Categories

Since the year of birth and year of death categories for Sarah Payne no longer apply to an article about her murder, they should proabbly be removed. However, since these cats are a useful way of finding the article (and since anybody looking for it that way would be looking for "Sarah Payne" and not "murder of . . .", a better place for them is on the Sarah Payne redirect. I'll put them there, but if anybody has any objection then by all means revert and say so. As far as I can tell, all other categories remain relevant to the article.--Jackyd101 23:32, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok, had a better look. Removed all the cats which dealt with people specifically and placed them on the redirects and then added three cats which did apply here. There perhaps should be more categories created (i.e. murders of children) which might be something for one of the Wikiprojects above to consider. Article shouldd be split as it is a seperate legal arugment similar to Megans Law and is notable enough not to be confined to just this page.--Lucy-marie (talk) 21:16, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Unclear whether she was sexually abused

If information exists which indicates that she was sexually abused before she was murdered, this should be included in the article. This is an easy assertion to make, however, the article does not support such a conclusion presently. __meco (talk) 14:27, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Article name/further article

This article spends more time on the murderer than the victim/investigation. That info should be moved to an article on the murdrerer?

Article heading wrong

Date of birth?

The info box and the intro paragraph have contradicting years for her birth. Was she born in 1991 or 1992? Crito2161 (talk) 18:10, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

The date in the info box is correct she was 8 years old when she was abducted,--18:11, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

I have added a reference to state that she was eight when she died, I hope that no one removes it or reverts the change again, especially without proving she was seven, but when I changed it to eight, someone changed it straight away, so I don't know if people read the talk page of an article anymore. In case people do, I would like to politely request that if anyone would like to change it, please leave a reason for this and provide a reference as it's just silly to start an editing war. Do you have a linkable web source for this? The book source recently added (Payne, Sara (2004), Sara Payne: A Mother's Story, England: Hodder & Stoughton) gives no page number. Also the source for her date of death is now a deadlink. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:21, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

Murder investigation

This section is confusing for me and does not seem to flow chronologically; " Whiting was subsequently re-arrested on 31 July 2000. After Payne's body was discovered 5 km (3 miles) from the Buck Barn service station where Whiting had bought fuel on the night of Payne's disappearance and Whiting's failure to confirm his alibi. Police still had a lack of evidence to press charges and Whiting was released.[citation needed] A few days following his second arrest, Whiting moved out of his father's house after a vigilante attack and went to live in a tent in woodland behind a housing estate in Crawley.[citation needed] Whiting's father moved out of the house afterwards, fearing for his own safety.[citation needed] On 21 July 2000, Whiting stole a Vauxhall Nova and was pursued by police at speeds of up to 70 mph before crashing into a parked vehicle. Whiting was arrested on a charge of dangerous driving."

Merger proposal

I propose merging Roy Whiting into Murder of Sarah Payne, because of WP:ONEVENT, Roy Whiting is only known for the murder of Sarah Payne and I think that the content of the Roy Whiting article could be easily explained in this article without any weighting problems. There is very little to merge here. The article on Whiting lacks sources for most of its content. I suspect there is a lot of original research in Whiting's article. Dimadick (talk) 19:40, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
