Polyporus varius is a species of fungi in the genus Polyporus. It is found mostly on twigs and slender branches.
Taxonomy
editThe generic name Polyporus means "many pores", while the specific epithet means "different" or "changing".
Description
editFruiting bodies are erect, solitary or a few together, centrally or laterally stalked, sometimes with two or more arising from a common base. Cap rounf, fan- or kidney-shaped, comvex to funnel-shaped, 1-10 cm diameter, 0.3-1 cm thick, margin sometimes lobed, thin, involute when dry, upper surface smooth, with fine radial lines, pale yellowish brown, then more reddish brown or ochraceous, lower surface white, cream- or straw- colored, pores 4-6 per mm, angular, tubes decurrent. Stalk 1-6 x 0.3-1 cm, upper part ochraceous, lower part black. Spores cylindrical, 8-11 x 2.5-3.5 µm. On attached and fallen branches of deciduous trees.[1]
