I added that King's Quest V introduced VGA into the series, but now that I think of it, I might be mistaken. So, can anyone confirm that VGA was used in all versions of the game? I'm not knowledgeable enough to be sure and I haven't played any version aside from the PC CD-rom one.

I'm pretty sure that the original release of KQ5 gave you the choice of either EGA or VGA, actually. MasterGrazzt 05:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
There were seperate EGA and VGA versions, a label on the bottom left corner of the front of the box denoted this. I also remember my Dad having a hard time trying to find the VGA version...we wanted to show off our new 386 sx/25!
I've just tried to clarify the EGA/VGA content in the article, but managed to confuse myself in the process. There definitely was a separate EGA release (320x200, 16-colour) but the original text also mentioned a "dual VGA/EGA version" using 640x200 (note: not 640x400!). I believe this method of supporting EGA only came in in SCI 1.1. I'm not sure that KQ5 was released in a SCI 1.1 version -- my version is SCI1 and doesn't support the 640x200 EGA mode -- but maybe the CD version was? If anyone can clarify this, please go ahead. --Stephen lamppost (talk) 14:01, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Voice Acting "Controversy"

edit

KQ5 is and was notorious for it's terrible voice acting. The actors used were actually Sierra employees, due to the feature being so new in gaming. Who here thinks this should be mentioned? MasterGrazzt 05:03, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't ever recall that there was a controversy over the casting of King's Quest V. Is there any website link evidence you can back it up with? Because that's the first time I've heard about it. By the way, this King's Quest V page is missing the casting credits which needs to be added on King's Quest V Wikipedia page CrosswalkX (talk) 12:35, 16 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

It might be worth a mention. I mean, it's mentioned on the Resident Evil page (another game known for its laughable voice overs). It might not need its own section though.

Verifying best selling game

edit

I have the first edition of the King's Quest Collection from 1995 (maybe 2nd). The accompanying form reads "Sales of King's Quest V during its first year shattered all known records for computer games." There's your verification. Slfarrell (talk) 00:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:KQV.jpg

edit

Image:KQV.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

! in the page name

edit

Not a big deal I guess, but to be fair, the ! only appears in the box art of the game. All references to "Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder" within the game itself (such as the title screen), do not include any ! (exclamation mark). The references in the KQV hint book doesn't have the ! either. The about page in KQ6 which discusses KQV, also lacks the ! in the title. References in the KQ7 strategy guide also lacked the !. In addition references in manual of Mask of Eternity also lacked the !. Granted in most manuals the vary between use of the ! or not using it.

Cedric

edit

Currently practically all of the references in the "In other games" section are somehow related to Cedric the owl, clearly suggesting he's the most famous character from KQ5. At the moment, the article doesn't really explain WHY that is the case. I think this needs some expansion, especially given that the treatment he's received outside KQ5 has generally been less than flattering. Jah77 (talk) 19:58, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

I've noticed it too, but one example didn't mention Cedric at all, and I've just added another example that also doesn't mention Cedric at all. Cardace (talk) 10:50, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
