OPEC
edit- ... that shale "fracking" technology has roughly doubled US oil production and halved worldwide oil prices, in an ongoing market battle with OPEC?
- ALT1a:... that the 13 member countries of OPEC account for 40 percent of worldwide oil production and 73 percent of proven oil reserves?
- ALT1b:... that the 13 member countries of OPEC have just 3 percent of the world's surface area but 73 percent of the world's proven oil reserves?
- ALT2:... that 25 years ago, Saddam Hussein's retreating Iraqi troops ignited hundreds of Kuwaiti oil fires (pictured), in a war between two of the founding nations of OPEC?
- Comment: For this steadily popular OPEC article (~1,000,000 page views per year) and my first DYK attempt, the first hook (ref 100&102) is probably the most timely, while ALT1a & ALT1b (ref 8&9&10) are the most durable, and ALT2 (ref 82) is the most photogenic. Other alternatives are welcome.

- This is a newly promoted GA and an impressive article. Approving hooks ALT1b and ALT2, which have facts cited inline to reliable sources. (ALT0 and ALT1a may be OK, but I have not checked them.) The image is in the public domain and the article is neutral, but I have made no attempt to check on copyright issues because the task is too formidable. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:29, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
