GA Review

Alright, lets get this review started! Wow, that name really stands out in the text. Anyways...

I'm not going to use a template, preferring instead to list out the points that I see that need fixing.

  • The setting section is completely unreferenced. This section is basically the plot, and as such is difficult to find cites for, but I'd really like to see something there.
  • Will you accept that Eurogamer review as a general source for the whole section? It gives the most thorough explanation of the plot, but doesn't get some of the more minor points I cover, like the name of the area being called "Dimension VVVVVV". --gakon5 (talk / contribs)
  • Yeah, that's cool. That's more of a plot detail, and unlikely to be challenged as it's a straight quote from the game.
  • Since the lead is the summary of the article, and not just its first paragraph, in Gameplay you should reiterate (and relink) the fact that the game is a platformer as the first sentence.
  • The first time you mention Cavanagh's blog you should say that it is Distractionware (in development). As it is, the first time you use that name you say that the composer wrote something on "the" Distractionware blog, and I had no idea that it was the dev's official blog.
  • Try to integrate Cavanaugh's previous games into the text instead of as a parenthetical aside- "(Judith, Pathways)".
  • Working on this. I'll have to investigate what those games are about a bit more. --gakon5 (talk / contribs)
  • Nah, you're reading too much into it or else I wrote it badly; I just meant to rewrite it as something like "Cavanagh wrote that VVVVVV, unlike some of his previous work such as Judith and Pathways, would not be a...". Did it for you, so that's fine.
  • Reception- VVVVVV made Gamasutra's top 10 indie games in 2009 while in Beta (here), #2, and was an honorable mention this past year here. Another review is here. Might want to add those in. Other than that, that section looks great.
  • Images- both images are CC at Commons, so that's all good.
  • References- 14, 20, and 21 don't have the publisher listed (Distractionware, Indiecade, Valve). I also wish that you had more sources that weren't from the dev/composer, but this is a small indie game.
Thanks for the review; I'll get started in the next hour. --gakon5 (talk / contribs) 04:18, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've addressed most of the changes. If you don't mind I'll wait until tomorrow morning to finish it out. --gakon5 (talk / contribs) 05:41, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think we're good, actually, it was just the one point left so I went ahead and fixed it myself. I'm going to go ahead and mark this as a GA; good job! --PresN 16:38, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks man. --gakon5 (talk / contribs) 18:40, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Gender

edit

What are the proper genders of each character? I'm confused. In this article, it addresses Veridian with both "his" and "her". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaleb.G (talkcontribs) 00:01, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I didn't catch that change when it was made. A handful of the reviews for the game refer to Veridian as a he, but I couldn't find any reference to gender made by Cavanagh himself. I'm going to change it back. --gakon5 (talk / contribs) 12:59, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I believe Veridian's gender was left ambiguous. According to this wiki, this was intentional so as to allow all players to relate to the character, although this is not sourced. Nonetheless, Veridian's gender is never revealed in the game, so it seems strange that the article currently uses primarily "her". I believe Violet and Victoria are the only female NPCs in the game.174.31.244.3 (talk) 03:05, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
I just noticed now that Veridian is referred to as female with a note stating that "For the sake of simplicity, this article assumes Viridian is female." But Veridian was referred to as male before. Why the pointless change? For the "sake of simplicity", wouldn't it make more sense just to leave the gender as-is? [User talk:Reach Out to the Truth|Reach Out to the Truth]] 19:49, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
"Captain" seems like a masculine title to me, and I think(although I'm not sure) that some characters say "Yes, sir!" to Viridian. In any case, the change was unnecessary. OneWithTheHive (talk) 20:24, 8 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Still Adobe Flash for linux-version?

edit
The game was built in Adobe Flash

The linux-version released with the humblebundle does not seem to be adobe. There are some SDL-libraries required though. --89.0.46.136 (talk) 20:35, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

About the edits on EU release date

edit

Is it really necessary to do one edit per month? The last edit inserted Q2, which was fair enough for me, but now it's edited again..

There is no known release date (as far as I know), so why have one at all? Especially as the source points at a post which states that it was going to be released 3 months ago. If anything, http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/04/nicalis_expects_vvvvvv_to_reach_europe_in_early_may is more relevant for the current estimation.

May I change the source, or is there a particular reason for why it's like this now currently? I'm new here (in terms of experience) and that's why I didn't do it instantly.

Jet Set Willy ?

edit

"The visual style of VVVVVV is heavily inspired by games released for the Commodore 64 8-bit computer from the 1980s, especially Jet Set Willy."

The reference says "A lot of people make a Jet Set Willy connection, but I actually never played that growing up, and hadn't even heard of Jet Set Willy until I played Jet Set Willy Online a few years ago."

Pronunciation

edit

Is there any reference for it being pronounced "the letter V six times"? Not only does that sound daft, but it's unreferenced (and i can't find a reference for it either). In an interview with one of the developers, he says it's got no real pronunciation, though he himself called it just "V". http://www.avclub.com/articles/avc-at-gdc-10-an-interview-with-vvvvvv-creator-ter,39174/ Other Googlings state the same: that it's pronounced "Vee".

I'd change it myself, but i'm still completely useless at adding reference tags. Would someone like to do it themselves, or come up with a reference for the current pronunciation? Cheers -Evaristé93 (talk) 22:19, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bit late maybe, but I removed it. No reason it should still be there, I couldn't find any sources specificly saying it's pronounced as V six times.--Telaneo (User talk page) 16:15, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
