Name
editA quick Google search demonstrates that "Battle for the Barrel" is not the common name for this rivalry, nor is it unambiguous. Most sources on the rivalry never mention the name "Battle for the Barrel", and often don't mention the erstwhile barrel itself.[1][2][3][4] Additionally, the name "Battle for the Barrel" is used for many other games and events, including the East Carolina–NC State rivalry[5], several high school games [6][7], and a college hockey tournament.[8] Barring anyone showing that the current title is the most common, I'll be moving the article. If it retains its focus on football, it will be renamed Kentucky–Tennessee football rivalry; however it would be possible to include information on the men's basketball rivalry and perhaps other sports, as per sources such as[9][10][11], so it could be reworked as Kentucky–Tennessee rivalry.--Cúchullain t/c 15:47, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not opposed to it.--Daytona 500 23:57, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved to "Kentucky–Tennessee rivalry". There are other pages in the college sports rivalry category that don't disambiguate by sport. DrKiernan (talk) 18:18, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Battle for the Barrel → Tennessee - Kentucky Rivalry – This has been brought to my attention so I'm doing this to make it an official discussion --Relisted Armbrust The Homunculus 09:39, 25 January 2013 (UTC) Daytona 500 05:26, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Support Moving with alt rename. Appears two Kentucky football players were killed in an alcohol related vehicle accident in 1998, resulting in the associated trophy (painted keg) no longer being passed to the winner. See color on Official Tennessee athletics site, with a general absence of any references in the official Kentucky athletics site. Current lead paragraph of article even states, "The game was originally called the 'Battle for the Beer Barrel.'" citing 2008 ESPN story; Ongoing fan laments for the old name [12] and media coverage debating its return [13].
- Per conventions in List of NCAA college football rivalry games, article w/should be Kentucky–Tennessee football rivalry UW Dawgs (talk) 08:43, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Support, but the correct formatting should be Kentucky–Tennessee rivalry. Currently the article is all about football, but the basketball rivalry is also big and reliable sources are easily found.--Cúchullain t/c 14:40, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Existing article has nothing to do with college basketball and is solely focused on football. So it would follow the established football naming convention. UW Dawgs (talk) 17:22, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- I've added some material about basketball, so I'd recommend Kentucky–Tennessee rivalry at this point.Cúchullain t/c 17:18, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- Support move to modified proposal Kentucky–Tennessee rivalry. HandsomeFella (talk) 17:24, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Comment I don't believe the basketball rivalry has been established as notable, yet. Support removing the new content and moving article to the football naming convention. UW Dawgs (talk) 19:26, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- What do you mean? It's the only section of the article with real sources (now
fourfive of them). The basketball rivalry is easily as notably as the lopsided football series.Cúchullain t/c 21:33, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
