Comments
edit'a gathering place and unifying force for explorers and field scientists the world over, serving as a base for expedition planning, presentations, meetings, and events', and for that matter, most of the rest of the article sound as though they were cut-and-pasted directly from Explorers' Club literature. As the thing's called a stub, I suppose they likely were, but someone more patient or more passionate about the evenhanded, scholarly description of private clubs than I should clean the thing up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.111.238 (talk • contribs) 21:53, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
POV Check
editStarting with the sentence "The Explorers Club cherishes...", the article no longer reads like an article, but an impassioned description. Is this just my imagination? --SilverhandTalk 17:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- The cited phrase having been removed long ago, this check is removed. Laborynth (talk) 04:39, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Page name
editblanked The Explorers Club because Explorers Club violates trademark law. The title of the organization is officially The Explorers Club and needs to be moved Meksikatsi (talk) 04:06, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- That makes precisely no sense. This page redirects to a disambiguation page; please don't blank it again. -- Skarl 08:56, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- The blank was probably an attempt to move Explorers Club to The Explorers Club per trademark law. I put a move request in and it's more or less correct now. The flag image needs a trademark symbol but not familiar with image files. Laborynth (talk) 01:33, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Copyright violations
editUsing search tools, I see that Explorersclub (talk) added the following text to The Explorers Club article on Jun 22, 2010:
"The Club's members have been responsible for an illustrious series of famous firsts: First to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, first to the surface of the moon—all accomplished by our members"
This text is word-for-word identical to this external source, which is clearly labeled "© 2011 The Explorers Club". Additionally, Vinecroft (talk) added the following text to The Explorers Club article on May 21, 2009:
"The Sweeney Medal is awarded annually to a Club Member in recognition of his or her outstanding contributions to the welfare and objectives of The Explorers Club."
This text is word-for-word identical to this external source, which is clearly labeled "© 2011 The Explorers Club". Based on these two searches and the consistently non-encyclopedic tone of the article, I suspect most, if not all, of the article is copyrighted material. -- BlueCanoe (talk) 18:55, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Even looking back at the very first version of this article, copyright infringement cannot be ruled out. I am working on a complete re-write here. -- BlueCanoe (talk) 17:23, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to address this problem. I have history merged your new content into the earliest edits. I agree that there may be copying concerns with these as well, but they are not quite as extensive as the later situation! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:03, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
