Talk:Municipio

Municipio is a common Spanish word that is not necessarily connected with the Mexican municipios. At least Spain, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and most Spanish speaking countries also have municipios. Should this page be renamed to Mexican municipio? should this talk in generically about municipios and have a section about the Mexican ones? -Mariano 10:47, 27 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Chile seems to use comuna Tobias Conradi (Talk) 13:20, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I moved the Municipalities of Mexico to Municipio (Mexico) because municipio is a well-defined concept in Mexico as opposed to the general municipality. There aren't any non-municipio municipalities in Mexico. --Vizcarra 20:31, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

In Spain a municipio isn't a comarca, a comarca is almost always composed by several municipios. A comarca can be compared to a shire, in Spain the legal concept "Partido judicial" was used, it's the area assigned to a legal court. A municipio can enclose one or more towns, usually the biggest one beeing the council see (and could be understand as "capital") 81.202.15.207 16:36, 15 December 2005 (UTC).Reply

This article?

edit

This article doesn't make sense. Municipality has as many definitions in English as Municipio in Spanish. Vote for this article to be destroyed.--tequendamia 16:50, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

You are welcome to write articles on the many definitions of Municipio. I created Municipio (Mexico). --Vizcarra 00:19, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I propose that Município be merged into Municipio. I think that the content in the Município article can easily be explained in the context of Municipio, and the Municipio article is of a reasonable size in which the merging of Município will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. Paraguay

edit

My understanding was that a municipality in Paraguay is known as a distrito, not a municipalidad. Skinsmoke (talk) 20:38, 19 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
