Population of Bulgaria pre-WWI
editHi there, you can find all the available census data here: http://www.nsi.bg/Census_e/Census_e.htm
In late 1910, the population of Bulgaria was 4,337,513. Todor→Bozhinov 09:03, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Re: A request for assistance
editHi, I'm really happy for the Bulgaria-related work on the Hebrew Wikipedia, I believe everyone somehow related to our country should be proud of that! I'm glad you've taken up such an ambitious project, and I very much like the name you've picked for it :) As for your question, from what I gather Zhekov was never Chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army (see a list here).
Bulgarian Encyclopedia A-YA and Electronic edition History of Bulgaria are equally unclear and call him "commander-in-chief of the operative army" just like the Bulgarian and the English Wikipedia. Encyclopedia of World War I calls him "commander-in-chief" and "commander of the Bulgarian army"; Bulgaria during the Second World War refers to him as "the World War I Bulgarian Commander", and Armies in the Balkans 1914-18 as "Commander of the Bulgarian Armed Forces".
All those lead me to the conclusion that, while surely not Chief of the General Staff, he was Commander of the (entire) Bulgarian Armed Forces during the war. He was certainly not the commander of a single field army.
I hope that was of use to you. Best regards, Todor→Bozhinov 15:11, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- very helpfull, thanks alot. --Assayas (talk) 17:05, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Димо Казасов
editHello again and sorry for the belated response! Thanks for another interesting article about Bulgaria in Hebrew :) Would you like the bit about him being Righteous among the Nations added to the Bulgarian Wikipedia article, or would you like me to write an article about him in English? All the best, — Toдor Boжinov — 10:47, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- hello again. Is it possible to ask both?. actually I have already written another 7 hebrew aricles about Righteous among the Nations from bulgaria: Cyril of Bulgaria, Стефан I (екзарх)- such an outstanding person deserves an english article, Dimitar Peshev, Петър Михалев, Иван Момчилов (политик), Асен Суичмезов and Владимир Куртев, whom we nickname "The 4 Knights from Kyustendil". I intend to write about all of them after finding written contents. thanks again, moti --Assayas (talk) 11:10, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- Allright then, so I will add the bit about Kazasov to the Bulgarian wiki and I'll try to devote some time to English articles about these truly great people. I have a few articles that I want to write first, but I'll keep these in mind :) Best, — Toдor Boжinov — 12:29, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

editHello Assayas, glad to hear from you! There is no article about Pantev on the Bulgarian Wikipedia. From what I managed to find out though, Pantev's first name was not Anton but Atanas. According to this article (continues here, he was killed by communist terrorist group The Black Angels in 1943 and was accused of being a fascist, and there's some further info on his life. In his autobiography, Bulgarian Jew Samuel Arditti seems to regard him as an anti-Semite as well. According to this book, he was indeed police director. This is a somewhat detailed account of the activity of The Black Angels, but there's little more about Pantev than confirmation that he was the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Appeal.
There's even a 1970 movie eponymously titled The Black Angels which might depict the murder of Pantev. Hope this was of some help! Best, — Toдor Boжinov — 17:18, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hello. thanks alot. most helpful. I wanted to write an hebrew article about him for along time, and now i have a start base. thak you again ! --Assayas (talk) 18:25, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Another thing. You may have already noticed, but Google Books lists a good deal of previewable books if you search for "Colonel Pantev" and "Atanas Pantev". As more authoritative sources, these may be of more help than the websites above. Best, — Toдor Boжinov — 21:05, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Re: A gratitude for you
editCongrats, my friend, I'm very glad to hear that your efforts have resulted in the "Bulgaria during World War I" Hebrew article reaching FA status! I had a look at it via Google Translate and it looks to be a very detailed, comprehensive and well illustrated piece. It's great that you have made such a valuable account on the history of Bulgaria available to Hebrew readers worldwide; to me, this wealth of freely available knowledge is Wikipedia's greatest asset.
Here's to more featured articles on Bulgaria and its Jewish history, both in Hebrew and in English! All the best and keep it up! :) — Toдor Boжinov — 21:32, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- Good evening and thanks again. Actually All my 3 FA articles are related to Bulgaria. The Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878) [1] and an article about the Jewish community in Plovdiv [2]. More will come. Indeed this free knowledge is its greatest asset. best. Assayas (talk) 21:55, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
The book "Видни евреи В България" edited by Биньямин Ардити
editHello, my friend, pleased to hear from you! The book seems like a valuable source, I would appreciate it if you send the pages about these historical figures: Herbst in particular is a very interesting figure about whom I've wanted to write an English article for a while. I can't promise that it would happen quickly because I try to spend my weekends away from a computer in the summer, but I'll definitely have it in mind and write an article! And I'm sure it could be the basis for a great Hebrew article too :)
I have sent you an e-mail via the E-mail this user function so that you have my e-mail contacts.
Best regards, — Toдor Boжinov — 08:14, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hello!. I will be delighted. In the afternoon it will be done. By the way, I have written an Hebrew article about yossif herbsts' brother, Karl herbst who was a prominent zionist figure in Bulgaria, so Did his half sister Regina Zilbershtein. here is a link: [3] Regards Assayas (talk) 10:51, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
- Intriguing! I had no idea about his brother. I was wondering how Joseph got to be an Ashkenazi born in Ardrianople... the family was originally from Czernowitz :) — Toдor Boжinov — 13:27, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

editHi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the David Schweitzer article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 07:25, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hello GiantSnowman and thank you for your remark. The late David Schweitzer coached Maccabi Jaffa in 1991/1992 season in the second devision. You can see the source here, but i do not know how to add it to the english article. Assayas (talk) 08:53, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

- Hello again GiantSnowman, and thanks again. I have sources in Hebrew. For Example an article from Hadashot dated 15 march 1992, that covered the match between Maccabi Jaffa and Hapoel Haifa F.C., ended in adraw 1-1. The head line is "Even Schweitzer was satisfied with the ability of his trainees from Jaffa". another source is a book about Maccabi Jaffa: Baruch Furman, Haydeh Bi Haydeh bo, The rise, fall and re-establishment of Maccabi Jaffa, Tirosh publishing house, Tel-Aviv, 2020, page 145. regards Assayas (talk) 08:34, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hebrew-language sources are absolutely fine; I have updated the article with that information and sources. Many thanks for your help. GiantSnowman 10:23, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
