Disambiguation link notification for December 14
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Thomas Fire, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page KCLU (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Frank Welker
I do have a reference but I am reluctant to put it up even though it is a prerequisite for inclusion in Wikipedia because it contains his personal information i.e. home address and telephone number and I don't want to cause an invasion of privacy. I'll try to find something else that I can use without compromising Mr. Welker's privacy. YborCityJohn (talk) 00:55, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello YborCityJohn Please pay attention to notability. While he may be a notable person, every place he lived is not notable. Also, once a person is notable for a certain city, it is not lost because they move. Where a person is born and a city where they are active enough in a community to be mentioned in the newspaper can be notable. If you want to promote the biography of a person, look to what they did and find relevant articles, don't try to track down where they happen to live. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 01:31, 29 December 2017 (UTC) PS. This discussion does belong on the subject page because that is what this is about. This is nothing personal about me, it is about the place or subject and other interested editors should be able to join in.

Thomas Fire Fatality Numbers
Hi. I got a notification that you reverted my edits to the articles, Thomas Fire and List of California wildfires. I do not consider the deaths caused by the Montecito mudslides as fatalities under the Thomas Fire. Even though the mudslides and the fire have a connection, the mudslides is a different event and the deaths caused by the mudslides weren't caused by the fire itself. In total, the fatalities for the fire is 2, not 23.
I am not saying that there should not be a section that is about the mudslides in the Thomas Fire article; I actually do think that it's important. But, I wouldn't include the fatalities caused by the mudslides into the fatalities section of the template at the beginning of the Thomas Fire article and the templates in the “List of California Wildfires” article.
Thanks for your understanding.

@101.178.163.19:The sentence just seemed like a random factoid inserted at the end of a paragraph. The bare url made it look like not much care was given to the edit. Citation template on Umoja Village
You placed a {{Citation style}} on Umoja Village. I think that is the wrong template. The existing references seem to have a consistent style. I think that the proper templates that you should use are the {{Unreferenced section}} & {{Citation needed}} templates instead.
Would you please rectify that?

Catherine Bracy
Hi,
I implore you to read the "Techequity" website. It clearly advocates for changing the California tax code. Since this lady leads that organization, I'm not sure why the claim she is a political operative needs a reference. If an organization seeks changes to the tax code, that makes it a political organization, and that makes Ms. Bracy a political operative!
Please point out where my reasoning is faulty. I am trying to improve articles in this space, and I thought this article masqueraded this organization and person as "technologists" seeking to "open technology". Uh, no. It's 100% political/lobbying.

Ventura County Articles
Hi Fettlemap, as a longtime reader of your efforts on articles relevant to this area, I was wondering if you knew of any articles that need some work.DalBhatRotiShak (talk) 19:04, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- @DalBhatRotiShak: Thanks for reaching out. All the Ventura Co. City articles could use work on history, IMHO. If I had more time, I would work on those and incorporate the places on the Ventura City and County Designated Landmarks into the city articles besides improving the articles on each landmark if I had more time. Edits need a reliable reference so many of the existing references can be used to expand or used on another city that is also mentioned. There are several good history books on county history at the library that could be used. I have to admit, I am a avid consumer of news so I am triggered to improve an article, not by the headline news but by the background the article provides. Thank you for your contributions to the California housing shortage article!
Hello! I wanted to thank you for your contributions to the California housing shortage article, it is helpful to have other editors look at the article and add references and improvements.
You are right about the lead not adequately summarizing the article, thank you for pointing that out!!! I will add a summary of the many causes in the Causes section, and add some of CA's legislative responses to the last paragraph in the lead. And move the large paragraph talking about the prices in different markets to farther down in the article.
Thanks again! ---Avatar317(talk) 22:35, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Avatar317:, I appreciate all the editing you have done for the article. The problem seems to be that the article was originally written like an essay stating a point of view at a particular time. It obviously needs to be an on-going article that is continually updated as the state struggles with the problem. It took decades for the problem to get this bad and so it won't be easy. The updates will wax and wane but this seems like a particular moment when the issue is getting lots of legislative attention and lots of press. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 22:44, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for Ventura contributions
I've done some myself, including on the Thomas fire and created the Tuqan Man article. The latter burial was found on San Miguel Island, but that was the western part of Santa Rosae Island, of which Anacapa is the easternmost remaining relic. I lost an acquaintance on the AK flight. Thanks also for reverting most of the vandalism on the Homestead article. That had almost certainly been done by a COI editor, as the IP address locates to there. Cooper donuts riot
Hi, Fettlemap, thanks for your efforts cleaning up the spelling of Cooper Donuts (or Do-nuts) at Drag Queen, Stonewall riots and various other articles after the name change at the article. I had to revert the name change at the article because it was an undiscussed, controversial move, so it's back to the old name again, pending discussion to gain consensus for the change. There's no need to undo any of your clean-up changes, they're all fine for now, but I'd hold off making any new ones. After the move discussion, if the consensus is no hyphen, then you're good, and there's nothing to do; so I'd just wait it out. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:16, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, and thanks on adding the {{Welcome}} message to InkyBlueCheetah; that was going to be my next stop, after this one. Instead, I'll just leave a gentle message about the change. Mathglot (talk) 23:22, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

The Edit summary is the main way editors communicate and a well written edit summary is a good explanation of the edit(s). If more discussion is needed, the Wikipedia protocol says move on to the talk page for the article. Please don't take edit comments personally and try to discuss on a editor's talk page. If you have some information on how the impacts of non-operating rail versus abandonment, I would be pleased to consider that on the article talk page. Naming of Basilica of Mission San Buenaventura
Hello Barnstar, The elevation of Mission San Buenaventura to Minor Basicilica was announced this morning prrior to Mass by Archbishop Jose Gomez at the direction of the Holy Father Pope Francis. At the time of the news, I was unable to locate a published statement, however here is one citation since.
I appreciate your help since I am new to this. What further should I do to reinstate this information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aw525 (talk • contribs) 21:00, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Aw525:: Hello Aw525,
While this a significant honor within the Catholic Church, the Wikipedia article will not change much. For the name change, guidance on official names is relevant. Unless the name becomes commonly used, the title of the article and the name in the first (lead) paragraph will not change. I updated the lead after finding the article but did not have a chance to add the citation. I would suggest adding an explanation to the end of the history section along with the citation. I will provide more general information on your talk page. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 22:36, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your warm welcome. I see now after reading the policy that there is a preference for common names even if they differ from official names. Naturally this can not be a common name yet as it is brand new, however to help me understand, why is there this exception? https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Mission_Basilica_San_Juan_Capistrano Aw525 (talk) 23:46, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
There are two articles that are related but distinct. They are distinguished with a hat note (small print before the lead). Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano is the present-day parish and church completed in 1986. Mission San Juan Capistrano is the former Spanish mission founded in 1776 currently used as a chapel and museum. They are related and adjacent on the same site but a clear distinction is made between them. Fettlemap (talk) 04:49, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
See the article on Mission San Diego de Alcalá. Interesting that it doesn't mention the basilica status. It is a category at the very bottom. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 05:06, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Del Mar, California revert of Bill Gates purchase
It takes about 15 seconds to confirm that there are reasonably credible reports to support the claim of Bill Gates purchase of a home in north Del Mar. So rather than revert the edit, wouldn't it be better to take those 15 seconds to establish that the claim is seemingly plausible, and if you don't want to be bothered actually validating the citation and adding it (which is understandable), just add a citation needed tag, assuming the real issue is the lack of a citation. Previously, under similar circumstances (and I'm not pointing any fingers), I will identify a source and add the citation, only to have the editor who objected to the lack of a citation raise some other objection that has nothing to do with the citation I provided, which should be obvious results in a significantly annoying waste of time. Yes, the meaning is straight forward in contemporary Spanish. But it is neither a matter of ignoring history nor facile. The purpose of article talk pages is to discuss the content of articles. That way, all interested editors can comment. If you want to make sure an editor sees the discussion, you can WP:PING them in your comment or leave a short message on their talk page mentioning the discussion. If a user is making similar problem edits on many articles, then it may be appropriate to discuss on the user talk page. Fettlemap (talk) 15:11, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Are you stalking my edits? ;)
Hi Fettlemap,
I really dislike seeing those "redirected" captions when you click on a place link, and also that people unnecessarily add the state to a major city link (e.g. Dallas, New Orleans, San Antonio, St. Louis). Often the context doesn't need the state to be named. Since you apparently have a different approach than mine, what do you think of leaving Missouri out, for those Illinois places with St. Louis links for which you reverted my edits?

I just noticed something quite annoying about Fernley, Nevada. Back in 2013, a user made their only two edits to Wikipedia, both to Fernley, here. Problem is, this is a 100% cut-and-paste from the city of Fernley's website. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 22:22, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- @JPgordon:, I noticed a lot of unsourced detail, I should have been more suspicious. I can work on it. Thanks Fettlemap (talk) 23:51, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Joaquin Arambula
I had noticed that the Joaquin Arambula article did not mention his arrest on suspicion of child abuse or his acquittal. I added a paragraph about it.
While working on it, I noticed there were a couple of references in the article but with no text to go with them. After I edited, I checked the edit history, and saw you had inserted them. I thought you'd want to know that the article now includes information you had linked to, and I moved your links in the article to the paragraph. Alden Loveshade (talk) 20:19, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Santa Clara River template
I understand your substitution of Valencia, California for Newhall Ranch, but I'm puzzled as to why you removed Stevenson Ranch, California from the watershed template. Thewellman (talk) 20:59, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
@Thewellman:, I should have checked the drainage but it didn't seem to relate to the river. It is quite distance from the river. Please put it back if it was a mistake. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 21:18, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Done. No worries. Lake Piru is even more distant from the river, yet both drain into the river; so when one considers runoff from things like sewage spills or agricultural pesticide drainage, the drainage divide becomes significant from the Los Angeles River to the south. Title of article to be plural "Genocides" not "Genocide"
User:Fettlemap There were a series of genocides of different indigenous nations over centuries, not a single genocide. Thus the article should be named Genocides of indigenous peoples (plural). Suppose for example that in Asia there were a number of genocides. We would not call it genocide of Asian people. The genocides took place in different centuries, to different indigenous groups or nations, in different parts of the world. There is no single Asia. There is no single 'indigenous peoples'. Citation style
It's not my intention that you jump through hoops explaining why you chose one citation template over another, as here [1]. I do wish you'd stop fussing with existing templates, but as long as the source information is improved by your changes then fine.
You did forget to include the page number in that citation, though... (A joke, Fettlemap--anyone who's citing sources is OK in my book.) Yappy2bhere (talk) 23:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Yappy2bhere:,
It seemed pretty obvious you didn't look carefully at the edit but quickly reverted one of your pet peeves as Condé Nash was changed from author to publisher and the last citation was repaired with the edit. Your edit summary made it appear that you were unfamiliar with cite web since a majority of citations have some link. Thanks for letting me know I don't have to leave long edit summaries. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 00:13, 26 August 2021 (UTC)- Familiar enough to know that a magazine is a print work or facsimile with a linear organization that can be referenced by page number, in contrast to a web site such as Pitchfork (website) in which even individual articles are not usually paginated and which can not be referenced with a linear designator such as a page number. How about you? Yappy2bhere (talk) 00:24, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

Ongoing discussion on Talk:Silicon Valley
Hi Fettlmap! I am reaching out because I know you edit a great deal on topics concerning California. There is an important ongoing discussion at Talk:Silicon Valley#RfC: Inclusion criteria of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara Valley and Santa Clara County, California concerning whether Silicon Valley is a region or just a conceptual topic and whether it should be regarded as such both in its article and in references to it across Wikipedia. I invite you to join the discussion and present your thoughts on the matter, as more opinions are sorely needed to build anytime of understanding or consensus. Guidance
I see where you used the undo function to remove my edit on Tallassee, Alabama with the comment "The article is about the city, not individuals lacking notability." I am not an experienced user, so I will trust your judgement over mine on this. I must admit to some confusion about the situation, though, and I would love some guidance.
The edit was in a section specifically about politics in an area talking about this individual's accomplishments as mayor. He may not be a nationally notable person, but he is notable enough in the city to already be mentioned in this section. He is even displayed in the existing picture in this section.
You also state, "Wikipedia is not a newspaper, this has nothing to do with the official duties of the mayor," but this entire section has nothing to do with the official duties of the mayor. It is a section dedicated to the political history of the city that already mentions the current mayor's accomplishments.
I have no desire to vandalize any pages, so I will not be making any more changes to the page unless I receive guidance. I just genuinely do not understand how it is not relevant to the given section. Please advise. Tpentecost (talk) 01:22, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
Tpentecost, this section of Tallassee is an excellent example of poorly edited section. As you can see, the section has been flagged for not having any references. This is a warning to readers not to trust this information until it has been improved. In this case, there may be three sentences worth keeping and the rest could be deleted. Good articles are tagged on Wikipedia so editors can use them as examples. For guidance, see US Cities Guidelines. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 02:52, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification. You can delete this section from your talk page whenever you are ready to. Cheers! Tpentecost (talk) 03:48, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
Question about Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Jr. page
Hello Fettlemap,
Thanks for reaching out and providing me with the information. I'm new to Wikipedia and I to start off, I have one question about Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Jr.'s page: Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow, Jr.. I noticed that his page does not have an image of himself or basic information box. Do you know where to go to find a generic image of him that is free to use, or one that I could ask permission to use?
I'm learning how Wikipedia works step by step. Thanks, Archivingperson (talk) 05:44, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
Archivingperson, this is not an area of my expertise but I would suggest seeing MOS:IMAGES. I have added a few photos of my own but have not tried to obtain photos from other sources. All the best, Fettlemap (talk) 14:50, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi: Question about [2]. The text refers to an earlier Gregory book Southern Diaspora, so did you mean to change it to a different book, with the same page? -- Alanscottwalker (talk) 16:15, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
I thought I fixed it. I will check. Fettlemap (talk) 16:49, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, but looking at that section, it begins "in [the book] Southern Diaspora" Gregory gives, etc' . . . but then it now does not cite to the book Southern Diaspora (2005) - which it use to do - it cites to a chapter of a later book in 2009, So that is rather confusing. Alanscottwalker (talk) 18:31, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Alanscottwalker, Thanks for checking the article. I see what you mean, but that is how I found it before I started editing. I don't have the books and since it gives a page number, I hesitate to change it. It is possible the latter book references the earlier. While I was improving the citations format, I was careful not to change any content. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 22:43, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Murder of Larry King
I have applied protection to the article for 7 days, without prejudice to which version is "right", and have asked the new editor, Therealkagome, to take the issue to the talk page. I am asking you to do the same before this escalates into a full blown edit war, which may have unfortunate consequences. I see that the issue of King's gender/sexuality has been discussed before without consensus being reached but it may be that it needs to be revisited. Thank you. - I started this discussion. The edit warring needs to end. I don't understand how you can call material "contested" when it hasn't even been discussed. But, since this is wikipedia, I am bracing mayself for being completely wrong. Forgive me if I am wrong. I just chose an action that would introduce an unbiased opinion to end this warring. yours, HedgeHogPower (talk) 23:07, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
HedgeHogPower, please start the discussion in the Rick Caruso Talk page by reading the links in my edit summary since by reverting my edit, you must take the lead in explaining the content per Wikipedia guidelines. If you want me to start, revert the information you added to the page. Fettlemap (talk) 23:24, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- It has already been reverted. But please explain in plain English how a topic can be considered "contested" before it is even discussed. I just cannot wrap my head around it. I will make a post on the Caruso talk page, but I am less concerned with the actual material than with (sorry to belabor this) how it can be considered "contested" before any discussion. HedgeHogPower (talk) 23:34, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- I have posted my thoughts on the Caruso issue on the talk page. yours, HedgeHogPower (talk) 00:02, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Antioch CA
The edit I made was not only based on my 37 years in this town, by with research from the Antioch Historical Society. A group is trying to tarnish Antioch to support their political agenda. Calling Antioch a Sundown Town based on a single inaccurate article, that was repeated by the current mayor, is wrong and libelous. The fire in question was city wide and although the Chinese section of town was burned, other homes and businesses were burned down as well. The only ordinate in effect at this time was over the opium trade in the area, and prostitution was also an issue. Have you looked at Calif Governor John Biger and his Chinese policies? The County of Contra Costa controlled the Antioch area before it was incorporated, and they also had policies against Chinese land ownership and other rules. I’m waiting for a report from the Antioch Historical Society then I’ll be sharing that with you shortly. Until then, this Wikipedia page needs to be edited by you. Are you connected to any person in Antioch? BCD1824 (talk) 04:11, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Are you willing to hear the other side, you know, the side with opposing information, or is this a waste of my time? If not you, who should I contact? BCD1824 (talk) 00:55, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- @BCD1824:; I am sure the article can be improved. The lead is a summary of the article and that definitely needs improvement; for one, it is too short. You can't use just personal experience to edit Wikipedia but your local knowledge can help find and interpret reliable sources. Please look at some of the resources in the Welcome on your talk page. When you are ready, go ahead and edit by using and citing reliable sources. If you want to discuss anything, start a discussion on the talk page of the article so other editors can join in. It may be challenging but you are not wasting your time. We are not on opposite sides as I agree that the sentence can be improved or drastically changed. That one edit] was just not an improvement. Fettlemap (talk) 05:28, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
The previous articles are inaccurate, let Wikipedia allowed them to stand. They are interpretations of things that happen over 150 years ago. I have a full copy of the founder of Antioch‘s diary and other documentations that I’m going to be providing in the next couple weeks. It’s really a shame that Antioch’s history is boils down to reporters with an agenda. Thanks for responding. BCD1824 (talk) 06:00, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Brookfield Controversies
Hi Fettlemap. I am a disclosed editor and work for Brookfield Asset Management. I noticed that you removed a newly added section called "Controversies" and a link to the main Brookfield Asset Management article on the Brookfield Infrastructure Partners article. This exact same edit, that you called "unnecessary...and a bit silly" was also added to the following related articles: Brookfield Renewable Partners; Brookfield Business Partners; and Brookfield Property Partners. Opinion Wanted for Uinta Basin Rail
Fettlemap, I see you're taking an interesting in the article Uinta Basin Rail. I by no means was one of the original editors of this article, but took an interest in it and decided to take it to GAC, which it eventually has. There are two facts that I think are kinda neat that are not currently in the article. I have resisted adding them, because while they are cool to me, I'm not sure they are relevant in the big picture (which is why I'm asking you for a 2nd opinion). Another factor is that I'm concerned the article already dedicates a lot of space to discussing the Craig alternative, especially given it was eliminated (though to be fair it was still being actively considered when the article was first nominated for GAC. That was a post-GAC nomination development to the story) So here goes:
The article briefly touches that once Rio Grand Pacific became the project lead, they considered 29 routes, 26 from the UDOT study and 3 routes that were surveyed over 100 years ago. They gave serious consideration to two of these 100 year old surveys. An alternative they called the Aventiquin Canyon option was based on the line surveyed by the Denver and Rio Grande Western in the 1910s. It remained in the running until I believe the list was culled down to 8. The Craig alternative is a modified version of the Denver and Salt Lake's route from the East, surveyed in 1902. This is implied but not explicitly stated. (the modification was to take advantage of two sets of railroad track that exist today, but did not exist in 1902, the Deseret Power Railway mentioned in the article and a spur to a coal mine southwest of Craig) As stated in the article the Craig alternative was active until the list was cut from 4 to 3. The D&SL line from the west was called the Hobble Creek alternative, but was quickly eliminated, not even seriously considered. Hobble Creek canyon today is partly preserved, part used for municipal water by various cities near Provo, has a golf course in a wide spot of the canyon, and part has million dollar homes built throughout. For those reasons, Hobble Creek was quickly deemed to no longer be a viable right of way.
Thoughts? Cool and worthy of inclusion or undue weight given to options that are no longer being considered? Dave (talk) 06:35, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
I haven't read the citations for the routes that are no longer being considered but when if you want to add some interesting aspects, it may be time to trim and rearrange for a better narrative. Another thought is to add this content to the relevant subject article. That they were once considered for a railroad can be an interesting aspect on how different it could have been and draw people to the railroad article. My addition to the tribal partner's page is an example of that. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 13:54, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. Thanks. There is no article (yet) for Avintiquin Canyon, but I'll add it to Hobble Creek. Dave (talk) 05:36, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
