I am categorizing these FLs by six types. Please note that I only think the FLs in A, B or F should be delisted. The rest I am noting more for curiosities sake.
It's important to note that these are just the lists in which I see immediate problems. If a page is not listed here, it does not necessarily mean that I think it's perfectly fine (there are a lot of minor issues like small leads, improperly formatted references out there that weren't listed).
Feel free to add any list you think fits in with the types. However, please make sure you add your signature. I would appreciate it if users could avoid commenting on this page until I finish.
- Key
- Type A: FLs that may not be needed. These are lists that were split off from another page for questionable reasons. Neither the main page or the FL are particularily long and some of the FLs have questionable notability.
- Type B: Lists that recreate the content of another page with a little additional info.
- Type C: FLs that are more article than list.
- Type D: FLs that could be merged with another page (but not necessarily delisted).
- Type E: Very short lists.
- Type F: Other concerns.
Art and architecture
editFor the most part, the tallest buildings pages are a very well-maintained group of lists. A few minor issues here and there, like improperly formatted refs. I'm still not sure if List of tallest buildings and structures in Salford is notable and does List of tallest buildings in Portland, Oregon really need to have (Image) in ever row? Why not just incorporate the images into the table? In List of tallest buildings in Seattle, the least clearly states the the Space Needle is not ranked because it is not a building, yet it is included in the "Timeline of tallest buildings" section (I actually brought this up in the FLC and it was fixed, but I guess it's been reverted).
- Type F
- Grade I listed buildings in Bristol - No sections, awkwardly formatted list of images. It should be re-formatted to look like Grade I listed buildings in Greater Manchester.
Media
editIn regards to the episode lists, there seems to be no set standard, almost every one (especially the anime lists) uses a different type of formatting. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just might help if things were more uniform.
- Type A
- Type B
- 30 Rock (season 1), 30 Rock (season 2) and 30 Rock (season 3) - The tables are pretty much exact recreations of List of 30 Rock episodes and I'm not entirely sure that they can't be merged together.
- The Office (US TV series) season 1, The Office (US TV series) season 2, The Office (US TV series) season 3 and The Office (US TV series) season 4 - List of The Office (U.S. TV series) episodes consists of these four lists transcluded onto the page.
- Type C
- Type D
- Type E
- List of FLCL episodes - On the short side (six items). It is beefed up by very long plot summaries that would be considered too long in most other lists.
- Type F
- List of awards and nominations received by No Country for Old Men - Very poorly formatted table.
- Timeline of Australian television - A number of unsourced entries, subject to Recentism, a few questionable sources such as this one.
- List of actors nominated for Academy Awards for foreign language performances - Per WP:NOT#INFO.
- List of actors nominated for two Academy Awards in the same year - "" ""
Music
edit- Type A
A question: Does the band actually receive awards for videos? For example, if an artist won an MTV Video award for "Best editing", would the editor not be the one to receive the award and not the artist? So would it not be a mistake to include such awards in the list of awards won by that artist?
- List of awards and nominations received by Arcade Fire - Less clear cut than the others, but the main Arcade Fire article is not particularily long.
- List of awards and nominations received by Arctic Monkeys - Again, less clear cut. It has 30 items, but over half are magazine awards, so is a seperate page really needed when you have to stretch so far to fill it up?
- List of awards and nominations received by Feist
- List of awards and nominations received by Gorillaz
- List of awards and nominations received by Norah Jones
- List of awards and nominations received by Slipknot - See the entry for the Arctic Monkeys.
- List of Dream Theater band members - Has had ten or less members and the member history is not particularily complex. List of Nine Inch Nails live-band members is justified because it has more members and a more complex history (although I would like to see that one converted to a table).
- Type E
- Type F
- Dischord Records discography - Doesn't appear to have been updated since 2007.
- List of Telecaster players Several improperly formatted references, some unsourced statements, some uses of what appear to be fansites (ie. [1])
- List of major opera composers - Short lead, some unsourced entries.
- Some questionable and poorly formatted references.
- Very small lead, few sources, not up to the standards of the newer discography FLs.
- John Frusciante discography - Some unreferenced statements.
- Nile discography - Completely unsourced lead (and those statements are not sourced in the body of the text either)
- Sepultura discography - "" ""
- Red Hot Chili Peppers discography - Format needs to be brought in line with the current standard.
Transport
edit- Type F
- Locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal - No sections, no citations in the lead.
Sports and recreation
editAmerican football
editI am not going to include all of the "List of [team] first-round draft picks" lists here. I believe they are unnecessary forks, but some of them are long enough to not be Type As.
- Type A
- List of Carolina Panthers first-round draft picks
- List of Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft picks
- Sort of-Type A
- What stops these from being real type As is the fact that most of their teams don't even have a full draft history page. When most teams don't even have a full list of all draft picks, you know there's a problem.
- Type B
- 2002 NFL Expansion Draft - Largely re-creates the table from Houston Texans draft history, the only difference being the addition of a "Salary Cap Figure" column.
- Type C
- Type D
- List of Green Bay Packers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame - This one could be merged into a "List of Green Bay Packers award winners". We have several similar hockey lists, like this one.
- List of Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterbacks - Could be merged into History of Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks
- Tad excessive, no? Could these not all be merged into a "List of Michigan Wolverines All-Time leaders"?
- Type E
- List of Kansas City Chiefs head coaches (ten items)
- Type F
- List of Chicago Bears head coaches - Tagged with {{cleanup-colours}}
- List of Cleveland Browns first-round draft picks - Tagged with {{cleanup-colours}}
- I added symbols to these two. Giants2008 (17-14) 18:24, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- 2005 NCAA Division I-A football rankings and 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football rankings - Tagged with {{cleanup-colours}} and very ugly lists. Is wikipedia really meant to be a dumping ground for NCAA ranking stats?
Football (soccer)
edit- Type D
- List of Ipswich Town F.C. Players of the Year - Could go into List of Ipswich Town F.C. players.
- List of Norwich City F.C. Players of the Year - Could go into List of Norwich City F.C. players. Also should be sorted chronologically.
- List of York City F.C. Clubmen of the Year - Could go into List of York City F.C. players.
- List of UEFA Cup winning managers - Into List of UEFA Cup winners.
- List of UEFA Cup Winners' Cup winning managers - Into List of UEFA Cup Winners' Cup winners.
- List of UEFA Intertoto Cup winning managers - Into List of UEFA Intertoto Cup winners.
- List of UEFA Super Cup winning managers - Into List of UEFA Super Cup winners.
- Type F
- Not up to current standards, lacks citations. I'd like to see it brought up to the standards of List of Birmingham City F.C. players or List of Birmingham City F.C. players.
- Ipswich Town F.C. seasons - Few citations, several unattributed statements.
- Margate F.C. seasons - All of the footnotes should have citations.
- West Bromwich Albion F.C. seasons - "" ""
- List of Liverpool F.C. statistics and records - The lists in the honours section could be converted into table format.
- Manchester United F.C. records and statistics - "" ""
- Swedish football champions - "" ""
- List of Central Coast Mariners FC players - Tagged with {{update}}
- List of Queensland Roar FC players - Tagged with {{Missing information}}
Baseball
edit- Type A
- List of members of the Baseball Hall of Fame by date of induction
- Milestone home runs by Barry Bonds - I was hesitant when I promoted this one, and I still don't like it as it has a very poor criteria. For example, would home runs 757-762 not be milestones because they furthered the record? Wouldn't every home run he hit during his 73 home run season be considered a milestone? I think this could be merged into Barry Bonds.
- Type D
- I believe the following lists could all be merged with their corresponding players lists. I did not include any of the longer ones, because they may be long enough to justify a split.
- List of Arizona Diamondbacks Opening Day starting pitchers
- List of Colorado Rockies Opening Day starting pitchers
- List of Florida Marlins Opening Day starting pitchers
- List of Seattle Mariners Opening Day starting pitchers
- List of Tampa Bay Rays Opening Day starting pitchers
- List of Toronto Blue Jays Opening Day starting pitchers
- Type E
- Arizona Diamondbacks seasons
- Tampa Bay Rays seasons
- List of Philadelphia Phillies no-hitters (nine items)
Basketball
edit- Type D
- Why can't these pages be expanded to contain the entire draft history of that team?
Cricket
edit- Type F
- List of Cricket World Cup records - Not up to current standards.
- List of One Day International cricket records - "" ""
- Test cricket hat-tricks - "" ""
- List of Test cricket triple centuries - No citations.
Ice hockey
editI'm not going to include them here, but most of the NHL trophy pages could use bigger leads and in some cases the refs need to be properly formatted. (It's worth noting that I did nominate several of them, so if anyone thinks I'm being too easy on them, let me know).
- Type D
- List of Calder Cup champions -> Calder Cup
- List of goaltenders who have scored a goal in an NHL game - Could go into goaltender, but I think the topic is notable since a goalie scoring usually generates headlines (although I may be biased).
- Type E
- Type F
- List of Columbus Blue Jackets players - Not up to current standards.
- List of San Jose Sharks players - "" ""
- List of Tampa Bay Lightning players - Doesn't appear to have been updated for the 2007-08 season.
- List of family relations in the NHL - I don't like that incomplete tag at the top. Dynamic FLs are usually okay, but in this case it's pretty specific: NHL players with family relations, so I don't see any reason why it should be incomplete.
- List of drafted Frölunda HC players - Lacks citations.
- All of these are on my list of hockey FLs that need upgrading following an audit of my own, and I have been working through fixing them up - about halfway done now. The one exception to my list is list of family relations. I think that template could be removed, as I suspect the potential for incompleteness is alluding to the early century players for whom there may not be reliable family histories available. Motorsport
edit- Type F
- Lack citations
Professional wrestling
edit- Type C
- Royal Rumble - I see this one as an article that just happens to have a large table in it.
- WWE No Way Out - Same as above, although there is less prose to this one.
- Type F
- NWA World Women's Championship - Several questionable references, including "Cagematch.de"
Misc.
edit- Type C
- Type F
- Mark of the Year - Tagged with {{disputed}}
- Super 12 champions - No general ref, a dead external link and ref to what appears to be a fan site.
- List of winners of the Boston Marathon - Lack of citations. I also think it would be very useful if the mens and womens tables could be combined into one.
Video gaming
edit- Type C
- List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow - It's a great article, one of the best character pages out there, but I don't think it's a list. (Although not short, it does only have 10 items).
- Type D
- List of songs in Guitar Hero, List of songs in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, List of songs in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s - Neither this list or the main article are long. However, I think the rest of the GH lists are more justified due to length, so this one might be excuseable for consistancy.
- Type F
- List of Castlevania media - Some unsourced statements in the lead.
- List of Kingdom Hearts media - Several decorative fair use images.
- List of Kirby media - Is File:Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.jpeg really free use? It's main focus is the image of a copyrighted chracter (and images of Homer Simpson slippers are considered fair use, so how could this be okay?)
- List of Nintendo 64 games - Needs to be brought up to current standards.
- List of voice actors in the Grand Theft Auto series - I think this one would be a lot more useful if it were made sortable.
Geography
edit- Type F
- List of areas in the United States National Park System - Not up to current standards. I would like to see it switched to a table format similar to List of National Parks of Canada.
- List of tributaries of Larrys Creek - I can't help but question the notability of this one. If it were List of tributaries of the Mississippi River, then maybe.
Places
editJust a general comment about the lists of counties, some of them need to be brought up to current standards. For example, List of counties in Arizona is of noticeable lesser quality than List of counties in Kentucky.
- Type C
- Type E
- List of counties in Hawaii (5 items)
- List of counties in Connecticut (8 items)
- List of counties in Rhode Island (5 items)
- List of counties in New Hampshire (10 items)
- Type F
- List of U.S. states by population - No citations, a lot of unreferenced prose.
- List of Canadian provinces and territories by area - Not up to current standards. The three tables should be merged into one.
- Municipalities of Lithuania - Not up to current standards.
- List of state and union territory capitals in India - No citations.
- Administrative and municipal divisions of Adygea - Very poorly formatted, you could almost say it's more article than list.
- Provinces of the Philippines - Another one with poor formatting. I think it could almost be split off into List of provinces of the Philippines.
Military and military history
edit- Type F
- Army Groups of the National Revolutionary Army - Unusual table formatting, could do without the colouring.
- Order of battle at the Glorious First of June - All of the notes should have citations.

Language and linguistics

- List of Tokyo Mew Mew chapters (nine items) - "" ""
- List of Yotsuba&! chapters (eight items) - "" ""
- Type F
- List of works by Joseph Priestley - Needs citations and what is the point of having —. before every line? (same with several similar FLs)
- List of Oz books - No citations.
Biology
edit- Type F
- Most of the bird lists could use more citations. I like the table format used in List of birds of Thailand, it might not hurt to use it in the others.
- List of cetaceans - There are a number of notes that don't appear to have any citation for them.
- List of Testudines families - Needs to be brought up to current standards, lack of citations, small lead, etc.
Chemistry and mineralogy

- Timeline of chemistry - Could this one be converted to table format?

- Extreme points of Bulgaria - Seven items, could be merged with Geography of Bulgaria.
- Extreme points of Sweden - Eight items, could be merged with Geography of Sweden.

Meteorology
editGenerally a nice group of lists. I'm wondering if some of them, such as List of Connecticut tornadoes, List of Snow events in Florida and List of Delaware hurricanes could be converted into tables.
Physics and astronomy

- Amateur Achievement Award of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific - Needs to be brought up to current standards.
Religion, mysticism and mythology
edit- Type E
- List of encyclicals of Pope John XXIII (eight items)
- Type F
- List of Church of England dioceses - Needs to be brought up to current standards, small lead, no citations, improperly formatted references.
- List of popes (graphical) - Not sure what the point of this list is, could be merged with the list of popes.
Business, economics and finance
edit- Type D
- List of mergers and acquisitions by Condé Nast - Could be merged into Condé Nast.
- Type F
- List of acquisitions by eBay - Not up to current standards.
- Euro gold and silver commemorative coins (Belgium) - A lot of fair use images. I think they are justified, but FU images in lists is a touchy subject, so I included it here.
Culture and society
editThe Lists of gay, lesbian or bisexual people are often showing up in the cleanup listing for questionable sources and unsourced statements. I decided not to include them here, but they should be watched.
- Type D
- List of inductees of Canada's Walk of Fame - Could be merged with Canada's Walk of Fame.
- List of DanceSport dances - Could be merged with Dancesport.
- Type F
- List of Kentucky state symbols - Not up to current standards.

- Type F
- List of Athabasca University people - The list of people with honorary degrees should have its own table, similar to List of Wilfrid Laurier University people.
Law
edit- Type F
- Chief Justice of the Common Pleas - Needs to be brought up to current standards.
- High Courts of India - Needs to be brought up to current standards, few citations, unnecessary colouring in the tables.

- List of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States by time in office - Small lead, no citations, etc.

Opinions from other editors
editDabomb87's opinions
editOf course, the brutal irony is that I supported most of these lists' promotion to FL status.
- Type A
List of female Nobel laureates Is it really necessary to split off lists of laureates by gender (and potentially race)?Struck after discussion with User:Sephiroth BCR.- Extreme points of Sweden – An interesting and well-structured list, but is it necessary? The body of the list could easily be merged into Geography of Sweden. Same goes for Extreme points of India and Extreme points of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian and Swedish lists don't even have ten items.
- List of Nobel Laureates affiliated with the City University of New York – Quite ironic as I supported every one of these that have come through FLC, including two a week ago. However, the "by university" method could lead to dozens of content forks. We could just add a column to the main laureates list titled "University affiliation". The rest are under Wikipedia:Featured lists#Nobel Laureates affiliated with schools.
- List of female United States Cabinet Secretaries, List of African American United States Cabinet Secretaries, List of foreign-born United States Cabinet Secretaries – I find it ironic that these three are FLs while the main list, List of United States Cabinets is quite inferior. Again, is there a need to create lists by gender, race and nationality?

- 2008 WWE Draft - I think since the article is about the Draft, and not who was drafted (the only lists), it should probably be an article.
- Not necessarily, see the NFL Draft lists.--Best, ₮RUCӨ 14:56, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Then add the NFL Draft lists here. iMatthew // talk // 16:13, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree because all sport drafts revolve around the selections, and it would be redundant to make a List of 2008 NFL Draft selections list. Just because the list may have a bit more prose due to the background does not make it any less than a list. Same thing with the WWE Draft: yes its scripted and fake and whatnot, but it revolves around the selections like other sport drafts.--Best, ₮RUCӨ 16:50, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

- Royal Rumble - The list is about the events, and unless the article was titled "List of Royal Rumble events", it's about the Royal Rumble, not a list of the events.
- WWE No Way Out - Same as above

edit- Type A
- Ashlee Simpson discography - There has been a lot of criticism directed at short artist awards lists, leading me to wonder why some discographies have received a free pass so far. For example, take this FL. All four tables are small and could be merged into her article without many problems. The following are similar:
- Chimaira discography
- Ricki-Lee Coulter discography
- Geri Halliwell discography
- Killswitch Engage discography
- Rachel Stevens discography
- Joel Turner discography
- If I may respond on the discography issue, I think they justify an individual page more than awards lists, which is why I have generally left them alone for now. However, I tend to agree with you (If we made a filmography for every actor or actress who has been in more than 20 films... I shudder to think of how many pages there would be.) -- Scorpion0422 04:13, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Type F
- Milestone home runs by Barry Bonds - How does one define what a "milestone" home run is? I'm not convinced that the page provides a clear enough definition.
- List of Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterbacks - I'm worried that this verges on indiscriminate information, and am not convinced that every sports team needs lists of all-time starters at every position. Not saying that would necessarily happen, but one lesson from this situatiion is that slippery slopes should be avoided.
- Some old sports season pages, particularly those on NFL teams - Outdated and need improvements. Problems with references and lead sections tend to plague these lists

- 1896 Summer Olympics medal table – Only 10 items. Could be put into an FA here
- Type F
- List of Ipswich Town F.C. Players of the Year – Although an Ipswich fan, I'm not sure we need two FLs: "Players of the Year" and List of Ipswich Town F.C. players, maybe an extra column in the later would suffice. Rambo's Revenge (How am I doing?) 16:09, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- This is the type of list that bugs me too. Another good example is List of Vancouver Canucks captains, which is a fork of List of Vancouver Canucks players. Since I am (slowly) working towards a featured topic for the Calgary Flames, the fact that that the captains list was passed necessitated a List of Calgary Flames captains article that I would be perfectly happy to return to its former redirect status rather than push for a FL on it. editOn two sports lists:
- Type A or F (depending on perspective)
- List of Arizona Diamondbacks Opening Day starting pitchers and its kin: I don't even see these as notable. I am well aware that there is some very mild notoriety surrounding being the opening day starting pitcher, but it is hardly defining. I can't wait for List of Arizona Diamondbacks first game of the playoffs starting pitchers either.
- List of members of the Baseball Hall of Fame by date of induction - A living example of the need for a FL sweep. No citations and a fork of List of members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ideally, this list would be converted to a sortable chart, merged with the other list and cited. I might open up a merge discussion and request for cleanup on this one. - I don't know about questionable notability here. While these are not the most important baseball lists, WP:WIAFL does not seem to have any additional notability requirements over a regular article. And these lists seem to meet the guidelines of WP:NOTE. And even the statement questioning their notability acknowledges that "there is some very mild notoriety surrounding being the opening day starting pitcher". Right now there are number of news stories (as occurs every year) speculating on who will be the Opening Day starter for team X, or whether player Y (Cole Hamels is player Y today) will be able to make the Opening Day start, so the Opening Day starter gets ongoing attention, in addition to the sources for the historical starters. Jinnai's Opinion
editI'll stick to what I'm pretty sure of.
- List of FLCL episodes should probably be merged as List of Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl chapters was not listed and it only has one fewer chapters than FLCL has episodes on the grounds it was too short for an article and much of the info on the page was chapter synopsis akin to episode synopsis for FLCL, which could probably be trimmed.
- List of songs in Guitar Hero, List of songs in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, List of songs in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s - I'd have to go with consistancy here are they aren't noticably short per the previous item.
- List of Castlevania media - if someone could cite what needs to be referenced I could probably fix that. Not sure what in the lead isn't referenced later.
- List of Kingdom Hearts media - the issues raised were already addressed when I viewed the page.
- List of Kirby media - checking on File:Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.jpeg;
some video game items from some company's have been made free use for Wikipedia. I know Ubisoft for a fact has. Don't know about this one.Appears as I and others suspected to not be free media.陣内Jinnai 23:31, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
