2016 discussion
editwhat the hell is this?? Mannydantyla (talk) 20:19, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
- It relates to the political eras of the United States. See Sixth Party System (as well as Fifth through First; Template:American political eras). clpo13(talk) 22:24, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
- I see. I find it very interesting. I'd hold off on deleting it!Mannydantyla (talk) 22:36, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
NPOV dispute
editThis page is a mess, and the sources are questionable. Wasn't this supposed to be redirected to Sixth Party System? This article is written like a middle school essay.2600:1702:4250:4C40:6080:91B5:7596:9C43 (talk) 07:54, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Pretty Shocking In my opinion completely biased. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.207.16 (talk) 14:47, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- This article is quite poorly written and needs a complete overhaul. Nonetheless, some media outlets have claimed that we are entering into a seventh party system. In my opinion it ought to be rewritten with an appropriate tie-in on the Sixth Party System page. Pietrus69 (talk) 02:04, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed with the above. The redirect decision should be enforced and this material should be, at most, included under a subhead of Sixth Party System. 71.105.66.228 (talk) 21:27, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- This article should be a redirect to Sixth party system, and should be included under a subhead of Sixth party system. I think that this era hasn't lasted long enough to warrant its own article, even though some media outlets claim that we are entering into a seventh party system. Some sources seen questionable, also this article seems a little biased. Evaxooooof25 (talk) 00:31, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
If you don't like the tone then help rewrite it. But the sourcing was fine and events this in the first two months of 2021 have made it plenty clear that we have entered a new era politically.
First Political System 1788-1824 = 36 years
Second Party System, 1824-1856 = 32 years
Third Party System, 1856-1896 = 40 years
Fourth Party System, 1896–1932 = 36 years
Fifth Party System, 1932-1968 = 36 years
Sixth Party System, 1968-2016 = 48 years
It is insane to presume that the Sixth Party System is still in effect 20 years longer than any other alignment has lasted.scooteristi (talk) 01:33, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Start date
editI think the start date of the Seventh Party System started in 2016 with the rise of Trump. 2008 isn't really a good starting point as it still had the old Republican Neoconservative faction within the Republican Party. 2016 by contrast is a better argument as it was the rise of populist right and is still dominant in American politics today.
I wonder if anyone disagree with this or has a compelling argument of why 2008 is the start date instead. Rager7 (talk) 19:54, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- I fully agree with you, I’ll change it to 2016.
- I will say that the period from 2008 - 2016 was like the period from 1964 - 1980, when the roots for the realignment began to take place. Similar to how Goldwater led to Reagan, the Tea Party and fierce opposition to America’s first Black President, at first a minority in the Republican Party, culminated with Trump changing the Republican Party.
- i could’ve said this more eloquently, sorry Henry Berghoff (talk) 04:20, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree. Since 2016, the right wing populism of Trump took the old Reganite coalition. Thereby, destroying the Sixth Party System and changing American politics into a Seventh Party System. There's a lack of opposition against Trump in the Republican Party thereby this is clear evidence that we are in a new era of American politics. Rager7 (talk) 18:47, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Multiple issues
editI see why this page was changed to a redirect before, it's quite insubstantial and speculative. Even worse, as anyone can see from a scan of this talk page, there's quite a bit of original research and judgment calls from editors not based on any substantial source. Whether the Seventy Party System, if it even exists, begins in 2008 or 2016 is not something to be decided on a talk page. That said, I think there's enough material (and enough that could be incorporated) that I wouldn't want to delete it or make it a redirect again. But it's gonna need quite a bit of TLC I think. I'll circle back to it when I have more time, but for now I've flagged these issues. Garnet Moss (talk) 17:02, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
