Bot

edit

To run the bot, you have to install Python (if you haven't already), then you either execute the file every now and then (probably every day), or you set up a cron job on your computer (if you use linux), or a scheduled task (if you use windows), so that it is run automatically.

Also, if you do not know how to run Python, I would recommend asking someone else to run the bot on WP:BOTREQ. If you have the source someone will set it up automatically etc rather quickly. If you still want to run it, I recommend you talk to someone more experienced with Python, who you can find in Category:User python-2, Category:User python-3, or Category:User python-4. I would recommend trying the higher numbers first.

Thanks! Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:23, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

12 monkeys mediation cabal

edit

Hi - this issue is still not resolved. I have tried to compromise with Indecine but we have reached an empasse. I have made some tough decisions, i agreed to his rewording which i didnt much like but felt that someone had to be the bigger of the 2 of us - but he insists that the Religious Studies academic paragraph which likens Bruce Willis to a saviour prophet figure be tucked away in a paragraph not linked to the other prophet paragraphs at the very end of the article. There is no valid reason for this as you deemed that the paragraph is not Orginal Research and it is acceptable. It is also linked to the references to other prophets. It just so happens that he disagrees with it (i dont think he does though, i have mentioned that I suspect a hidden anti-relgion agenda before http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Talk%3ATwelve_Monkeys&diff=141191228&oldid=127677467 - i suspect that the IP address is Indecine before he got his user ID). I dont care whether he disagrees or not. INecine says it is fine to have them apart from each other, but Original Research to have them together. this is nonsense -he is hiding behing wikipedia's rules as a smokescreen to the fact he plain and simply disagrees with it being there at all. The paragraphs are acceptable and relevant, as you confirmed. paragraphs below

In the DVD audio commentary of La Jetee, screenwriter Janet Peoples asks, "How would we react to people who showed up and said 'Oh I've just popped up from the future' and in turn how would that person deal with our reaction...We were very interested in asking questions like 'Is this man mad? And how about the prophets of the past, were they mad? Were they true prophets? Were they coming from another time? What are all the different possibilities?'"

These questions are reflected in the movie when the character Katherine Railly lectures on "Madness and Apocalyptic Visions". She speaks about the Greek legend of Cassandra who was "condemned to know the future but to be disbelieved when she foretold it". Railly also speaks of medieval and war-time prophets warning of an apocalypse in the year 1996. Later in the movie, a photograph of one of the prophets reveals that it was actually Jose in 1917.

INDECINE WANTS THIS PARAGRAPH HIDDEN A FEW PARAGRAPHS DOWN Since its release in 1996, a few religious studies academics have authored essays claiming that the lead character James Cole (initials J.C.) fits the cinematic character type of a Christ-figure, a saviour sent to save humanity from itself.[13].

Please make a judgement - even if it goes against me - but restore my faith in wikipedia!!Breed3011 08:06, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cool Blue, Indecine deleted a post I made as i think i may have broken a rule of wiki etiquette - i should have posted it here (i think) - anyway - here it is:
The thing is though - it just isnt true. Firstly Rydra reverted the change because i broke the rules of the mediation cabal out of frustration with you and those changes that she did revert are not the changes we are talking about now anyway. Secondly, the two "religious" authors: (now we see Indecine's agenda - who says they are "religious" authors - who knows what religions they follow - they are Religious Studies academics - there is a difference). Cool Blue and the whole notion of authorial intention quite clearly says that we dont actually need to know the intentions of the writers - it is enough that the symbolism is DETECTED.
So, although it is just my opinion that the quote is speaking DIRECTLY about the biblical symbolism and it is Indecine's opinion that it does not, in reality both of our personal opinions are as irrelvent as the quote itself. The quote neither gives nor takes credibility because it is enough that the symbolism is DETECTED by a notable source. The paragraphs should be grouped together because they are on the same thematic subject though.
Furthermore, notice Indecine is not questionning the examples of the greek prophesy and medieval prophesy. There is no quote attributing this as a deliberate intention of the writer. If I was being as obsequious as Indecine I could just say it was coincedental. Why is it just the "unconfirmed" biblical symbolism (which doesnt need to be confirmed) he is objecting to and not the "unconfirmed" medieval and Greek symbolism?

edit

at [1] you asked the question, "could you give a reason." Yes, I can. wp:not#stats. It's too bad that I wasn't given a chance. Pdbailey 16:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

And do you think the policy allowing 5 days of discussion was followed? Only DGG bothered to know the reason. Pdbailey 16:33, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

What did, "Actually, yes" regard? Guides are great, but I was taking about the deletion policy which reads, "The deletion review process is not decided solely by head count. The review normally lasts for five days, sometimes extended for up to ten if the outcome is unclear." Which implies 5 on the short side, 10 on the long side. I just think 24 hours to respond wouldn't have been unreasonable when the for was clearly not filled out right. Pdbailey 16:53, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for stepping up and getting involved. I wish you luck in finding an equitable solution - I hope you succeed where I failed. All the best. -- Alucard (Dr.) | Talk 16:34, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mine was a lot less formal. While I have mediation experience in RL, I don't do it much in WP. I just saw a very painful edit war going on and no progress made, so tried to step in and get everyone calmed down and to talk about the issues, rather than each other's motivations and actions. It was as a consequence of this that the page got locked and we worked on a "sandbox" version. If you look through the Talk page of the Photo Editing article you will see the history. I got involved starting around July 27th (sorry, make that July 16th) of this year. And, just in case you are not aware of it, there is activity going on related to this dispute at Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/DreamGuy_2. Once I became aware of this activity that was directed at editors' actions, I decided that things had escalated beyond the point where I could mediate effectively, and that I wasn't really serving much purpose in continuing. Maybe you can bring some different mediation tools to the table that can get this resolved. I certainly hope so. -- Alucard (Dr.) | Talk 17:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
re: your comment on my Talk page - yes. Good luck. -- Alucard (Dr.) | Talk 19:05, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

For the record, this is not how mediation cases are handled. Before a case can be opened, all sides must agree to mediation. As the others even say in their statements, I am one side, largely (though people who agreed with me in the past were harassed until the left and their comments "archived" by people trying to come up with a fake "consensus"). The ide that you can go to my talk page, ask if I want to be a party, and if not you'll remove my name and make a decision anyway is a complete misrepresentation of how mediation is supposed to work. As you seem more interested in forging ahead to a solution with or without my input, I question your ability (or perhaps willingness) to act as a fair and uninvolved mediator here. You should remove yourself as a mediator, as you cannot go forward without this being completely a sham process. Considering that it's also been clear from the start that I think "Mediation Cabal" protocols (when they are actually followed, which you did not do) are contrary to the standard rules of Wikipedia (one individual person with no background shows up and tries to determine consensus on his own? that's nonsense), the people involved *know* this and the mediation attempt was clearly made in bad faith. But, hey, thanks to your screw up in not following the mediation rules, you've only gone to prove my point on why I don't trust it. DreamGuy 19:03, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Considering that you showed up at this mediation claiming to be an uninvolved outside party willing to work together toward a solution without bias, it's quite remarkable that you immediately managed to write up this edit already. It's quite clear that you had no mediation experience, had no intention of being a mediator, and stepped in under false pretenses. Someone who supposedly just entered into the topic in the last 24 hours and was supposed to be neutral making such statements as "Incivility has been an ongoing issue with DreamGuy. When even a slightest obstacle or conflict emerges, he tends to attack or use other negative means to "resolve" the conflict." and so forth and so on is just ridiculous. DreamGuy 23:02, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, AND you admit you had conflict in the past with me but chose to accept the mediator slot anyway is just the icing on the cake showing bad faith. DreamGuy 23:18, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

CoolBlue, in your entry in the draft RFAr, you've repeated the quote of DreamGuy's talk page comment that I had already in my section. You might want to amend. Dicklyon 02:46, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Someone took your comments out so that you can add it to the live RFAr and get a proper history; so please add it back again now (from User:Dicklyon/RFArDreamGuy to WP:RFAr) now that it's live. Dicklyon 17:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

RFAr on DreamGuy

edit

I removed your comments from the draft RFAr because I felt that, when it officially went live, your comments should be added to the live version by you and only you. This keeps the history trail clear of who said what, and helps remove possibility of mis-attribution of your comments. Dicklyon has now placed the RFAr live, so when you have the time I would encourage you to cut&paste your comments over there from the history of the draft page. - TexasAndroid 17:21, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cool_Blue, I have come to you before reporting vandalism. I have yet another person to report. I was reading some articles, gaining knowledge, when I came across a Donald Trump page with the starting sentence stating "Donald Trump is the f*****g man". I checked the history, only to find out that this person has been invovled in other, more disturbing, vandalism. I saw that he made an edit to South Philedalphia (I just saw it in his history) with a summary that had a very disturbing and very very very rude comment in it. His or her IP is 68.32.50.29

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Wahoo1.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Wahoo1.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Redirect of Pacific Northwest Cuisine

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Pacific Northwest Cuisine, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Pacific Northwest Cuisine is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Pacific Northwest Cuisine, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. US Airways / America West - Merger vs Acquisition (Round 2)

edit

Greetings. A long time ago, you were involved in this brief discussion regarding who acquired whom in the US Airways / America West merger. The question has been raised again here. Specifically, was there any particular source used to support the "America West acquired America West" view that prevailed after the last discussion? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Tcncv (talk) 03:15, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:DPD.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:DPD.gif.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Kent Simpson

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Kent Simpson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. – Nurmsook! talk... 16:17, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of College of Nursing

edit

A tag has been placed on College of Nursing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 04:10, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conducting research on WikiProjects

edit

We are professors at Carnegie Mellon University conducting research on how online groups operate, with a strong history of research on Wikipedia.

We would like to discuss collaborating with you with the goals of both improving integration of new members into your WikiProject as well as advancing the understanding of the science behind online groups.

Our recent research has shown that joining a WikiProject boosts editors' contributions to the project substantially, and that specific kinds of interactions between existing project members and newcomers encourage newcomers to contribute more and longer. We are now working on translating these findings into interventions that will increase the vitality of WikiProjects, helping them attract, motivate, and retain members who are knowledgeable and able to contribute to the project.

We have identified your project (Travel and Tourism) as an initial candidate that we would love to work with moving forward based on your participants and the amount of assessment work your project needs accomplished. Please feel free to contact me (Prof. Robert Kraut robert.kraut@cmu.edu) with any questions and to find out more.

Information about our research can be found at http://community.hciresearch.org/content/improving-socialization-newcomers-wikiprojects.

Thank you,

edit

Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 14:51, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh activity

edit

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussions at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active, and interested in contributing to Pittsburgh content or coming to our real life meetups to discuss Wikipedia in general. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:06, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

edit

Hi Cool Blue,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
