Talk:Third Balkenende cabinet

Junior minister is geen correcte vertaling voor staatssecretaris. Deze naam komt alleen voor in regeringen met verschillende rangen in ministerschap (zoals in Engeland) en geldt dus ook niet voor Nederlandse ministers zonder portfeuille (die hebben namelijk volledig stemrecht in de MR). De meest correcte vertaling is m.i. State Secretary, daarna Deputy Minister.

I do not think the first is a good option as State Secretary may lead to confusion with Secretary of State in the US or UK, where it is a full minister. Deputy Minister is a Canadian term referring to a senior public servant, similar to the Dutch Secretaris generaal of a department, not a lucky choice either. Junior minister is a sub-cabinet assistant to the minister on specific domains, pretty close to the Dutch staatssecretaris. Arnoutf 22:40, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Naming of Dutch cabinets

edit

I've started a discussion on Talk:List of cabinets of the Netherlands to try and change the naming of all Dutch cabinets. Please discuss there. Mtcv (talk) 13:02, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

"demissionary"

edit

This is an excruciatingly literal translation of the Dutch term "demissionair", and completely meaningless in English (it comes from the French verb "démissionner", "to resign", since the government has just resigned pending new elections). The correct English term for such a government is "caretaker government". Please, please, please, Dutch-speakers, have your English Wikipedia articles checked by native English-speakers before you post them - your English really isn't as good as you think it is, and in this case it's incomprehensible.213.127.210.95 (talk) 22:16, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
