1826 Canary Islands storm
edit- ... that the 1826 Canary Islands storm claimed over 297 victims and may have been a tropical cyclone?
Created by Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk). Self-nominated at 16:43, 20 May 2019 (UTC).
- The article is long enough, nominated timely, well enough sourced, no copyvios found. However, I have several questions:
- Was QPQ done?
- The DYK says "over 297 victims". The article says "over 298 victims". Which is it?
- "May have been a tropical cyclone" is unclear; the article gives various mentions of the term and it might be better to use something which is unambiguous. Can you suggest an alternate hook?-- MelanieN (talk) 02:21, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- @MelanieN:The QPQ is here; when I wrote the DYK nomination I didn't have the time to write the QPQ straightaway. The number of victims in the hook is 297+an undetermined number as the source does not mention the death toll on other islands; this formulation struck me as the most precise one. As for why "tropical cyclone" - it is not unambiguously known that this was a tropical cyclone, that's why I am hedging, but it's a strong possibility. - @Jo-Jo Eumerus: OK on the QPQ then. And if that is the hook you want then I will approve it. But I do think the article and the DYK should agree on the number of victims. I can't see your sources (assuming good faith; they are offline) but please choose a number, either 297 or 298, to use in both places. -- MelanieN (talk) 14:45, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- Let's try it this way:
- ALT1: ... that the 1826 Canary Islands storm claimed 298 victims on Tenerife and may have been a tropical cyclone?

- OK, we'll go with this. Do you want to wikilink Tenerife? -- MelanieN (talk) 17:22, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
- It probably should be, so done. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:04, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
