edit

Per WP:DAB moved from (entertainer) to (bicycle adventurer) following http://www.bikingbis.com/2010/08/20/great-wall-of-china-bicycle-ride-might-become-a-future-movie/ Aug 20, 2010 - Filmmaker and retired bicycle adventurer Kevin Foster says he has a commitment from the Chinese government for funds to produce a film In ictu oculi (talk) 01:35, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: move to Kevin Foster (cyclist). There's certainly consensus that Kevin Foster (entertainer) doesn't work, and there appears to be a slight preference for "cyclist", as readers would be likely to recognizing him for his cycling, rather than as just a general adventurer. -- tariqabjotu 17:46, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Foster (entertainer)Kevin Foster (adventurer)WP:CRITERIA 1,2,3 and 5. No Google results for "the entertainer Kevin Foster" so following Aug 20, 2010 "Filmmaker and retired bicycle adventurer Kevin Foster says he has a commitment from the Chinese government for funds to produce a film". was originally proposed as (bicycle adventurer), amended after feedback In ictu oculi (talk) 04:14, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi no objection to Kevin Foster (adventurer) but I suspect people are likely to search "Kevin Foster + bicycle" In ictu oculi (talk) 07:19, 5 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
@168.12.253.66: I support (adventurer) per NoSuchUser and BDD and have amended RM. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:09, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Looks like our IP friend is happy with anything besides (entertainer). --BDD (talk) 04:22, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support and prefer bicyclist, though not by a great margin. A parenthetical disambiguator only needs to separate from the herd – from other entries a subject might be confused with, and entertainer here does a poor job. I don't think search engine considerations are really relevant to the calculus; I think all will find the right person and at a top result if the term not used in the title is mentioned in the text.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:20, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Agree. As for the exact dab, (cyclist) (adventurer) (bicycle adventurer) are all pretty much equal in my view. Doesn't seem anyone here feels too strongly among these either. In ictu oculi (talk)
Well, that listing was the result of a recent edit by IIO. All due respect to him, that was contrary to MOS:DAB (and in particular WP:PIPING); with few exceptions, dabs should display an article's current name. While Kevin Foster (bicycle adventurer) certainly isn't wrong or misleading, per WP:AT and WP:NCDAB, we should prefer diambiguating terms that are used in other articles. As you might guess, (bicycle adventurer) is used in none. --BDD (talk) 03:50, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
We should allow more latitude in parenthetical disambiguating terms, generally speaking there is a history of too-tight a constraint on making titles recognizable for the sake of shortness. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:08, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • It also occurs to me that (bicycle adventurer) is a poor semantic choice as well. What is a bicycle adventurer? Is it someone who goes on bicycle adventures? Is it a bicycle that goes on adventures? I don't mean to pick on you, SmokeyJoe, because I know you weren't the one who had the idea. --BDD (talk) 03:54, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Well, that is a point. It would mean that he explores bicycles? If it is not confusing, I would accept it, although a better suggestion is welcome. There is a problem here with disambiguating by occupation, where a person is known for multiple disparate occupations. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:08, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
