00:09, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just indented here for you If you know the person and you know their e-mail address then you just send in the normal manner. If not, then you need to go to go to Preferences (Link is at the top of your User & Talk pages) Okay... you must be on your own page, and you will not see the e-mail link because you have not made the request to allow e-mails by going to your 'preferences' User profile:- Enable e-mail from other users This allows other registered users to send you an e-mail using "E-mail this user" link on the sidebar of your user page. E-mails are sent using a web interface, and your e-mail address is not revealed to a sender (that is, unless you decide to reply by e-mail).

You can see on the left side of my page/s:

Create articles

edit

Before creating, it's a good idea to read some. - I didn't, wrote my first, it was deleted within five minutes, because it didn't meet the standard formatting, and notability of the subject was not clear. - If you want to avoid that experience, consider to first write additions to existing articles, correct mistakes. - If you know what you want to write, develop it in your sandbox, where you are free to play. - What are your interests? - As said above, every red link you see is an invitation to write an article! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:37, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

ps: look for inspiration --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:42, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm taking in every thing you tell me like a sponge. You'll see me editing in no time and then creating articles.The Wikimon (talk) 00:11, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Here, sponge, is the official guide for writing. - You could copy the general part of the inspiring user page and make it your own, if you like, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:33, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Dear Sponge feeder, you're gonna keep me busy for another few days, and I'll have to wait for another few days before I create my own articles.. Is it OK if I attach a gmail account to this Account?? and I'm gonna start making changes in my preferences...And how would it be to be a guest on this Teahouse thingy??? I like what you guys do and that's pretty much what happens at the Teahouse...The Wikimon (talk) 10:41, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Go to the teahouse, meet people, tell me how it is, - I didn't have time for tea yet, - In creating, keep in mind but everything you write needs a good source (no original research OR), but has to differ from the source (no plagiarism). - Others do "gnomish" work: look for the misspelling of a word and correct it, a task that will never end, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:01, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

In the meantime, there are countless ways that you can help the project...for example, if you like writing, work in your sandbox and creating a new Wikipedia article about something you're interested in (see WP:Your first article for a phenomenal FAQ). Hi there! No, you don't look rude at all. It's just that our policy for the treatment of living people (here) is very strict about protecting them from unsourced commentary and unduly negative presentations (for example, an article on Tom Cruise focusing on press reports calling him... "different"... would be deleted as an attack page). If you have sources for the information removed, it would be best included at the same time as the information, allowing people to check its verifiability and pertinence. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:19, 17 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Got that!! Thanks a lot!!! I'll add it again with 2-3 sources again and please let me know if I've done the job correctly!!! Thanks again for a super fast reply!!!

Your baby is coming along nicely! I bolded the article title, and it would be great if you could phrase the first line so that it comes first. You will certainly format the refs from "bare url" to details, like the first one. Consider to list them separately, as — for example — in BWV 31. Will keep looking ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:08, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Did I ever tell you how much you rock!! Becuase you really do! And stop using exclamatory marks! I won't you em any more. I want to say I'm sorry for your loss, but it won't help you. I wish and hope that the person's memories rest with you forever and this universe will ensure that you meet him/her again. EE will be out soon. Realised that the best way to help and not get articles deleted is to get it featured or DYK (Master that you are) and have decided that all my articles will have some such status. Hence the caution. Proveit silly not working and so bare URLs... Will set it straight and reassemble first line. Thank You mama Bear. Expect some cookies which I should share. The Wikimon (talk) 18:05, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you (blushing a bit)! - EE: before publishing think about where it connects, what article(s) should link to it (question of notability). - Please contact people who knows economics and their terms and have them look also. Find which terms have articles. - "No plagiarism" is very important: if you quote word by word from a source, mark as such, if not see that the wording is different! - DYK comes only afterwards, no guarantee ;) Quotes and lists don't count for a minimum of 1.5k characters of prose. As it has to be nominated within the 5 days after publishing I would polish in user space first. In expectation, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:15, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
The lead (some say lede) should be a summary of referenced facts in the body. Please move all refs to the body, you can name them and use them more than once. (For DYK, every paragraph has to have an inline citation.) The history section is too short, but look again after moving ;) - The first sentence of Criticism seems to miss a word. - U.S. Army is linked, doesn'thave to appear under See also. - Finally: I don't understand it, but that doesn't matter ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for creating Expeditionary Economics, The Wikimon!

Wikipedia editor FoCuSandLeArN just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Nice article, but has it worked?

So, following the review I'd like to raise the following questions: 1) is it correct to assume that expeditionary economics focuses on providing support or the enquiry into how that support's relaid, etc.? The intro might need to be rephrased. 2) I think a difinition of failed state would be convenient. Last sentence of the first paragraph: what structuring? Could you expand? 3) "Messy capitalism" needs to be described. 4) The second paragraph of the same section needs referencing, especially the last statement. 5) Who criticised the theory? It's preferable to mention as many angles as possible, extending the article to offer a wide coverage of opinions. It's a great new addition to Wikipedia, that's for sure. Good luck with its development, and let me know if you need anything else. Hope to see you around. Regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 19:52, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Editor of the Week clerk committee!

Buster may have told you about what we do, but if he hasn't then I'll just do a quick run-through.

  • We try and find deserving editors who haven't got the appreciation they should be getting.
  • We nominate them to get the award.
  • The nominator says a paragraph or two about the recipient, which forms our main banner.
  • We have an infobox which is prepared for the recipient to be displayed at several places.
  • Every sunday, one recipient from the Q is given the prize, and all of us congratulate them at their talk page, thanking them for their work here.

This is basically all we do. If you want to help, there are two places you can — Either help with the nomination and awarding process by searching for new editors, and volunteering to award the prize, or to help with the technical things, and creating the infobox and other such things.

Do tell any of us if you's like to learn anything

Cheers, TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:23, 6 April 2013 (UTC) [Kindly leave a TalkBack]Reply

Hey Soni. Thanks for welcoming Wikimon. I'm not 100% sure if we are letting the nominator know that their person has received the award. I know I have not been doing that. If no one is doing that, maybe Wikimon can take up the task. It would be like Mon or Tues after another clerk dispenses the reward. Wikimon...You would have to check to make sure that the recepient DID in fact get the Award. I'll be out till late Sunday night. Let me lnow here. ```Buster Seven Talk 06:09, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
No problem!! Tell me who is the lucky guy, I'll check on him/her and let you know if it reached em.. Sunday night you say, I'll check up on Monday mornin'... Thanks again!! Mean a lot, my first WikiProject!!! The Wikimon (talk) 06:34, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
  1. Go to the accepted nominations page. We call this "The Q" .The top editor is First in Line at the Q.
  2. You will see there who nominated that editor. Make note of the nominator.
  3. Sunday night/Monday morn the Award is distributed. Mon/Tues we visit the recepient to congratulate.
  4. sometime on Monday, you check to verify distgribution and then notify the nominator.
```Buster Seven Talk 06:44, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sounds real easy, I think I can do this prett easily... Consider it done! The Wikimon (talk) 07:09, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just so we are on the same wavelength. The only part you need to do is the "Notify the Nominator" part. ```Buster Seven Talk 11:53, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
LOL!! Yes I get your point :-), I was just trying to make myself look very professional.. I just have to "Notify the Nominator". No problemo... The Wikimon (talk) 12:19, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, you also can come in on Mon/Tues to congratulate the recipient when the award is distributed. :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:20, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't matter if your'e old or new! Everyone can come in and do the greetings!!! Just check if the recipient has been awarded, and add your greetings after that! (See the current EotW if you are not sure how to do it) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:44, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Adoption
edit
Hello Wikimon! GoP is currently camping, so he will not be grading my final exam until Sunday or later. Just stay patient. Your adoption page will officially begin when this red link turns blue: User:Go Phightins!/Adopt/The Wikimon. Don't get your hopes up, but I want him to let me guide you through the course with him peeking over our shoulders. It depends on what GP wants and on what you want. If GP wants me to guide you through the course, would you be okay with that? Or do you want him to guide you through the course? If I guide you through the course, he will leave follow-up comments along the way. Which one would you like? Thanks. P.S. Check out my user page by clicking the JHU. ~~JHUbal27 17:23, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi JHUbal27!!! I have no problem with any one of you teaching me!!! I am soo happy that you are taking interest and so I have no problems whatsoever!!! The Wikimon (talk) 19:33, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay! Don't worry, we'll all be helping you and we'll help you succeed. Btw, does my user page amuse you? ~~JHUbal27 21:48, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so very much! Means lot to me that you guys came back and told me that I was finally being adopted by not one but two amazing editors!! Oh do I love your user page or do I love it??? I have planning to steal the background of yours because just too good... By the end of the classes with GoP, you are gonna help me get my user page and it better be better than yours... The Wikimon (talk) 22:55, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Now GP will have to let me work with you. He has to grade my final exam first. He's so worried about that before he trusts me. Lots of people use the {{user info}} template, you can steal that. I will re-model my user page. This is just a start. There's a lot more! I will help you design your page by the time you're done with adoption. I need to experiment first by checking out the user page design center. A Wikisong? That's pretty awesome. Is it like an Irish tune or something? What were you thinking? ~~JHUbal27 23:29, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
My friend, that was the Pokemon tune!!! You do know about Pokemon right, Pocket Monsters??? And my User ID is based in that, The Wikimon... I'm a Wikipedian Monster! :-) I already went thru user page center long ago, it appears to be defunct... The only good thing is the Hall of fame!! The Wikimon (talk) 01:22, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm not a Pokemon fan, I'm more of a Mario fan. Hope that doesn't make you hate me!   ~~JHUbal27 01:52, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Doh! I love Mario!! Especially Kart! I started playing Mario when I was 8!! My first game ever, but Pokemon's got heart and that's what I like about it... The Wikimon (talk) 01:55, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just out of curiosity, but what's your favorite Pokemon? Mine will always be #157! ZappaOMati 03:29, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
One Pokemon?? My latest fav was Arceus for a short time but some of my all time favs include Charizard, Venasaur, Blastoise from the original... Loved Dragonite as well.. Then came turtwig and its evolutions cause I played loads of games with it as my starter... Soo many of em, but tough I pick one.. The Wikimon (talk) 03:36, 7 April 2013 (UTC).Reply
Well, Charizard has been a personal favorite as well, until I got Pokemon Crystal from my cousin, then I guess Typhlosion kinda stole the stage. I don't know why, but my favorites have always been starter Pokemon, besides maybe Snorlax and Haxorus. Also, speaking of Wikisongs, how do you feel about mine? ZappaOMati 03:47, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Technically, I too am yet to pass my adoption exam (one which I havent given for months now), but if you'd like so, I too offer my services to help get you through with the basics of Wikipedia before you give the tests. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 02:25, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have nothing to lose! So if you guys can teach me together, nothing like it!! The Wikimon (talk) 02:28, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Soni, technically I asked first, but if you want to work with me, I'm fine with that. I think Go Phightins! would approve. He will look over our shoulders and help us if we need it. I'll tell him. What do you say Soni, you and me? ~~JHUbal27 03:12, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I spoke with Soni and I will guide you through the course once I get GoP's approval. Soni said that they'll help you if you need it, but they are not available full time. However, I will be available most of the time, even though I'm in school. I can't wait! ~~JHUbal27 04:57, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Comments on definition of Economics or Political Economy
edit
I am only following Lionel Robbins definition in his essay on the nature and significance of economic science published in 1945. "Economics is the science that studies human behavior as a relationship between ends and scarce means, which have alternative uses". In addition, the supply and demand model I used is in all economics textbooks.
Moreover, The science of Economics is not limited to nor intents to analyze "the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services" in a way an engineer or a senior manager may do, but instead studies the behavior of actors (also called economic agents) performing economic activity on the economic scene. Of course production, distribution and consumption of goods and services have economics aspects but are not the object of study. This is similar to the economics of War. Definitely, War is not the object of the economics science. Economists probable have no light to throw about conducting the war, the tactics and strategy, training and movement of troops, arms to use and many other aspect of War. But economic analysis can illuminate many of the most urgent and most intricate problems of a community organized for War.
According to Lionel Robbins, we should not confuse objects that have economic aspects with the actual object of the science. For example, choosing between leisure and labor, what to study, for how long and where also have economic aspects. For an economist the production of potatoes and the development of philosophical knowledge are in the the same category because both are objects of human desire, imply choice and the use of scarce means to obtain them.
Again, the actual object of economics is the behavior of actors or agents when they have multiple ends in sights, limited resources to obtain them, a set of preferences, and the capability of making a choice. Firulaith (talk) 06:20, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I would love to discuss this with you! I am currently concentrating Economics for my exams and I love this subject so very much. I plan to commit my self to this stream for my career as well. I completely agree with your view, that you follow Lionel Robbins' definition. But remember, he wrote this in 1931. Now I could disagree and state that Adam Smith's definition on from "Wealth of nations", which is,"Economics is a science which studies the nature and causes of wealth of nations"(not that I do support it, I'm more Keynesian). Alfred Marshall's, A.C Pigou's, J.M Keynes and Benham's definitions are all not bad. Times change and so do views. Joesph Stiglitz, Paul Krugman and Amartya Sen have excellent definitions as well. What we must do, is accept them all and give equal importance or lack thereof. Why you may ask, because definitions will continue to come and will continue to disregard the earlier ones.
I actually have a strong urge to use Prof. Samuelson's definition, which states,“Economics is the study of how people and society end up choosing, with or without the use of money, to employ scarce productive resources that could have alternative uses to produce various commodities over time and distributing them for consumption, now or in the future, among various persons or groups in society. It analyses costs and benefits of improving patterns of resource allocation”. This in my opinion is the possibly the best neo-classical explanation, cause it is a growth definition. And for me, Economics is all about growth and development.
If I am bold enough to say, your view on Economics is a more Positive approach, and Macroeconomic. But Economics in your view would only alienate the opposite view. Economics is Normative, it is a balance of both Micro and macro economic approaches and it is not only a Science, it is an Art as well.
On your point about how "War is not the object of the economics science", please look up on this page: Expeditionary Economics. And more importantly the cause and effect of War is economic. Lionel Robbins proves it. Scarce resources, unlimited wants and alternative uses of them have resulted in nations fighting with one another, going to war to ensure that their wants are satisfied and that they have access to resources. Please look this up as well War.
You can now understand that Economics is a confluence of unlimited contradictions, differences in thought and aspect. But this is an encyclopedia, and thus, we cannot fight. we have to come to a consensus. And this is me trying to tell you that, not only is your view 1000% correct, the view of the current version of the article is also perfectly correct.
Thank you very much for this debate. Please continue if you wish, cause I'm loving it! The Wikimon (talk) 07:11, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Wikimon. Can't say as I agree it's an excellent article, at least not yet, but it's a start anyhow & thanks for the compliment. This is a new experience for me of sorts since of all the articles I've created here the last few years none have ever been slapped with a page curator thing. If there's anything you wish to do vis a vis expansion, by all means go for it. I've been seeing broadcast promos for the show and a Wiki search indcated no one had started an article for it yet so I took the bull by the horns. Unfortunately my web searches did't turn up a whole lot of information. Most of what I did find was a rehash of the same basic info covered in the FX network website. I hope as we get closer to premier airdate there will be more articles availabe on the net to source. Have a great Wiki kind of day! Sector001 (talk) 07:45, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Why am I blocked?
edit
Hi everyone! Like I told this happened on my first day, I've been blocked for account creation or something like that... Please let me know what is HAPPENING? And it says no expiry set? What does that mean? Thanks! The Wikimon (talk) 01:06, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, looking at the reason given, WP:CheckUser looked at your IP address, which I guess is in the same area as a vandal account, so apparently, it states that you may have used an account abusively. Also, by "no expiry set", that means that your block will not be able to expire. ZappaOMati 01:28, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Come on! Are you serious? But what did I do? Shouldn't I be pardoned cause revert vandalism and stuff? And I can't edit anyone's talkpage or any article so how do I communicate? You gotta help me buddy! The Wikimon (talk) 01:31, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Guys you gotta help me here, somebody anybody!! The Wikimon (talk) 01:39, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
As I have said, it's most likely not you responsible, but just happens to be bad luck that your IP address/network was used by a vandal in the past. If you want to get out of this mess, you should use the {{Unblock}} template to ask for your block to be reviewed, and maybe an admin can lift your block. I'll try to see if I can get in contact with Timotheus Canens (talk · contribs) (the user that blocked you) to see if he can provide any input. ZappaOMati 01:40, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hey, Wikimon. Your block has been marked as a checkuser-block, which means that it relies on checkuser data (information that is private and not normally accesible to users, even admins). Normal admins (like myself) don't have access to this data, so we cannot unblock you without checking with a checkuser (a person with access to the sensitive information in question). As such, I've marked your template above as "helped"; it's being looked at, and your unblock request is enough to draw attention anyway. Thanks; please be patient with us. :P Writ Keeper  02:04, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Wikimon, I emailed Tim, the blocking admin, and asked him to give some explanation for the block. To me, blocking a contributor who is helping the project and is not being disruptive in anyway, whether or not they are a clean start, have edited previously, or otherwise is flatout reprehensible. I will wait to make that judgment here until we hear from Tim, but we can hardly blame you for your IP address   Go Phightins! 02:08, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • WOW — I just saw this too. Basically what Writ Keeper says though. Maybe you have an IP address that used to belong to another user. I have your talk on my watchlist, and hopefully this can be resolved in short order. — Ched :  ?  02:12, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Two things for you Wikimon: first, no one is calling you a loser. Have you seen the outpouring of support you've gotten? Two of them are administrators themselves who are surprised! And two: I don't know where you live/what time zone you're in. I am in the Eastern time zone, so for me, it is about 10:20. I'm going to go to bed and hope that when I wake up tomorrow, this will be fixed. I would suggest that maybe you would want to find an off-wiki way to kill a few hours, and hopefully you'll come back and this debacle will be resolved. Go Phightins! 02:20, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Did I ever tell you how much you rock Ched! The Wikimon (talk) 02:16, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Wikimon. I don't know T. Canens personally or I might be tempted to just ask him to reconsider. I also don't have access to CU data, so I'm not sure how "stale" the old information on Vrghs jacob is. Their last edit was a full 2 years ago, and I think typically CU data is only considered valid for 3 months. Now perhaps that editor was using the account on another project more recently, or created some logable action more recently. Like Go Phightins, it's late for me as well; but I will follow-up on this when I get up tomorrow. I honestly do hope that it's a misunderstanding, and that on seeing your declaration of not being Vrghs jacob then TC will assume the best and unblock. I personally haven't seen anything you've done that is objectionable. Do you know if a WP:SPI was filed? Was there a discussion about this somewhere? Do you have any idea on why this came up? Why a CU was run in the first place? — Ched :  ?  02:39, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) That's exactly what I was wondering. Doesn't one have to have some sort of probable cause before running a CU? We still have yet to see evidence that Wikimon has been disruptive in any way. I see no SPI. I asked all of these questions to T Canens in an email, and have yet to receive a reply. And now I promise I will sign off for tonight. Go Phightins! 02:42, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay, here's the story. I was running a check on User:Ajayupai95, who appealed his block to BASC. Since I ran the original check that led to the block (logged at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Vrghs jacob/Archive#21 February 2013), a fellow arbitrator and BASC member asked me if I could give him some pointers. Since it's been almost two months since I ran those checks, I do not remember the details. So I had to check Ajayupai95 again, and Wikimon popped up in the results. There was significant IP overlap, and the useragent was also pretty much identical. Moreover, I didn't find any other account editing from those IPs. T. Canens (talk) 04:44, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
What you're saying is that Im Ajayupai95... How can that be? Please tell what I should do cause I'm not this guy.. I edit from my iPod and a college comp and once in a while from my community comp in my apartments... Surely is a misunderstanding right? Could this guy have used the college comp or community comp at the same time as I did or something like that? Please tell me what I could do o prove to you hat this is my first account... Check my contribs or something like that... The Wikimon (talk) 04:49, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am seeing way too many behavioral similarities to believe that the two of you are not related. I won't tell you what they are, because then you'll get harder to find on your next account, but it's pretty obvious that you're related, and I don't even have access to the CU data. --Rschen7754 07:25, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Come on!! It's almost like you're threatening me! How am I related? Look if you want proof then please I ask you to present it to me... I don't know how you came to the conclusion but Im not this guy! The Wikimon (talk) 07:40, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Rschen, I have taken a really brief look at Ajayupai95 and his contributions, and though you are correct that there are some behavioral similarities. I guess my question is, which of those similarities are disruptive? I understand that socking is a concern and a problem, but what behavior led to the original block that all of these other blocks are warranted? I see Vrghs jacob had issues with copyright violations, but I have not seen any of that from Wikimon...though granted I haven't exactly been out looking for them, but the only similarity I see between Wikimon and Ajayupai is some personality characteristics, and none of the characteristics I see are disruptive. If they are socks, which I'll trust the CHU tools can determine, then I will live with it, but it still seems rather weird. Go Phightins! 10:30, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Come on GoP! You're suggesting behavioral similarities as well? What I mean is how can I sound or type like another guy? I just don't get this... Ok I'll let it go and let you decide whatever you have to... I'm getting too frustrated about it... The Wikimon (talk) 10:38, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
They're editing in the same topic area (illusion of support), and nobody needs that many accounts (evading scrutiny). --Rschen7754 10:41, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
True. And Wikimon, like I said, the behavior similarities I see are positive. You are both extremely enthusiastic about what you are doing. Topic areas, meh. We'll see. I will check back in a few hours. Go Phightins! 10:48, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
How about attempting to deceive arbcom? T. Canens (talk) 13:27, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
What precisely did he do to "deceive arbcom"? Go Phightins! 02:06, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'd actually be interested in having one aspect clarified. Was the Ajayupai95 appeal made, or any other unblock appeals made, after this account was created? Ryan Vesey 02:16, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The Ajayupai appeal was made just a week ago. Making an appeal while operating a sock? That counts as deception in my book. It's worth noting that Ajayupai95 also made a big fuss over his socking block back in February, and then suddenly stopped complaining after another checkuser confronted him directly about a sock he made. T. Canens (talk) 02:22, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Then that's not my problem is it... He's stopped appealing so you start picking up others to torture! Do u know how I feel? After all that I've done, whic admit isn't much, that went all by the book. Wikipedia says NPOV, I say NPOV, they say use the teaHouse, I used it... Where I have I ever gone wrong that you want to block me indefinitely for? I mean there has to be some absolutely credible bias that I was bad for Wikipedia and I was better of not editing.., now this is a question you seem to be evading... I understand you have some awesome rights which you no doubt got for good reasons, but please wield it a little more sensibly... The Wikimon (talk) 02:41, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Tim, that's what I was trying to get clarified. I was unsure from my reading if the block had been based on an old appeal or if a new one occurred. Requesting an appeal of another sock outweighs any good actions taken by this account. We don't leave the good hand unblocked of good hand/bad hand blocks. Ryan Vesey 15:36, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what's wrong with you Canens, but that was pretty rude... Please read my post below. Why can't you just for once accept that I'm another guy? Is it that tough??? And why don't you get my point: I am helping Wikipedia and no disrupting it!! Have I ever caused a problem like that other guy? No I haven't!! The Wikimon (talk) 14:13, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I personally feel it's rather unfortunate that somebody who edited constructively for a month in good faith and without disruption is blocked indefinitely for suspected socking, when we let off editors with much more problematic behaviour with lesser sanctions. Still, this is a checkuser block so there's no real point arguing about it here. You have already appealed to arbcom, so I think you should be patient and wait for their decision. Chamal TC 14:21, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Chamal!! Will wait for it...
And FYI Mr Canens: Hi there! I'm The Wikimon! Just today I got blocked by a Check User by the name Tim Canens for account creation. After persistent messages from friends of mine on Wikipedia, I got him to come and comment on my user page. The reason he gave was that my IP number was similar to that of another user by the name Ajayupai95. Now I don't know this dude, and I don't know how my IP got interlinked, but what I can tell you is that the exact same thing happened on my first day in Wikipedia on 12th March 2013. I was apparently blocked for one day! And in a few hours it got removed! I even recieved a message from Rschen7754 who told me I was behaviourally similar to Ajayupai95... I don't know how to react to that cause it sounds real absurd, so what I'll do is try to tell you guys to go thru my edits...
I am Counter Vandalism Academy student, a New Page patroller although I haven't got any special status for that! Not once have I been accused of vandalism, nor have I distrupted Wikipedia content. I have even proposed a Wikiproject and am in the process of getting Adopted by Go Phightins. Now was this guy like this? I don't think so... Please do what you have to and hopefully this speed breaker will be gone in a jiffy. I think this is a serious misunderstanding and can be solved real quickly! Thanks a lot and enjoy Wiking!
This is what I sent as soon as my unblock request was denied... Deceiving?? I think not... You may not have any hope in me but I will always keep hope in you I see the light... Didn't mean it in a rude way, just came out like that! The Wikimon (talk) 14:28, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ajay, a word of advice for you — Don't lie. Even if you lie, CU can find out who you really are. And you will be blocked again and again and again. There is only one way out of this — Just admit the truth, go off wikipedia for 6 months, and come back for a fresh start. If you do that, nobody is going to stop you from editing wikipedia ever again. [As long as you don't do anything wrong again] But if you lie again, you can stay for 2 weeks (as you've been doing) and you'll be blocked again. And your six months cut off will be even longer.
Just admit the truth, and come back after 6 months. Ask for being unblocked, and say you want a clean start. If there are any problems even after you've done that, mail any one of us — Gerda, or GoP or Yunshui or Soni. But you have to wait a full six months man. 117.194.80.51 (talk) 21:13, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Im sorry I don't know who you are, but I'm taking the advice of my buddies and am gonna fight it through. And I'm not lying. Let me tell this to you as calm as I can. I am not that guy, please stop it! I mean, why can't I be another guy, is it that tough? The Wikimon (talk) 00:00, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Seriously. Stop lying. A CU is sufficient proof in itself, and your edit history has circumstantial evidence in itself. Your name is certainly Ajay, and your IP and behaviour are certainly similar to the blocked account ajayupai95. So could you be another guy? In some realm of impossibility, you might.Are you? Not in this universe. I could go on with all the circumstantial proof I see, but there is no point in doing so. So just give up, and admit your lie. A CU is not sufficient proof in itself., quote: "With rare exceptions, my [Elen of the Roads] view of the CU tool is that it can exclude a suspect (one is in Poland, the other in Tasmania), and it can round you up some more suspects, but without some evidence of similarity in editing, it can't say that two users are socks." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:39, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Wow Soni, didn't expect this from you! So the CU is the ultimate thing here isn't it? Ok, I'll tell you my end of it! I'm not that guy ok! So I'm not lying. Next can the CU prove that I used go into edit wars like that guy, write some lame stuff on his talk page and on the whole be a bad editor? No I help Wikipedia. This is no reality in another universe, it's just te truth why you can't see! Firstly please use your Username, and not an IP cause I want to be sure it's you and not some other loser... A CU is not sufficient to say that I was a BAD guy and stop me from editing! Please get that Straight! The Wikimon (talk) 04:14, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The IP is from Howrah,West Bengal..My stand on the topic is neutral as he is doing a great job at editing but i cant decide as I do see some very partial common editing grounds,so in good humor I say Weak Keep.Uncletomwood (talk) 07:24, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Request reason:
Hi everyone! I have been currently blocked by T Canens because I am apparently a sock puppet of Vrghs Jacob. First of all, I really dont know who Vrghs Jacob is, and secondly I'm obviously not him! Let me remind you all that the exact same thing happened to me on my first day in Wikipedia! I was blocked for one day and then it was removed immediately! Please tell me why this happens to me. Why I have been blocked is my basic question... I sincerely hope it is a mistake cause I think you can make out from my edits that I am not disruptive or a vandal. In fact I am going to Counter Vandalism Classes and I have my adoption soon, so please clear this mess if you can cause i have to get back to my classes! Why Am I Still Blocked?
edit
I took a break for few hours and am back and I still see that I'm blocked. Yunshui, who declined my unblock request told me to contact ArbCom which, from Ched's experiences in the past, seems to be a dangerous proposition. I have emailed them anyways. Rschen7754, I'm sorry if you feel that I snapped at you but it felt like you were accusing me of a crime... Look, I'm not this guy and I checked his contributions. He seems to have made some very controversial edits on numerous pages. But that's the point: I have been helping Wikipedia, unlike him! I have reverted vandalism edits, proposed some forward-thinking ideas and am on the whole a good and honest Wikipedian who once in a while has some fun with his Wikibuddies! I'm not boasting, just trying to present my side of this situation... I can't convince you until and unless you are convinced that there is a minuscule droplet of a chance that I'm a different guy. Only then can I convert that chance into a possibility and then a certainty that I'm not that guy! I see that you are all very enthu about Wikipedia, and so am I... Over a month's time, I have started to absolutely adore Wikipedia, and I don't think I log out regularly, which shows how much I love it! I haven't made a singly unforgivable mistake on Wikipedia and that should be enough. Why should I suffer because some other guy made bad edits? I don't know what else I can add... Yeah, that's it, That's all I have to say. The Wikimon (talk) 10:12, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I woke up to this surprise and support what you said. I have a friend who left because enough people believed that he was another user, didn't believe him, - please please please don't do the same, stay patient, see above, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, I think that's that! The ArbCom says I should call them after changing location, either a region or city. Now I don't know how that's gonna help cause TheOriginalSoni, Tim Canens and Rschen7754 are hell bent on blocking me forever. Anyways I think I'm gonna consider that option and then decide a little later... I don't know how all of this happened? One day I'm editing all fine, and then it all comes like a storm. Gareth, Gerda, Ched, Buster, Go Phightins, Dianomite, XapApp, Theopolisme, ZappaoMatti, Ghorpappi, UncleTomWood, Gtwfan52, Crisco 1492, JHUbal27, Anasthasia, FOcusandLEarn and KiethBob... Thanks a lot! You've been very encouraging.
I might return but that's not a very sure shot option. My account has been marred and nothing can change that. Losers of the century: TheOriginalSoni (especially you), Tim Canens and Rschen7754, you never did answer my question: Was I worth being blocked, was I a vandal or was I better off not editing Wikipedia? You might have a laugh that you blocked me, but its all on you! Even if I was a sock puppet, which I am not, was anyone annoyed with me, did I hinder Wikipedia's working or was I disrupting anything? I wasn't. Based on the assumption that I was a sock puppet, you decided my future, expecting that I would vandalize something or the other. The point is you don't own Wikipedia. I just want you to realize that I was a good addition to Wikipedia, not a bad one. I will sleep like a baby cause I know I wasn't in the wrong, but you guys, I don't think so...
If you have the balls to stand up for your decision, then answer my questions, but I think I know what's gonna happen. It hurts, and you won't understand that- ever. So long and Thank you for the fish! Oh, before I forget Tim, Rschen and Soni please trout yourselves, will ya?
  • Just a brief comment here. The Wikimon, I honestly am sorry to see things go down the way that they did. I personally don't put much stock in CU type of things simply because of the technology that exists today. I tend to AGF to an extreme, and simply deal with things on an account by account basis. I don't know many of the people involved in this well enough to be able to persuade them in any particular direction — but I do regret seeing so many people shunned by our project. Perhaps some day everyone will be Skypeing their edits, and it will be easy to see who is who — but ... I tend to want to believe EVERYONE, and I do find this difficult in that there seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding in what's happened here. At the end of the day — I do wish you the very best in life, and thank you for the kindness you've shown me. All my best wishes. — Ched :  ?  12:11, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I ain't going nowhere buddy! I'm fighting this all the way through. If you guys can keep faith, then so can I. See this is the real feature of WP:WER! To retain our editors. And yes Skype would be so awesome! But why aren't Soni, Rschen and Tim coming? I want them to see what's happening. They can't come here, drop their bombs and just walk off. They should follow-up. Is this what CUs are like? The Wikimon (talk) 12:21, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
      • How would I know? What you aren't getting is, if I was him why would I ask for an unblock if I already had an account at my disposal? And for the Ip address, I really don't know how it collided? Can this happen if a Wi-Fi is used, cause our apartments and college both offer that otpion! You tell me now. 1. Why would I put myself thru the trouble to get back that account when I had this account already? 2. Can IP address be common on two comps then that might be the case, cause I edit from two three different places, namely my home, college and my apartment cafe? The Wikimon (talk) 12:34, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I should point out, with no inference intended, that this sort of repeated claim of innocence and injustice is remarkably similar behaviour to that exhibited by Ajayupai95 after his account was blocked. You are not doing yourself any favours here. Yunshui  12:41, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Could it also be with no offence intended that you guys are hell bent on blocking me? Ok just answer this. What did I do wrong? Who did I hurt? Whose feathers did I ruffle? Answer that and then please continue your "investigation"... The Wikimon (talk) 12:44, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
No-one is "hell-bent on blocking you", and whilst I appreciate that you're frustrated at the moment, that sort of attitude is not going to improve your situation. Inasmuch as we are interested at all, we are interested in ensuring the smooth running of Wikipedia — allowing disruptive editors to return to editing via the back door, even if they are subsequently productive, is not helpful to the project, since it allows them to circumvent the proper procedures for returning and thus undermines the entire block review process. As such, if there is evidence that a new user is in fact a banned or blocked user returning to Wikipedia, we do not take their contributions into account — they are blocked and advised to appeal under their previous account (or to ArbCom). (Note: I'm not trying to infer by this that you are such an editor; I personally haven't got enough information at this time to take a stance one way or the other.) Conflict of Interest
Just a thought on my part, as I'm uninvolved in this affair. I wanted to point out that Timotheus Canens is part of the ArbCom BASC, and having been the block admin faces a serious conflict of interest. It would be analogous to a policeman arresting a burglar and then acting as the judge in his subsequent trial. I would like to hear thoughts on this. I agree. You want him to move to a new city to see whether or not he's a sock? Come on. I agree with Ryan. He either is or he is not. And I disagree with what Yunshui said above regarding circumventing a block. If someone is evading a block to continue being disruptive, that's one thing. But if someone comes in as a completely new editor, severing all old ties with previous accounts and is constructive, it is reprehensible to block him/her. If it violates policy, ignore it. After all, when a rule gets in the way of improving the encyclopedia, one should ignore it. Blocking Wikimon is getting in the way of improving the encyclopedia, he is not being disruptive, so one can ignore the policy. But back to the response from BASC, that is ridiculous. Go Phightins! 19:05, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Taking at face value the fact that he is a sock, I'm 100% in support of the block. I can't really argue from any different point of view because I have no idea what the data is proving the sockpuppetry. In any case, I've made, and still do make, arguments we shouldn't block users for sockpuppetry if they are wholly productive and don't display any of the problems that got their primary account blocked. In this case, The Wikimon asked for an unblock of another sock account while editing productively from this one. It is impossible to assume good faith in that instance. Go Phightins!, I think you were duped. Ryan Vesey 19:11, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's possible (won't be the first, nor the last I am sure  ), but I am still confused as to this whole deal about requesting unblock of another account while operating this one. Did he, from this username while logged in to "The Wikimon" request unblock of another account, or did one of his suspected socks, from that account request unblock. If the former, then I am sold, if the latter, than not entirely sure. I have also heard what I believe Gerda mentioned above: checkusers can eliminate suspects, but not, on the surface convict them. I have done a little more review of the behavior from this account based on some of his suspected socks, and I am up in the air. That said, I still feel this is blocking a productive contributor, and that is something that is unhelpful. Go Phightins! 19:21, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I can't sit here and do anything... Please let me edit. The Wikimon (talk) 10:00, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay, here's a straight answer, without taking sides either for or against the block. If arbcom have given you a solution your best bet is to follow that. As explained before, you're under a checkuser block as a suspected sock used for block evasion, so no admin is likely to unblock you here. This is especially true since arbcom have offered you a possible solution, and unblocking you would mean ignoring that as well as the checkuser evidence. Repeatedly commenting here (particularly any comments irrelevant to your unblock request) is not going to help your case any, and if you keep it up you'll most likely get your talk page access revoked as well. Alternatively, you can wait six months (no editing under any account/IP) and then invoke the standard offer. Chamal TC 12:47, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The first ones mine and you can use it! Choose which one you want and please fill up all the headings... Goals need to be filled up and please add App Store and Google Lay under high level importance. The Wikimon (talk) 12:23, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, the photos you listed are kinda formatted wrong, but that's not exactly of concern. Anyway, The Anonymouse (talk · contribs) added the templates, and marked Google Play as high, and App Store as top importance. Feel free to list any other things you'd be interested in adding or so, and we could get to it. ZappaOMati 16:08, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I really did not want to do this, but here it is
edit
Just in case nobody's noticed, I am on an enforced Wikibreak. Which means a script makes sure I do not edit from my account at all. [Which is why I am using an IP, and I am trying to edit as less as I can - And please stop flashing my current location everywhere please.]
As for your reply Wikimon, here it is - You may have done nothing wrong from this account. But the fact remains unchanged that you are the same user as Ajay, as well as the person with the previous accounts. And by Wikipedia standards, that is sufficient for you to be blocked. I did not make those rules. If I were given the choice, I probably would have voted to change them to allow a clean start as long as the user concerned is transparent in what he did. But the rules currently stand as they are, and until the time when everyone votes to change them, it seems logical to stick with them.
I just came to know that a CU is not sufficient proof within itself, which forces me to present this circumstancial evidence which I would rather not have.
  • There is a direct IP collision between you and Ajay, and all the other accounts.
  • You are Indian and 18 years old. The id 'Ajayupai95' indicates he most probably would be 18 years old, and certainly is Indian since he has the same IP as you.
  • Your edits to User:Ajay/Wikidiary and User:Ajay/FirstPost make it sufficiently clear your name is Ajay.
  • A CU has verified that you are most probably a sock of the same user.
  • Your behavioural patterns, as well as your claims of innocence are very similar to him.
  • As mentioned above, Ajay sent an email from the same IP you edit from just 4 minutes ago.
Is this sufficient evidence to show you are the same user? I think so. Wikimon, I do respect you a lot as a friend, a fellow editor as well as a fellow Indian. But I really do not stand against a lie. What you just did here was to lie. And it doesn't help. It cannot. The CheckUser sees through everything. The ArbCom have ways to find you and block you if you make another account. If my memory serves me right [and my apologies if it doesnt], Jhubal went through the same thing until he decided to come out clean. Ask him, and you'll know that you can trick all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot trick all of the people all of the time.
So seriously, I request you as a friend of yours to come out clean and say the truth. Its harder than lying, but it is the only way out. Truly. You can try making another account, but that will only make it longer before you can come back.
Say the truth and come back after six months. We'll be waiting. 117.99.182.239 (talk) 17:09, 13 April 2013 (UTC) [Mail me if you still want to talk] [Anyone else who thinks I should not have spoken some of what I did, please feel free to get it oversighted out. Same for my IP and real-life addresses]Reply
117.99, who are you and how do you know me? I did not make any vandalism edits. JHUbal27 has been my one and only account. Now, I get it. The Wikimon and Ajay are the same person. W-mon, please tell the truth. You're hearing it from me and from everyone. I have been too naive. I am done with this, and removing the barnstar. ~~JHUbal27 01:25, 14 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Really sorry Jhubal. Its just I could remember you saying somewhere that you were blocked and then you decided to come out clean. My bad. P.S. As I said, my name is Soni. 106.198.220.105 (talk) 10:09, 14 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just wanted to clarify – the checkuser tool is not a magical and mysterious tool that sees through everything. It basically shows the IPs an account has used, the accounts editing through a certain IP and the details of any emails sent through the wiki software. In addition it can show some details about the user agent (OS, browser etc). When editing from public locations like college computers (which The Wikimon claims to have done), the IP is often a shared one and all the computers would have pretty much the same configuration, so checkuser evidence in itself is not enough. However, there are other similarities in the editing patterns of the accounts that seem to support the suspected socking, and that is why this block has been put in place. Definition of economics again
edit
Thank you for your quick reply although mine took forever. I gladly accept your burger and let’s start debating. I must warn you that none of the ideas expressed below are originally mine. I try to give references as I can.
As John Stuart Mill pointed about two hundred years ago the definition of a science has almost invariable not preceded, but followed the creation of the science itself. It is then that, when the science has reached a certain stage of development, the definition of its scope is necessarily impossible. At an early stage, any attempt to discover the ultimate nature of the science was necessarily doomed to disaster. It would have been a waste of time to have attempted it. But now, it is a waste of time not to do so.
To begin, we can examine various ways economists have commonly defined it. Economics has traditionally been defined as an area of study that focuses on the social spheres in which wealth is produced, distributed, exchanged and consumed. More recent definitions have treated it as the study of private and public choices concerning the allocation of scarce resources to competing ends. Let's look at these definitions in turn.
The classical economist, from Adam Smith, James Mill, John Mill, David Ricardo, Karl Marx, and all others, used the traditional definition. The first approach was to define economics specifying certain areas of human activity. By implication, economics analyzes everything that goes on in those spheres. Next came the work of the neoclassical economist with their mathematical approach, and with the consumer, firm, the supply and demand (which determine prices as exchange values), welfare, and general equilibrium theories. Some of them (Alfred Marshall, A.C Pigou, Benham,) offer definitions of economics still tide to an area of human activity. Finally, with Lionel Robbins, came a more general recasting of the definition of economics.
Instead of being concerned with particular spheres of human activity (i.,e., production and distribution), Robbins proclaimed the subject matter of economics to be the theory of the allocation of scarce resources among competing ends. This definition can include not only the allocation of productive factors within the sphere of production or the distribution of the product, but also the allocation of resources within the family. Instead, as classical economist first thought, exclude services (as a haircut) as outside of the realm of economics because it was not produced (production referred only to material goods or wealth) the new definition includes them because scarce resources have been used.
The preoccupation with allocation in economics has evolved into seeing economics essentially as a theory of choice --of the logical processes through which people choose among alternatives. Thus, economists study how individuals, corporations and the government choose to allocate their resources. In all of these cases we can see how the study of choice is aimed at providing theory which can provide useful input into policy making, into the management of various aspects of the economy, whether by business, individuals or government.
This preoccupation with the idea of scarcity is closely related to the concept of "opportunity cost." One need only be concerned with what one gives up, if it is necessary to give up something. If there were infinite amounts of everything then you could have some of everything and there would be no trade-offs. The most common textbook example of this is that of allocating resources among various areas of production. If resources are limited (scarce), then by using them to produce one thing you will have less left over to produce something else.
The traditional Cold War illustration of this relationship, and one that is still relevant these days, is guns and butter. The more resources you devote to producing armaments, the less you have left over to produce food and other necessities of life. The more resources you devote to policing and building prisons, the less you have left over for education, job training, day care, battered women's centers and career counseling.
These, then, are the kinds of problems that concern economists who define economics as the allocation of scarce resources among competing ends. Because the focus is on choosing, rather than on particular spheres of life, this way of defining economics has resulted in a number of new areas being considered fair game for economic analysis for example the economics of medical malpractice a subject unthinkable under the old definition approach. I thought about what I've done and yeah I'm ashamed... I shouldn't have but I did. I'm Ajay U Pai. I was unjustly blocked on my first account and here I am in the same situation. I am never gonna come back now. I mean I could ask for the unblock but that wouldn't make a difference. You guys will hate me, like JHUbal27 did! Well, the cat's out of the bag, but I agree with Gerda. Think of it as jail time, and hopefully you'll be rehabilitated. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 13:13, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Enough drama. Ajay is aware of the route towards being unblocked, and continued discussion here detracts from the work of the encyclopedia. Talkpage access revoked, to prevent the same hand-wringing and self-flagellation that accompanied the last block. Nothing to see here folks, move along please. Yunshui  13:16, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Wikimon, I respect you for being one of the few people who had the courage to speak the truth. Nobody hates you; we just want you to be back. Legally this time. I surely would like to work with you on some fun India related topics when you do come back. I hope you will.
Its only a matter of six full months. Till then, Au Revoir!
And I'm Back!
edit
I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Unblock Review Team. It's been three years since I was blocked on Wikipedia. And now I'm back. I've served my time and I've had a good amount of time introspecting what I used to do on Wikipedia. I will now make sure of a couple of things:
  • No more destructive edits; only positive action.
  • Concentration on select areas of Wikipedia, namely, Economics, Business and Sports.
  • Limited interaction with other users; 'Speak when you're spoken to' policy.
  • Upholding the values of Wikipedia and contribute in making it a well-sourced medium of information.
  • Refrain from intimidation, confrontation, and slander.
I'd also like to thank the many Wikipedia users who have helped me in the past. I am a little rusty, so, please keep a tab on my work and make sure I don't make too many mistakes. It's great to be back, looking forward to some perpetual productivity. :-) The Wikimon (talk) 03:55, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Wow, three years have flown by, haven't they? It's great to see you back on the site! Zappa24Mati 03:59, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's wonderful to hear back from you Zappa. Look's like you continue to watch my Talk Page. And I can't thank you enough for that. Like I said earlier, please keep tab of my work and make sure I don't deviate from my goal. Thanks a lot, once again! The Wikimon (talk) 04:14, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
