Violet Friend
edit- ... that the UK's Violet Friend anti-ballistic missile system used Bloodhound anti-aircraft missiles (pictured) and radars to lower its cost? Source: this is a composite hook based mostly on Stocker

Both complete. Maury Markowitz (talk) 11:36, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Maury Markowitz: You have not linked a QPQ in this nomination page. Please provide one so that this can be approved. Thanks. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:18, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- Its directly above this one. Maury Markowitz (talk) 11:32, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Maury Markowitz: There doesn't seem to be one linked above. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 08:43, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Looks like they removed it because I passed it. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:27, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Maury Markowitz, please find it and post the link here in this nomination. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:33, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

The AMES Type 85 was a EW and GCI radar, not a ballistic missile early warning radar. It was not being used for its original purpose. That is what I call "re-purposed". Am I using the term incorrectly? Maury Markowitz (talk) 00:48, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- No, your terminology is fine, and I really like the hook wording. It's just that for people who aren't familiar with missiles and ballistics like myself, it's hard to find the hook fact in the article. Maybe you could add a brief sentence saying the system wasn't being used for its original purpose? Yoninah (talk) 22:59, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- How's that? Maury Markowitz (talk) 00:47, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: I don't mean to be "that guy", but this article took two days to write and now we're into its second month here on DYK. I have modified the hook to state they originated as AA weaoons, and that the missile and it's associated radars were developed as a AA (SAM) has an entire article filled with refs to support it. Maury Markowitz (talk) 00:13, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Maury Markowitz: oh, you changed the hook wording without telling me? I'm still going with "re-purposed" and you're onto something else? Why didn't you add an alt to make it clear?
- It still seems to me that you're cobbling together information for the hook without adding an inline cite. Your new hook fact is only state in the lead. Just add one or more cites to that and we'll be done with it. Yoninah (talk) 20:12, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

WHAT new hook fact? There are no new statements! What EXACTLY do you want me to cite? Please, for the love of dog, BE SPECIFIC. Maury Markowitz (talk) 22:25, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
- Please cite this sentence: After many changes, due both to technical progress and changes in the strategic mission, in 1958 an "interim" design emerged that used existing missiles and radars to lower cost. Later you talk about Bloodhound and radars, but not in connection with cost savings. Yoninah (talk) 21:23, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
- Ref 18 covers this. The section as a whole contains a discussion of whether to re-use the Bloodhound and it's parts, or build a new interceptor missile. Maury Markowitz (talk) 00:56, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
