Namma Metro?
editFrom the photo, is that the official name for the Metro? Grusl 09:54, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes , it s the official name.
The Bangalore Metro should be the main page
editNamma Metro is a colloquial term and a brand name. But it is not a common name by which the Metro is referred to. To an outsider it will be confusing to list Bangalore Metro as "Namma Metro" in Wikipedia. I understand the Parochial and chauvinistic concerns, but it is better to categorize this as "Bangalore Metro" Xwas (talk) 07:11, 18 June 2010 (UTC)xwas
- Namma Metro is a registered legal name. No parochial or chavuinism here.. It is as parochial as calling Deutsche Bahn as "German Train." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.113.47.66 (talk) 05:09, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Incorrect URL for Operator's Name
editIn the side box, summarising this page, the link for BMRC points to Bangladesh Medical Research Council. Either this link should be removed or pointed to http://www.bmrc.co.in/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.248.161.91 (talk)
Open when ready not when VVIP ready
editThey want to open the Bangalore metro only when the PM is available ? till then the millions Rs spent on building it lies unused. that is a mad waste. open the metro and have your ceremony anytime - you will get your pic in the paper anyway and we will get to use something built with our money for us.
Also expenses like the mock metro are better not spent. with that Rs 4,00,000 we could have helped poor farmers, given loans. who needs to see how to board a train? show a video on tv ... if we can get on a mall elevator we can figure out a train with automatic doors! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tgkprog (talk • contribs) 01:33, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
NEWS - train derails during trials
editNo one hurt but Friday 7th Oct 2011, one of the trains derailed. Apparently due to over speeding in a section where the curve of the track is not optimal but could not be helped due to Industry proximity in the Bypanhalli area — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.93.144.182 (talk) 22:28, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Name
editWhoa! The naming conventions here are just a mess. Is it "Namma Metro" or "Bangalore Metro"? To my understanding it is Namma Metro operated by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). This is not an unusual situation, as all over the world there are branded public transportation systems which have an overseeing commission or government agency with a different name to differentiate their function. The problem here in Wikipedia is that lines are suffixed Namma and stations are suffixed Bangalore and there are duplicate categories for the two different names covering the same articles. There is no article called "Bangalore Metro" and it makes no sense to have categories or other articles related to something that does not exist here. Lets get this straightened out now! Sw2nd (talk) 17:22, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Sigh, it is a mess, I agree. The problem is that the papers themselves are unclear; sometimes they call it Bangalore Metro, sometimes they call it Namma Metro. We need to have a good discussion here to resolve the matter. Lynch7 17:26, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited in an agreement with a private contractor states:
This clearly means that Namma Metro is only one of many projects by BMRCL. I therefore propose to change or move everything to read Namma where it relates to the Metro rail system. I will also create a series of succession templates that will allow for navigation between stations. Sw2nd (talk) 23:24, 24 October 2011 (UTC)BMRCL has been established with the pricipal object of planning, designing, developing, constructing, maintaining, operating and financing mass transit and other urban transport and people mover systems of all types and descriptions in Bangalore, and in pursuance thereto, BMRCL is in the process of construction of a Metro Rail System called "Namma Metro" for the City of Bangalore.
- Yes Namma Metro is the name of the intra-city mass rapid transport system project undertaken by BMRCL. The current name is correct although people often call it Bangalore metro. The proposed high speed rail link to the airport will also be undertaken by BMRCL. — Abhishek Talk 12:48, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
- I think it will all be called Namma Metro in the end as the 'high' speed link will be seen by people as another stretch with fewer stations. There was an article in the papers about the stretch being part of the metro, though with separate check in counters as an option in some stations.
- During construction they might call it by different names for administrative ; raising finances and audit purposes. Tgkprog (talk) 23:26, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Wrong claim?
editIt is mentioned "Each corridor consists of two tunnels which are the first underground tunnels built for trains in South India". Wrong. The tunnels for Konkan railway predates these by more than a decade. Incidentally the length of its tunnels is more than that of any of the metros including Kolkata metro which was mostly underground in its first phase. There are older tunnels in Indian Railways too, eg. Mangalore Hassan, Nilgiri mountain railway, etc..
The right claim would be that these are the first tunnels for a suburban railway in South India
Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Wrong claim on daily ridership
editThe claim that average daily ridership is 175000 seems to be wrong. The reference cited for average daily ridership gives 110,000 for the purple line. Editing the claim. Origin of the name "Namma"?
editThe article doesn't explain why the system is called "Namma" as opposed to "Bangalore Metro". best, Sunil060902 (talk) 22:51, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Sunil060902: I don't think the origin is of importance as there is any significant reason out there. But there is a source right at the first line which proves that this system is called Namma Metro. — LeoFrank Talk 17:07, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Can we modify & update?
edit1) The description at the beginning needs a few changes - no history section.
2) A lot of background information contains details that are jumbled - this can be streamlined.
Can we modify the contents, so information is presented better? Cpt Naveen (talk) 13:57, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
Regarding "Network Map" section
editThe network map section shows no map of the metro lines, but just a Bangalore map. Can we remove this? --ShellPandey (talk) 09:36, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- If you click on the map, it expands to show the network lines.
- What would be best in my opinion would be to reduce the map to a "thumb" in size and have it on the side or in the infobox. It is not useful to have section for a map, that only shows something useful if you click on the map. If the map were thumb-size it would be obvious that you need to click on it.-- Toddy1 (talk) 10:00, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Toddy1: Clicking on the above map didn't show the metro lines for me. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or not. --ShellPandey (talk) 13:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- Do you use a computer or an iPhone? I use a computer with a big screen. On my one, it shows a purple line and a green line that I think are meant to represent the train lines in question. If it does not work on your device, try zooming in on the city centre.-- Toddy1 (talk) 14:25, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Merge proposal for Bengaluru Monorail
editThe Bengaluru Monorail page seems like it should be merged with this page, unless I'm mistaken. It seems like the Monorail was just a proposed project that never came to fruition, so it could potentially just be a note on this page rather than its own separate article.
