How to properly credit the cast
editThis franchise has such a large ensemble cast but not very detailed credits. In order to follow the wiki rules, cast members are put in three categories:
- 1. cast members who appear in opening credits and in confessionals (clearly 'main')
- 2. cast members who aren't in opening credits but appear in multiple episodes/storylines and in the confessionals ('supporting')
- 3. cast members who aren't in opening credits OR confessionals but appear in multiple episodes/storylines or in minor/cameo roles. ('guest')
Cast members in category 2 don't really fit the traditional 'recurring' label as they sometimes have more screen time than some of the main cast members, hence the 'supporting' title.

UPDATE: IN ORDER TO FIT WITH WIKI RULES, cast must be credited in three categories only, Main, Supporting (eg featured in confessionals/multiple storylines) and Guest, with guests credited in episode details only. 05:39, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
- The 'recurring' template makes things a lot easier:
- Anyway, can you please link to the rules stating about the maximum categories of crediting? Thanks. Kelege (talk) 05:35, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- There's no maximum number of categories per se, we've just been cautioned in the past by mods to keep things as simple as possible to veer away from stylising the tables. The usual Main, Supporting (Recurring for characters in fiction shows) and Guest template keep things in line with the rest of the television cast tables on Wiki. - Ah right. I follow the same practice, I was just curious to the details. Kelege (talk) 06:39, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Recurring is not neccesarily a fictional term, because it's commonly used on table for both reality and fictional shows, on reality shows they are refered to as "recurring 'cast members'" but yes supporting does make more sense Zhyboo (talk) 19:45, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Simplifying the cast timeline
editMany of the Wiki television pages are moving away from having separate "current" and "former" sections in the cast line for a more straightforward, overall approach (in fact I've seen the current/former format actively discouraged in talk pages). I wasn't sure at first but it fits better with the rules and visually it makes the timeline much clearer:
Starring | Seasons | ||
---|---|---|---|
1 | 2 | 3 | |
Teairra Marí | Main | ||
Moniece Slaughter | Main | ||
Apryl Jones | Main | ||
Hazel-E | Main | Supporting | |
Ray J | Main | ||
Lil' Fizz | Main | ||
Omarion | Main | ||
Soulja Boy | Main[note 1] | ||
Nikki Mudarris | Supporting | Main | |
Masika Kalysha | Supporting | Main | |
Princess Love | Guest | Supporting | Main |
Note:
- ^ Appears in the opening credits of the first two episodes of season three before being removed and reduced to minor guest appearances for the rest of the season.
Thoughts? I would still leave the bios separated as current or former, I would just change the cast table. Let me know and I'll begin changing the pages to suit this format. Pinchofhope (talk) 11:03, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
