Merge with Template:Infobox festival
editI didn't nominate it, but I'm going to go ahead and merge it now and make the other one a redirect. —CodeHydro 17:07, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Years Running
editIf an event has been on hiatus for one or more years, should this be counted against "Years Running". How can this be done without using The age template ? Prefer not to hardcode. --Biatch (talk) 21:59, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Website line
editThe "Website" line should be on one-line, similar to many other infoboxes, please fix. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 00:55, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- Existing templates that don't put the URL on another line:
- Example 1 : New York City using Template:Infobox settlement, 400672 articles use this template.
- Example 2 : Nirvana using Template:Infobox musical artist, 77196 articles use this template.
- Example 3 : Apple Inc. using Template:Infobox company, 50758 articles use this template.
- Example 4 : Denver School of the Arts using Template:Infobox school, 21702 articles use this template.
- Example 5 : Harvard University using Template:Infobox university, 17943 articles use this template.
- Example 6 : iPhone 5 using Template:Infobox mobile phone, 999 articles use this template.
- Done. Thank you User:Frietjes for the help! • Sbmeirow • Talk • 07:05, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- This is a bad idea, because many URLs are long, and the original configuration allows them the maximum space before forcing the infobox itself to widen. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:13, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Wrong, it isn't a bad idea! Use square brackets to make a link to it and shorter text that shows up on the screen! • Sbmeirow • Talk • 22:03, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Not only is it a bad idea, but so is hiding the URL behind link text, when the URL is the fact under consideration. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:13, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

- Though I've only listed 6 templates, there are numerous templates that put the website on ONE line. The above examples total in the hundreds of thousands of articles that use the one line format. What's up with this template? • Sbmeirow • Talk • 20:53, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Field "proceedings"
editAs {{infobox conference}} redirects here, it'd make sense to offer a "proceedings" field, to cover the possible publication of academic proceedings. fgnievinski (talk) 00:19, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Founders and sponsors
editThe template currently has fields entitled "Founder" and "Sponsor". Both roles will often be held by more than one person. The easiest solution would be to change the titles to "Founder(s)" and "Sponsor(s)", in analogy to "Patron(s)", but that seems rather ugly to me. An alternative would be to allow multiple parameters each (say founder_name2, founder_name3, ...) and to have the template speak of "Founders" if more than one is used. That would require quite some one-time effort to modify the template, though. Thoughts? Huon (talk) 23:04, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- Huon, updated, see doc. Frietjes (talk) 17:25, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
Error message and tracking category for unsupported parameters
editI have added error tracking for unsupported parameters to this template. See Category:Pages using infobox recurring event with unknown parameters. A red error message appears when you Preview the article, between the edit screen and the rendered preview. In the category, the articles are sorted by the name of the parameter that is unsupported.
I have added this error-checking to a number of heavily used infoboxes, and it usually goes smoothly, highlighting errors that improve the articles that end up in the category. Every once in a while, parameters are missed or something goes wrong. If that happens, don't panic, just post here and I will be happy to fix it. Revert the change if you feel that you must.
If I have made any mistakes in coding, or if template changes are desired, please let me know. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:07, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Why not change the Website from header to label? Because currently it does not look good if "current" or "footnotes" parameter is filled. I made the changes in it's sandbox and you can see how it looks at Template:Infobox_recurring_event/testcases. --Pelmeen10 (talk) 14:20, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

For the Template:Infobox convention
Can we add at least the below parameters. These would seem to be very sensible to have for a convention, since it is by definition an event taking place at a certain time.
|date
|begins
|ends
Sorry, I had to remove all the parameters, otherwise it didn't show, or interpreted it incorrectly
StorminABottle (talk) 11:07, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Not done: {{Infobox convention}} redirects to {{Infobox recurring event}} which already has those parameters. Cabayi (talk) 11:15, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Champion (esports)
editCan we add:
| Current_champions : Team_A (1st title) | Most_championships : Team_B (2nd title) | Most_appearances : Name_A (98)
Established
editI propose separating the functionality of 'established' (and 'founded') from that of 'first'. As an example, the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer was established in 1922, but the first ceremony was conducted in 1925. Mindmatrix 20:18, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
Map
editAny way of including a map parameter to this template? Thanks. Liverpoolpics (talk) 16:46, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
Merging tag
editIzno is it necessary to add the merge tag on this template? Given that it's the other template that is being proposed to be merged to this one, and also the appearance of the tag in this widely-used template make many articles look unclean. HaEr48 (talk) 04:06, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- The point of the notification is to notify. I am not a fan of hidden notices even on widely-used templates especially since those are the templates most likely to attract someone to disagree with the merger. --Izno (talk) 14:31, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
Specific instance of a recurring event
editWould be more appropriate to use this template or {{infobox event}} for an article about an instance of a recurring event, or maybe they neither? For example E3 2014 is an instance of E3. Right now the article uses this template, but the infobox is missing information about the event that is recurring (in this case E3) and the edition of the event (in this case 20th), {{infobox event}} also lacks these parameters. To me, it makes sense to split this template into an template name {{infobox event edition}} and to remove parameters like |prev=
and |next=
from this template and add parameters like |event=
and |edition=
to that template. It could also make sense to use this template for both recurring events and editions of recurring events, but having a |event=
parameter in this template seems a little weird considering the name and mixing |frequency=
and |prev=
, for example, should not be allowed.– BrandonXLF (talk) 03:11, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Nickname field
editAdded `nickname` field to documentation but realized after this that I’m unable to add such to template. Could I get an administrator/template editor’s help? (Have an immediate use for this: “ACL Festival” for Austin City Limits Music Festival, respectively. jareha (comments) 18:35, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Italic title
editWhy aren't the titles of articles using this template italic? Illchy (talk) 16:37, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
Appropriate for reoccurring news events?
editThere are only two event infoboxes. The one for a single instance, and this one for recurring events. The problem is this: While the single instance version seems appropriate for "events" as fundamentally different as a concert and a news story such as a terrorist attack, the recurring events one (due to its parameters) seems only useable for entertainment-type things and other such PLANNED periodic events... not news items that occur over a span of time. So while this story and this one definitely concern "recurring events", using that infobox seems inappropriate. Suggestions? Rp2006 (talk) 22:27, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
And BTW, Infobox: news event gets redirected to Infobox: event. Again implying a news item can only occur as a one time thing. Rp2006 (talk) 22:35, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

"Nickname" parameter
editHey, I was wondering if somebody with template permissions could add a "nickname" parameter? I was interested in adding it into an article I plan on making and I noticed that somebody added it to the documentation page a while ago, but since they didn't have permission to it was never added to the template. Native name in light italic
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
May I suggest that native_name
be displayed in italic (per MOS:NONENGITALIC); and not in bold? At present, the English and native names are displayed exactly the same on two consecutive lines. Keriluamox (talk) 21:22, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: Not all non-English scripts should be shown in italics. I have adjusted the sandbox to show the native name using {{lang}} if
|native_name_lang=
is present. That should use italics or not, based on the language. See testcase 3 and the one following for example. We can deploy it if there is consensus here on the talk page. There will no doubt be language template errors caused by invalid values of|native_name_lang=
that will need to be cleaned up. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:47, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
