Notability
editWhile this is a very impressive effort, I am concerned that the topic isn't notable; reviewing all of the sources I don't find any that establish notability; see the source assessment table. Gricharduk, do you have any additional sources that might contain significant coverage? BilledMammal (talk) 09:33, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- So, first of all, thank you very much BilledMammal for assessing the article and for the effort you put into the assessment table below. I have never seen that before and it's really good. To be honest, when I stumbled across the Hood article, I was a bit shocked - no name, birth date, etc. So, I thought I would research him and expand the article. The problem with that approach is that, until you have completed the research, you don't know if the person is going to be notable or not! Furthermore, I do agree with you; he isn't notable at the moment. I was hoping someone might write a book on the Olympic team now they know who he is (and the other members of the team). His amateur wrestling career is probably more notable than the rugby union. Most of the 1900 British rugby union team have stubs. To answer your question, there is a book on Rosslyn Park that does have some details on his rugby career but I can only find a copy in the British Library and I don't live in London unfortunately. I was thinking we could combine all of these stub players bios into the Rugby union at the 1900 Summer Olympics article as very few seem to have done anythng notable other than one game in Paris. Do you have the name of the book? It's possible someone at WP:Resource requests can help.- It is Hoyer-Millar, Charles Christian (1929). Fifty years of Rosslyn Park. London: Wyman & Sons. OCLC 60701784. British Library 002493178. It is available from some booksellers on eBay but I am not that keen (obviously) to pay for it. Gricharduk (talk) 04:07, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- I've requested the source; hopefully it has coverage. BilledMammal (talk) 02:45, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

I agree; that would generally be a good idea. BilledMammal (talk) 01:46, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

- There's an alternative to the general notability guideline, and its called WP:NBASIC:
If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability
– this may be the clearest case of what NBASIC is for as I've ever seen. The fact that a beautiful article of 70,000 bytes can be written – so good that it honestly looks like something at WP:FAC – shows this passes Wikipedia:Notability (people). I am really confused at why you would try to delete an article like this – just after it was substantially expanded – when you had left it alone as a stub for over a year past from your tagging of its notability! BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:55, 20 September 2023 (UTC)- "Substantial" is a higher bar than "significant" - you still need significant coverage to meet NBASIC, and we don't have that here.

Because it is hollow, and cannot not be hollow due to the lack of significant coverage. While it is an impressive effort, it is a series of statements of fact, joined together by off topic discussions of other people and events; it's suitable for a genealogy book, but not for a Wikipedia article.
