Why merged

edit

Per some of the points in the discussion below given things have changed and that the subject itself has changed a wee bit. Meowth as a character alongside Team Rocket warrants attention (and even then there isn't really enough to discuss a full article on just him), but the general meowth doesn't have the same degree of weight: there aren't variants like the case of Jigglypuff or Mewtwo that are important. So Rocket's Meowth is best covered with the Rocket article when that gets revived, and a general Meowth article isn't needed so much.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 10:20, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

No - I don't think that's a good idea. If anything it should be merged into Team Rocket. He is a legitimate character who talks and has a distinct personality. And plus, this article would be made very long. --Celestianpower hab 16:57, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. There's a lot of duplication between the three articles as-is. I think it might be a good idea to split the relevant info between Team Rocket and Meowth, crosslink the two articles extensively, and redirect Meowth (anime character) to Team Rocket. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 17:13, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yes - although the majority of it would need to go in Team Rocket. --Celestianpower hab 17:17, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
I guess that'd more or less be up to the merging editor. (Which means if you want it that way, please do it, by all means; it's a big job, and I'm doing other stuff at the moment. Meowth and Team Rocket both are in dire need of rewriting and restructuring anyway, so the difference will end up coming out in the wash..
Incidentally, I subst'ed out the mergefrom and mergeto tags, so now the notice on Meowth (anime character) suggests merging the info into both articles, as appopriate. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 17:28, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I don't think there should be a merge because the Meowth anime character page talks about a certain Meowth in particular of the species. The page that is just Meowth talks about the general species. - Not signed

There's no reason to have three different pages about the same character. Let's mention the Team Rocket Meowth on the Team Rocket page (note that we don't have standalone articles for Jessie or James, either), then rewrite Meowth to briefly mention the Team Rocket Meowth and reference the Team Rocket article. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 21:54, 21 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. I think about a Team Rocket Meowth bio is all that is needed on that page. NoseNuggets 10:42 US EDT August 24 2005.

Aside from the fact that the page will become longer... we don't have a huge article entitled "Humans" and then sub-titles about each individual one, do we? I know this is a rather extreme example, but I think that merging them is a bad idea. (And I don't think individual articles about Jessie and James would be that bad either) Deskana 09:05, 1 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Don't make ridiculous comparisons. There's only one notable Meowth; the rest are one-off cameos, meriting a sentence each at most. I was originally picturing an article similar to Pikachu, another species of Pokémon with a single notable example (more or less), and supplementary discussion of the species as a whole and other notable individuals.
That said, I now prefer Celestianpower's idea of merging this into Team Rocket (with reference to that article in the Meowth article). I realize Team Rocket is getting a little long; I think a better split would be an article about Jessie/James/Meowth and an article about Team Rocket the crime organization.
As for J/J/M, the three characters are never seen apart, work as a group, and are defined largely how they interact as a group with other characters. Any discussion of one would require constant reference to the others, which says to me that the articles belong together. (In this case, they're notable enough to merit individual articles, but they aren't each separate topics unto themselves.) - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 15:17, 1 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
That idea (The one where J/J/M and the Organization are separated) has to be one of the best ideas suggested so far, as J/J/M could easily stand alone (and not too long) from the organization, and visa versa. Zap 01:30, 20 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Practically the entire article is like that. Meh, I like it. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:01, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Removed line "Female Meowths have eyelashes." ONE female in ONE episode of the cartoon had eyelashes, probably fake ones as it was rich and decked out. This isn't fact for all of the female species.

Meowth for GA

edit

Do you think this is good enough for GA Poke Master (TalkContribs) 15:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Definitely not. It needs some proper referencing, more information from the manga, merchandise, and TCG is necessary, among other things. PCEevee talk 16:17, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree, just failed article. Alvin6226 talk 16:35, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Meowth's Party

edit

"A Nintendo GameCube video game called "Meowth's Party" was planned, and it seemed to involve Meowth entertaining at a party. A gameplay video also showed that Meowth could used Pokémon's abilities as an advantage (e.g. using a Snorlax's belly as a trampoline). [1] However, the game was cancelled, possibly for time constraints, or likely because of the decreasing interest in Pokémon."

The YouTube link in the above paragraph is to a French version of the Meowth's Party video contained within Pokémon Channel. As far as I can remember, the original Meowth's Party video was only intended to be a Nintendo GameCube tech demo, and was never planned to be an actual game. --86.27.62.142 03:14, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why haven't we started a new page for meowth's party it was going to be the first pokemon gamecube game and wasn't just a tech demo it had commercials at toy'rus if any one found it because I didn't want to break the law by stealing it. It was used in the pokemon (anime) has the end song mainly in japan but once in america and was used in pokemon channel. who got rid of my article!

This is a myth. The Anon IP above is right. It was only intended to be a tech demo. The demo itself was likewise featured in Pokémon Channel. I am deleting this paragraph. Drumpler 05:25, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I rewrote it and moved it closer to the Pokémon Channel reference. Drumpler 05:30, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bowerbird not Magpie

edit

"Like the magpie, Meowth is attracted to certain objects that catch its attention, which it collects at every opportunity and hoards in its nest. Murkrow, a Pokémon which is even more like the magpie, exhibits similar behaviour and members of the two species have been known to steal from the collections of the other."

It is not the magpie that collects colourful objects, it is the Bowerbird. I am going to change the link.124.184.25.217 13:25, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Romanization

edit

Why are we romanizing Nyaasu as Nyarth? I understand the lengthening vowel to express the schwa+rhotic sound not found in Japanese, but I don't think that it is always necessary. I mean, Japanese uses lengthened vowels to represent lengthened vowels within its own language, after all. Wouldn't it be more sensible for this to be read as "Nyaath," indicating a held call?

...it's just what the Japanese decided to do. Not all their Romanizations make sense. They call Plusle "Prasle".—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 08:32, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

That was a vandalism-like sentence which somehow got by unnoticed. Thanks for spotting it! Please don't forget to sign your comments using ~~~~ btw. Cheers, Face 20:30, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Meowth was modelled after Muttley from Wacky Races (http://web.archive.org/web/20021118215900/sekichiku.freehosting.net/faq_r-dan.htm#FAQnyarth2). Might be something worth adding to the article. Cite "Pokemon Story" instead of the link though so the source passes notability. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 16:24, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
