what about Andrew Johnson
editI am pretty sure Andrew Johnson switched from the Democratic party to the Union party during the election after the civil war broke out. he then switched back to the democrat party after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln
i dont know a whole lot about it from sources other than Wikipedia, so i will not edit the page. i think that considering Andrew Johnson was the only sitting president to ever switch parties, this should be at least mentioned. my sources mainly the Andrew Johnson page, which will link you to pages related to "war democrats" and the union party that lasted for like 10 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.20.124 (talk) 01:48, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

"Independent"
editI believe if a politician is an independent only for the period in which their party membership is pending before the party they which to switch to, then that politician is not an independent and should not be treated as such in this list.--Mpen320 (talk) 06:56, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
