editThe device on the upstream side is a device used to control what depth (and subsequently what temperature) water is released from in order to aid the ailing Sacramento River salmon run. 76.252.253.181 (talk) 21:33, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
It is really an arch dam ?
editThe mere fact of being curved in the plan view, does not make it an "arch dam". To be an arch dam, there has to be a structural arch resisting the pressure of the impounded water by transfering the stress to the abutments of the dam. The minimal curvature and massive cross-sectional profile of the wall shown in the construction view, leads to the conclusion that this is not actually an arch dam.Eregli bob (talk) 05:26, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- According to its DWR listing, Shasta is a gravity dam. I'll correct the article.—Stepheng3 (talk) 17:00, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Written like and editorial
editThis section reads like an editorial. A good encyclopedia article should be unbiased, this passage clearly is not.
"One of the most important points made by dam expansion opponents is that raising the dam will not create more water (in fact it will actually cause some water loss due to evaporation) but merely increases the capacity to store it. As a result, the reservoir will rarely be filled, as no matter how much Reclamation expands the dam, the river's flow will not increase." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stannie1950 (talk • contribs) 16:06, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Unnecessary statement
editThe following at the end of the 'Completion' section is unnecessary:
"Ironically, the invention of photovoltaics in the 1950s disproved Crowe's claim, as the Shasta Dam continues to produce as much electricity as ever." Plenarium (talk) 17:47, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- That statement was unsourced, so I removed it. Indyguy (talk) 17:59, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Great, thanks. Plenarium (talk) 19:17, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
