it appears to me that the uefa categories for stadia is a nonsense for if you're really trying to tell anyone that Hampden park is rated above stadia such as Celtic park then you haven't visited either the same can be said for st James's park Newcastle much better stadium's both. The majority of Football fans in Scotland would rather see Hampden park scrapped as the national stadium or redesigned so how it can have a higher category rating than the stadia mentioned is beyond me and is another example of uefa being out of touch with the people who make football what it is , the supporters that pay their hard earned cash to enter whilst uefa dignatories are granted free entry to matches of which they have no vested interest in — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.71.62.74 (talk) 17:57, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Ranking
editWhen and who decides the ranking, in particular when will the Emirates Stadium in London be classified? --Vivbaker 11:13, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

expalin someone why SJP is not on here
Emirates is a 5 star Stadium, so is the new Wembley. SJP is, I believe, 4 star soon to be upgraded to 5-star.
- Read the criteria list. The only difference between 4* and 5* is the capacity. SJP has a capacity of over 50,000 and therefore can never be rated as a four-star stadium. This isn't a list of how "good" a ground is. It's a list based on stadia meeting set criteria. 23:19, 02 February 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.153.21.150 (talk)

Celtic Park
editShouldn't Celtic Park be on either the 4* or 5* lists?
On the UEFA website there is a comment on how there are 3 5* Stadiums in Glasgow, and includes Celtic Park in that list :
"Scottish hospitality
If the bid is successful, Scotland will host the opening match and the final of the tournament, as well as three of the four groups, three quarter-finals and a semi-final. Ireland will host one of the four groups, as well as a quarter-final and a semi-final. The exact stadium details have yet to be confirmed but Glasgow's three UEFA five-star stadiums - Celtic FC's Celtic Park, Rangers FC's Ibrox stadium and Hampden Park - will be used as well as Edinburgh's Murrayfield stadium."
Source on UEFA website
- No - the article is referring to Scotland's joint bid to host Euro 2008 with Ireland. Had the bid been successful it would have been upgraded to be used for the competition. Scotland and Ireland's failure to be awarded the games meant that this never happened.
- Do we have a source for that? By the same token, that argument could be used to bar the others mentioned from being in the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.108.38 (talk) 11:16, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

this is so ridiculous
editthis page is so fucking ridiculous, how are we suppose to know whether or not the stadiums are 4 or 5 stars if UEFA don't release any info on it!? these people are saying "no that stadium is not 5 stars" but they dont provide citations for anything. you say st james' park is not 5 stars but why is it not 4 stars at least? it hosted games at the euro 96 championship. and most of the stadiums from france 98 are not listed, why not? Also that map has not citations and it does not label the stadiums either. why is there a marker for a 4 star stadium in north wales? stadium of light is not featured. What about white hart lane. this list is endless. official citations and proper explanations are in dire need.

http://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/551788.pdf
There is a UEFA regulations website here:
http://www.uefa.com/uefa/mediaservices/regulations/index.html
The document you found is there and it is the newest one describing stadium classifiactions. Also there are other documents describing (among a lot of other content) the requirements to host various events here:
http://www.uefa.com/multimediafiles/download/regulations/uefa/others/70/22/60/702260_download.pdf (champions league)
http://www.uefa.com/multimediafiles/download/regulations/uefa/others/70/22/70/702270_download.pdf (uefa cup)
There are more but anyway, the documents are new (referring to season 2008/09) and refer just to category 1, 2, 3, and Elite. So Five-Star-Stadium is an out-of-date concept. OdinFK (talk) 18:49, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think you are correct. This UEFA story from 17 January 2007 states:
- UEFA's stadium infrastructure stipulations and safety and security regulations have evolved over the years and are now being laid down in one set of regulations which will come into effect at the start of next season.
- The regulations document above states:
- Article 38 – Adoption and entry into force
- 1 These regulations were adopted by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting on 5 October 2006.
- 2 They come into force on 1 June 2007.
- So I guess the 4/5 stars stuff has been dead since the start of last season. "Elite" seems to replace both 4 and 5 star, and has a minimum capacity of only 30000 (though other requirements are relatively stringent: Bernabeu's Elite status last November required some significant remodelling blogpost). The Champions League and UEFA Cup regulations docs seem not to specify any requirement beyind Elite for the Final match, which is odd: I can't imagine the CL final in Milton Keynes. jnestorius(talk) 21:27, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Should this just be deleted?
editFrom reading the entry itself, this talk page and the uefa website it seems that:
There is no such thing as a UEFA Stadium List
The 4 Star / 5 Star rating system has been obsolete for over a year. Lostcause1798 (talk) 12:26, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I propose a rename to UEFA Elite Stadium list. Reading this it does appear that it does exist under this name, however, more information is harder to find. Perhaps a split should be made regarding the 4 Star/5 Star ratings. Unless the list I mentioned refers to the same criteria? The ranking system does exist unless this would be quite strange. The fact that the starring system is obsolete isn't really cause for deletion, just a rewrite into the past tense. Middle-age cannons have been obsolete for years but we still have an article about them! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 13:06, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
As stated such a list doesn't seem to exist, at least officially. Listing all the stadiums, which satisfy all criteria actually would create such a list. But as long as no official list exists I wonder if it is feasible to create the list as the there are lots of criteria and who can really say, whether all of them are fulfilled by Stadium X unless the stadium hosted a major event in recent years. If nobody can come up with a good idea, how to do just that I think it would be better not to have any list at all as it is just confusing. A concept stub would probably suffice.
For this article I suggest to strip it down to the very bone and just explain, that there was such a concept and it is outdated now. I guess that would be all anyone needed to know if s/he heard about the Stadia List. OdinFK (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
From what I understand, under the old 4/5 star system, stadiums were only ever ‘rated’ if they had been nominated as a venue for a final. So many stadiums that would/could have been 4 or 5 stars would not have been on the list as they had never been nominated.
Equally, some stadiums that were nominated may have had temporary works carried out to make them suitable which were then reversed following the event, so were no longer 4/5 star stadiums.
This is also the case with the new criteria – an Elite stadium must have a VIP seated area with a capacity of at least 1500 people and a hospitality suite of at least 400m2 for VIP’s. I would imagine that for your average run of the mill league game, most teams would not have this in place, but could make some changes if required for a final.
Similar rules exist for press and media positions – 200 broadband connected desks is probably not required day to day – but a club might have these temporarily installed for a specific event. Again does every stadium have 3 television studios available for use all the time – or would most teams just have some hospitality boxes or similar converted for a one-off event?
It appears in the few years this article has been on Wiki no-one has ever been able to produce an actual official list, all we have is a list of stadiums that have been used for specific finals or which people think must meet the criteria.
This is an entry for a document that seems to only exist in the heads of the contributors to this page. UEFA make reference to it on their website occasionally, but I have a feeling this is just as a shorthand way of saying 'verifying that a stadium meets the criteria to hold a CL final or whatever' Lostcause1798 (talk) 17:22, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- I have shifted the prod since this is a wholly encyclopaedic topic and the problems need fixing not the page deleting. I have moved the page to a title that enables the article to focus on the stadia as opposed to the list and is independent of a physical list existing. TerriersFan (talk) 20:07, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- I see you've made some changes - however the article still refers to 4 and 5 star stadia which doesn't appear to exist as a concept anymore with Cat 1, 2 , 3 or Elite replacing that. It appears that finals can now be held in Elite stadia and depending on the final, there will be a minimum capacity. I beleive this is 70,000 for CL Finals which would rule out about half of the current stadia listed as 5-star (which was the previous benchmark for CL Finals). If no-one has before me, I'll have a go at re-writing the whole thing at the weekend - with a paragraph referring to the old style of 4/5 star as a historical concept. Lostcause1798 (talk) 08:29, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually the minimum capacity is afaik attributed to Platini. There is no such thing officially, but obviously it doesn't make sense to have CL finals in a 35,000 arena and therefore 70,000 is said to be minimum, but probably more of guideline. I couldn't find any such thing within the official documents anyway. OdinFK (talk) 08:41, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Importance and quality
editQuality: At the moment the article is not written as if the UEFA would still use the system. All that is any good is the introduction I guess. I was even wondering if I should have given it a start rating, but imo it has to much information and citations for that. The article still needs a lot of rewriting anyway.
Importance: I doubt that the importance could be anything but low. The article seems to be no more than a side note in the football context. On the other hand the article has some significance if you want to find out who can host EUROs, but still I doubt that mid-importance would be appropriate. OdinFK (talk) 07:19, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Walkers Stadium
editDoes anyone know if Leicester have applied for 4 star rating. As far as I know the Stadium is very simular to St Mary's in Southampton, so I'm curious as the whether the club have applied. JimmyMac82 (talk) 15:35, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Article rewritten
editit seems that throughout the time of this article, no-one has ever been able to produce a verifiable list of 4 or 5 star system meaning the old article was always contentious. at any eate - in 2006 uefa stopped using the 4 and 5 star system and now categorise stadia as 1, 2, 3 or elite.
i have rewritten the article and added links to 3 uefa docs verifying the details. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.194.194.54 (talk) 20:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree that the 4/5 star system is deprecated. The article was moved a few months back to reflect this. The article now needs more expansion and rewriting. Thanks for the work Mr. IP! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 21:42, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Though the updating to the categorisation system was useful the removal of sourced content was not. I am adding back sources that apply to events under the new system. They should not be excised again without agreement here. TerriersFan (talk) 23:24, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
List of stadiums
editThis article is categorized as a list, but the only problem is that there is no list! I understand the whole "work in progress" that happens to articles sometimes, but it would be very useful to have a sourced list of stadia. Would someone with knowledge – more than what I possess – of the subject care to update the article to include a list of elite stadia? The picture with the blue and red marks is useful, but it's impossible to know what stadium corresponds to each mark. JohnnyPolo24 (talk) 17:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- AFAIK, and I may be wrong, there is no authoritative list from UEFA, and stadia are assessed if they apply to host a major event. The map is an old map, showing 5-star stadia. Not sure if it should be seen as original research, but in any case it is tagged (citation needed) and should be deleted soon if no reference is supplied.hippo43 (talk) 23:23, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- This talk page could be a good place to start searching for references [1] for the usual suspects. Please, do not move this list to the article itself.

Vanity article
editI know a lot of work has been put into the recent table for the elite category, but I think there is a danger of this becoming a vanity article. Please see the comments of the previous page: Talk:List of UEFA Elite Stadiums. I can find no proof UEFA has any official list of elites and it's quite difficult to verify some of the criteria, e.g. size of hospitality areas and tv studios. Lots of fans would like to think the stadium for their team would qualify as elite but can't back it up. Even if the team's official website called it an elite, that could be a conflict of interest. As a more general example, how many seats are currently covered in Camp Nou? If it's not at least 22,500, then it's not an elite. So, please, somebody find a list from UEFA and all verifiability issues are removed. --ML5 (talk) 23:01, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
minimum capacity
edit"Stadiums must be all-seated and have a minimum capacity" I read this with some confusion and had to read the talk page to try to understand it. The minimum capacity for these stadia is 0 as is shown when a club's fans have been naughty and the following match is played without the public present. I think what is meant is "Stadiums must be all-seated and have a minimum maximum capacity ..." or "Stadiums must be all-seated and seat more than ..." or "Stadiums must be all-seated and have a capacity greater than ...". If so, can someone please change the wording. -- PBS (talk) 21:59, 25 July 2010
Examples for each category
editI've only skimmed the other comments above this one, so I apologise if I am repeating what another contributor has written. I think it would be beneficial if there is an image of an example stadium for each category, and for category 4 especially, a caption that states what final the stadium has hosted, ideally the most recent Champions League and Europa League finals, with any additional information that would seem suitable.
