Talk:World of Dance season 2

Time to protect the page?

edit

An IP address keeps adding the name of the alleged winner (even when it's been reverted several times...) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.7.199.100 (talk) 01:34, 30 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

OK, now another IP address is doing the same thing...annoying! 64.215.234.33 (talk) 18:18, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Contestants who didn't qualify is questioned

edit

Due following note on readable page: Yeah, someone went nuts, but 4 of these other 8 acts also made it through the qualifiers. How the truely qualified people are to define? And how to keep Wikipedia neutrality ?

Since the article is about the show itself, should we really include acts that aren't officially part of the show? What official source do we have to back up that these 8 acts ever performed/these 4 acts moved on? If we have no source, and they're never going to show up on any broadcast/NBC media, there's really no reason to include them on the page at all. Greenstarfanatic (talk) 22:16, 2 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Since tonight is the last episode of the duels, if none of the "unknown" acts show up, I'm going to remove them from the charts/page. We have no official evidence of them existing in the competition, and since this is an article about the show itself, if they don't show up ON the show, they shouldn't be on the page. At least not among the acts that have actually performed. Greenstarfanatic (talk) 18:01, 15 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Show Concept/Judge Information

edit

Should the "show concept" section really be on this page, when the Season 1 page doesn't have it? If anything, since the concept of the show itself hasn't changed between seasons, we should keep that stuff on the page for the show in general, while only keeping the major format changed (Addition of Junior Team, Addition of Mentors, etc.) on this Season's page. Additionally, we can probably move the section breaking down the scoring system to the main page as well, to declutter this already larger-than-it-needs-to-be article. Greenstarfanatic (talk) 18:30, 11 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • The master overview page has not much content. If it will extend and it has more quality, I would agree, but you have to wait at least until end of the show to compare two seasons doing that. So I suggest keep it so for a while.

Contestants who appeared on previous seasons or other competition TV shows Section

edit

This section really needs sources, you can't use wiki link to another article as a source. It was also massively overweighted with trivia and puff which I have cut back but I still feel the section can be trimmed more. NZFC(talk) 09:10, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • I disagree. First you have to reduce the amount of entries due the fact that they are dancers and the amount of shows they appeared is huge. So the title is "... and other competition TV shows" than as usual "other TV shows" and they are restricted to be a main act. Second, the selection has as goal to display relations of dancers and their groups to each other and their appearance in other completion TV shows. I think a certain amount of trivia can be tolerated to explain this. Third, many social media sources are banned by Wikipedia, like for instance Youtube, which are intensively used by dancers, to prove facts which are not longer online. If statement is questioned one should add [[citation needed}}. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.63.252.115 (talk) 13:47, 14 August 2018 (UTC) And last, since when is a Wikipedia entry not accepted as source within Wikipedia?Reply
I think you are forgetting that this isn't a dance wiki article where basically any information is aloud including unsourced trivia but Wikipedia. Unless reliable sources can be provided, we don't display the information. It doesn't matter what you know, it has to be sourced. I suggest reading WP:TRIVIA "Avoid creating lists of miscellaneous information". That essentially is what this section is and if can't be sourced, then it shouldn't be there. Lastly you can't you a another Wikipedia article as a source since always as per WP:NOTSOURCE " If the information on another Wikipedia page (which you want to cite as the source) has a primary or secondary source, you should be able to cite that primary or secondary source and eliminate the middleman (or "middle-page" in this case).". NZFC(talk) 14:44, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Also regarding the external link, read WP:EXT including the how to link section. It shouldn't have that extra bit of information, it should only be the link to the official site and that wording. Not with some text advertising that you can watch full episodes with a disclaimer only if you live in the US. Wikipedia isn't here to advertise the show and isn't require. See World of Dance (season 1) as an example. NZFC(talk) 14:53, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
    • Not reasonable! First of all this is a TV show. There are no other reliable sources than the broadcast itself and the external link I added on. The links in this sub section describe other TV shows as well. Second, I'm German, living in Germany and have no relation to NBC nor the dancers; I don't make any promo. Pick any broadcast on Wikipedia of comparable shows and you will see the links are accepted without extra sources, as example how this section works. Third, these are no trivia, these are vita. You cut down the entries of dozens of people, because they would be mixed information by one or two vita sentences to add full name or their achievements? - By the way, I wrote nearly the entire rest of the entire article here and this is quite annoying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.63.252.115 (talk) 15:20, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry you are getting frustrated but information is suppose to be sourced on Wikipedia or it isn't suppose to be included. My comment around the external link wasn't me suggesting that you where trying to promote the show on behalf of the company but it is still promo and I don't believe should be included. Since we both clarely have different feelings about the content of the page, I've asked on WikiProject Television for more advice from experience editors of these types of articles to come help. NZFC(talk) 17:17, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Add this: Goal of the sub section, and of public interest as a Wikipedia entry should be, is to figure out what are the relations of acts between different shows. Isn't it? So content like contestants are siblings or from which Studio they are from should fit in the pattern. Short CV notes like full name, know for, age or occupation should be allowed as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.63.252.115 (talk) 17:55, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
There are a tons of issues with this article. I'd suggest going over it section by section and seeing what information should be in the article and what shouldn't. Also, the tables make no sense to me. Why does each week need a new table? The order of appearance isn't important, so there really isn't any real point for the multiple tables. Just merge them all into 1 table - both in Qualifiers and in Duel sections. Also, make sure you use correct tables. I've done an example at the first one how a table should be written, please follow it. --Gonnym (talk) 18:55, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Also, in regards to the list of past history of dancers - that information should be added to their individual pages, not this one. If a dancer from a previous season has returned, then that should be added the the prose section of the main "Dancers" section, but stuff like Hilty & Bosch competed for about 20 years as a duet. They competed in several televised street dance competitions including the UK Bboy Championship and Japan Dance Delight in 2006, both of which they won. has nothing to do with this show and should be deleted. --Gonnym (talk) 19:11, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

So it's time to decide what to do with this section as it sticks out like a sore thumb. My proposal is to keep only the information regarding a dancers previous appearance on this show (meaning, season 1 appearances) and move that data to the Dancers section into prose. Everything else deleted. --Gonnym (talk) 08:20, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm in agreement, really it's a whole lot of Trivia and not relevant. My preference would be to just cut it back to appeared previously. I only cut it back a bit last time and got reverted. NZFC(talk)(cont) 08:31, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Changing Table format

edit

Without thinking. Please don't edit table formates without thinking. Color keys are made just for not for specific reason. Thank you. Table content had structure. Thx. Please don't change this Content such drastical in on step. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.63.252.115 (talk) 19:43, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

You're going to have to learn to share, this isn't you're article but Wikipedia's and there are ways and templates that have been established for a long time. The changes made make the page look better and more align with other similar pages. NZFC(talk) 19:51, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hey 84.63.252.115, your edit history shows you are new here so I'll be happy to help you out. Colors should not be used when they are the only method used to convey important information, which yours are doing in a very bad way. You should limit your usage of colors as it also makes for harder reading. Please read more at MOS:COLOR. Tables should be properly formatted, which yours weren't. I did one as an example, please read more at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility#Data tables. Also note, that I did not change the content of those tables, just the format of them. Please be WP:CIVIL, do not assume another editor "was not thinking" just because you disagree with an edit. Lastly, if you'll notice, I did not edit in "one step", but did very small gradual edits with edit summaries so you'll be able to see what was done and why. As a side note, please sign your comments and add an edit summary to your edits (and reverts). --Gonnym (talk) 19:52, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
No I just changed my IP. And now you can clean up the mess yourselves and figure out what the colors actually suppose to be. It*s an IQ thing. And how to maintain the tables. I'm out. In Germany we editing Wiki entries sharing. In small steps! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.63.252.115 (talk) 20:16, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
That is ok, its an easy fix and will probably remove most of the colours anyway and re-order them so it looks more like season 1 or other competition show articles. NZFC(talk) 20:39, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Duels

edit

Is there any importance for the duel order pick? Does it have any meaning in the show? --Gonnym (talk) 07:51, 16 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

No not really and looks a mess the way it is done at the moment. Was going to have a go at cleaning it up when I had time but happy for you to change it if you want too. NZFC(talk)(cont) 08:11, 16 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Terminology

edit

I need some clarifications about some of the terminology used here and how it's presented in the show.

  1. Division names - Are "Junior" and "Upper" the division names? Is "Team" used in uppercase in the "Upper Team" division, is it "Upper team", or something else?
  2. The Duel Picks - Is "The Duel Picks" the name of a stage of the show?
  3. Stage names - Are "The Qualifiers", "The Duels", "The Cut", "The Division Finals" proper names written like this? --Gonnym (talk) 08:27, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
  1. Junior and Uppers is the different division names, I imagine it should be a lowercase team for team section.
  2. Dual picks is a section where the competitors with the highest score gets to pick who they compete against and so on down the list.
  3. Yes, those would be the proper names of those stages. NZFC(talk)(cont) 08:37, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
So "Dual Picks" isn't a name (like in #3), but just what they do? --Gonnym (talk) 09:15, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yeah dual picks is basically in between the qualifiers and the duals. So they do the qualifiers and everyone that scores over 80 goes through to the next round and represented their group (why you can get odd numbers at end of duals. Then you have the picks which is just basically announcing who is going to "dual" who with the people who scored highest going first picking their competitor. Dancers

edit

Ravenhyena6, as you haven't really supplied a reason for your revert would you like to share the reason for it, or was it just a personal WP:IDONTLIKEIT? --Gonnym (talk) 12:32, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Add Andres & Jaxon Willard to contestants who've competed on a previous season. (They competed on 801 Squad in the Junior Division.) Firetruck421 (talk) 08:21, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
