Talk:Tau Ceti (video game)
Requests
editWe still need a scan of the boxart for the infobox. It'd also be good to get a screenshot from the Atari ST version of the game for use somewhere in the main article (as a contrast to the Spectrum screenshots). Any help with these much appreciated.

I've now managed to find a cover-art scan. We still need screenshots from other versions and some information about the cooling-rods (the jigsaw-like construction of which is practically a subgame). Any help much appreciated! -- Zagrebo 11:51, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Given that the game was notable for its early use of pseudo-3D shading, it would be nice if one of the screenshots actually displayed some of this. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 16:22, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
CPC Screenshots / Weapons
editSome screen shots from the Amstrad CPC version would make an interesting comparison. The greater graphical ability of this platform produced some interesting differences.
There two "experimental" weapons available hidden in two of the cities. I believe they were an invisible shield and a seeking missile. Any user who can remember the exact details....

- On the Spectrum 48k version, the two special items were a second shield, which kicked in if the first was exhausted, and so saved you from destruction, although you would have taken a lot of damage already where your initial shield was low and you were being shot, and a single one-shot "mega-missile", which upon hitting a target would blow up everything to a radius of about 50% scanner range. Long trip between cities
editThe article says;
The cities themselves can be travelled to by means of a "jump pad" which makes the long trips between them much quicker. Interestingly, if you did take the long trip between cities...
On the Spectrum 48k version, as far as I know, it is not possible to travel the "long way" between cities.

Trying the "long trip" on Spectrum 48k meant running out of fuel & having to land before reaching the next city (ie before seeing anything on the scanner). I didn't try working out which cities looked closest together (by map) so can't say whether there were some that could be reached that way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.143.177.134 (talk) 11:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- I recall in fact that doing this means you actually stop going anywhere - you still show speed and you still use fuel, but if you turn around, you rapidly return to the city, e.g. you didn't actually go anywhere once you got past a certain distance from the city.
