Bill Brown (Oregon rancher)
edit... that Oregon rancher Bill Brown was known as the “Horse King of the West” yet he often wrote checks on newspaper margins and soup can labels?
Source: On p. 256 of Ralph Friedman’s book, Tracking Down Oregon, it says Bill Brown "was known as the Horse King of the West." In a Statesman Journal obituary dated 12 January 1941, it says: Brown "wrote checks on chips, wrapping paper, and tomato can labels." This fact is found in a number of sources, each citing different unusual types of paper … butcher paper, newspaper margins, soup can labels, etc.

- This substantial article about a fascinating character is new enough and long enough. I have changed the examples in the hook to use some mentioned in the article. The hook facts are sourced inline, the article is neutral and I detected no policy issues. Cwmhiraeth 06:12, 05 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this, but I don't understand the hook. Why "yet"? I would think you would say:
- ALT0a: ... that Oregon rancher Bill Brown, known as the "Horse King of the West", often wrote checks on newspaper margins and soup can labels—which bankers would cash without question? Yoninah (talk) 22:03, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
- ALT0a is fine. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:27, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
