- ... that in 1977, Phyllis Boyens, who would later play the mother of Loretta Lynn in the film Coal Miner’s Daughter, performed at a Christmas benefit concert to support Kentucky coal miners who had been on strike for 17 months? Source: “Wednesday at a Christmas benefit at Grace Episcopal Church, the cause was coal miners - 150 coal miners from Stearns, Ky., who have been on strike for 17 months trying to force the Blue Diamond Coal Company to sign a United Mine Workers contract.”“The evening's musical entertainment included singer-composer Hazel Dickens, Bill Worthington, Guy and Candy Carawan, who had flown up from New Market, Tenn., and Phyllis Boyens, whose father, Nimrod Workman, is a West Virginia coal miner and singer of some repute.” Washington Post

Created by Thriley (talk). Self-nominated at 22:51, 17 December 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Phyllis Boyens; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- New enough, long enough. There was a paragraph in the article that was uncited, which I indicated with a cn tag. This will need to be resolved before this hook is approved. The hook, at 218 characters, is too long and this will also need to be resolved. QPQ is complete. Please ping me when ready for another review. Z1720 (talk) 00:24, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

- My concerns have been addressed. I do not have any concerns with ALT0a. I think the WP:CLOP concerns outlined on WT:DYK have been resolved. Z1720 (talk) 18:19, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- ALT0b: ... that in 1977, Appalachian folk singer Phyllis Boyens performed at a Christmas benefit concert to support Kentucky coal miners who had been on strike for 17 months? Thriley (talk) 18:35, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- The above is also approved. Although does not specifically source that she is from Appalachia, she was born and raised in West Virginia which is part of that region. Z1720 (talk) 18:56, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
