14.07.2013 I am noting there is a page set up for Watch Dogs in Wikipedia and Peter Connelly is not currently listed in the credits as sound designer. In the Peter Connelly article page there is no link set up for Watch Dogs to click on it go directly to the article page. An edit expert could maybe look into this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.100.54.203 (talk) 20:18, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Substantial edit request (due to COI)

edit

Hi. My name's Jenni and I'm acting on behalf of Peter Connelly. He wishes to update his Wikipedia page, but because I'm a colleague (although a writer and editor), this falls into the category of a COI.

The page itself contains several unsourced statements and/or broken links, some ordinary typo/grammatical errors, and is generally out of date. I have drafted an improved (but by no means perfect!) version of the page with citations and links, but I need help to implement these changes on Wikipedia for two reasons: 1) I'm still extremely new to editing in Wikipedia, and 2) the aforementioned COI.

I'll list the necessary changes section by section, and am deeply grateful for any and all help with this!

PLEASE NOTE that this text needs to replace the existing paragraphs.

First section (beneath the title):

Peter Connelly is a video game composer and sound designer best known for his work on the action-adventure Tomb Raider series. His work includes several award-winning video game releases working mainly with Core Design, Eutechnyx and Ubisoft.[1]

Second section (under "Life"):

Connelly has been passionate about music and sound design from an early age[2]. His father was in a band and his sister was a bassist, both of which helped to fuel his fascination with instruments and music in general. He was classically trained on piano, cello and guitar, and, for several years, he played cello in an orchestra that toured his native North East of England, performing mostly funky popular music such as Ai No Corrida by Quincy Jones, and Street Life by Randy Crawford. By the time he reached secondary school Connelly was starting to experiment with the more technological aspects of music production, including synthesizers, samplers and studio equipment (especially Fairlight CMI). Connelly also holds an OND and HND in Music Technology from Newcastle College. [3]

Connelly is best known for his work as a music and sound designer for video games, including (but not limited to) three entries in the Tomb Raider series by Core Design – including the acclaimed score for Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, LondonDriver: San Francisco and South Park: The Fractured but Whole by Ubisoft, Blackguards 2 by Daedalic Entertainment, and The Fast and the Furious (2006 video game) by Eutechnyx.

Connelly cites John Williams and Danny Elfman as “exceptional” soundtrack composers who have influenced his own work. Other notable influences include Burt Bacharach.[4]

Third section (under "Career"):

Early Work
edit

After graduating from Newcastle College with both an Ordinary and a Higher National Diploma in Music Technology, Connelly started his professional career in the mid-1990s as a composer and sound designer for various video games on PC and PlayStation.[5]

From 1995 to 1998, he worked for several different companies and was responsible for producing soundtracks and sound effects for several videogame titles, including Risk II and his ‘breakthrough work’[6] for Mass Destruction.

Core Design and Tomb Raider
edit

In September 1998, Connelly joined Derby-based studio Core Design, a subsidiary of UK videogame publisher Eidos Interactive, and the developers of the by-then famous Tomb Raider action-adventure series.

As a member of Core Design, Connelly initially worked on additional sound design for Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft. He was promoted to lead composer for the following title in the series, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation , and continued in this role for Tomb Raider: Chronicles and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (the latter co-written with Martin Iveson [7] .)

The score for Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was a landmark event in the Tomb Raider franchise, being the first time a score had been written for and performed by a live orchestra. The score – co-written by Connelly and Iveson – was performed by the renowned London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, London, in 2002.

To mark this unique event, Core Design and Eidos Interactive released an official, eight-track CD of the score as part of the EU-exclusive Limited Collector's Edition[8] of the game. Although the game met with a lukewarm critical reception, its soundtrack and audio design were highly praised by both critics and fans of the series[9].

Apart from his work on the Tomb Raider series, Connelly also composed and produced sound design for several other commercially successful games at Core Design, including Herdy Gerdy and Smart Bomb. He also worked on Shellshock 2 and Free Running, both produced under Rebellion Developments after it acquired Core Design from Eidos Interactive.

In 2005 Connelly left Core Design/Rebellion Developments and continued to compose videogame scores and work on sound design for a variety of other development studios. These included Eutechnyx and Daedalic[10].

Ubisoft
edit

From 2010 to 2017, Connelly was contracted to Ubisoft where he initially worked as a Senior Sound Designer on Driver: San Francisco. He was also the composer and/or sound designer for other highly praised titles such as Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Identity, The Crew (video game), and South Park: The Fractured but Whole.

Current work
edit

Connelly is now a contractor with Slightly Mad Studios, working as Senior Sound Designer[11]. He is currently working on several undisclosed projects for Slightly Mad Studios, and on a fan-collaboration project known only as Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel. [12]
