Knight of Malta?
editHe's listed as being a Knight of Malta (in the category). Is there anything to back up this assertion? I have scoured the internet and found nothing that didn't cite Wikipedia. Chris 19:15, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Whoever posted this, find the source and then put it back in with the link. With approximately 80% of his Republican base vehemently opposed to the bill, Martinez lamented in a speech later that day that the people of Florida were disappointed in the results of the vote. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.51.71 (talk) 12:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Proposed reinstatement of Order of Malta involvement: I recall his induction into the Order of Malta was publicly announced in 2009, but I can't find the initial statement online. Though I did find a bio for Martinez here http://ir.marriottvacationsworldwide.com/committees.cfm stating he is active with this civic group. Continuing to scour the web for other sources. Second Cuban in Senate after Sununu?
editI reverted an edit that called Martinez the second Cuban in the U.S. Senate, after John E. Sununu. The reasoning behind the edit was apparently because Sununu's father was born in Havana. By that same reasoning, Mitt Romney should be identified as Mexican because his father was born in Mexico. Unless I am missing a whole slew of reliable sources that do so, I do not see any validity in classifying him as Cuban. -- Donald Albury 13:44, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Page Repairs: suggesting organization, additions and revisions
editLooking at this article and comparing it to other public officials of similar service, I think it could do with some proper updates and organization. Also, I've noted several omissions regarding the senator's political career activities (no mention of his time as mayor and widely recognized initiatives during that time), his writings (no mention of his published autobiography), and the entry could benefit from better centralized categories, i.e. "controversies" to match the format already existing on many other pages for persons of similar status.
I intend to undertake some of the additions and organization. Is anyone actively working on any sections of this page and/or possibly interested in collaboration? I have access to the Library of Congress buildings and Senate records, if that helps.

UPDATE: Added Martinez's election as Orange County Chairman and Martinez Doctrine.
Newscall (talk) 15:14, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
UPDATE: The "Positions" section is out of date and does not accurately reflect contemporary developments on several issues. Housing, immigration and Cuba policy matters could be ferreted out as major policy areas where Martinez is still active. Any thoughts? 14:30, 7 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newscall (talk • contribs)
