- Comment Both proposed alts are pretty dry taxonomic trivia. These are fascinating animals, I wonder if more alts could be generated that show this? CMD (talk) 02:30, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- Substantial GA on interesting animals, based on plenty of scientific sources, no copyvio obvious. Like CMD, I'm not enthusiastic about the hooks, and wonder what LittleJerry would like to point out. I might pick the millions of year, or the almost blind in murky waters, naming Ganges and Indus. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:50, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- How about that they have no eye lenses? LittleJerry (talk) 01:50, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @Chipmunkdavis, Gerda Arendt, and LittleJerry: How do these suggestions sound?
- ALT2 ... that the South Asian river dolphin is nearly blind and relies on echolocation for navigation?
- ALT3 ... that the South Asian river dolphin is the national aquatic animal of India and Pakistan?
- ALT4 ... that the South Asian river dolphin is nearly blind as its eyes have no lenses?
- ALT3 is slightly inaccurate since it's actually their respective subspecies that are national aquatic animals of the two countries, but I couldn't think of a way to word that right in the hook, so ALT3 is just intended to be a starting point for that angle. I think whatever hook ends up being used could also benefit from an image, and the article does have a few that could be used. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 01:53, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Them having no lens is more interesting than just being blind. May I also suggest something about the maxilla crests? LittleJerry (talk) 02:01, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- I agree of the above ALT4 is the best building off Gerda's almost blind idea, although we should link to Lens (anatomy). Maxilla might work although I wonder how much latin will turn off a casual reader. CMD (talk) 03:16, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you all for ideas! I'd also like an image, and could see a combination of ALT2 and ALT4, mentioning both no lenses and echo-piloting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:20, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps like this then?
- ALT5 ... that because its eyes lack lenses, the South Asian river dolphin is nearly blind and relies on echolocation for navigation?

- that's fine by me, but I'll keep watching, for alternatives and/or an image. A splendid article deserves more attention. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:56, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt and Narutolovehinata5: it seems the lenses aren't the only reason for the blindness, so could the hook maintain its punch and go for a bit more accuracy? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 06:12, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- How about back to ALT2 then? I'd still love a pic here- --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:39, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
