editMy name is Tucker Carmen White. I'm known by the username Nascarking here on Wikipedia (but you already knew that if you're looking at this). I joined Wikipedia on December 5, 2009. In my early days here, I was heavily involved with professional wrestling articles. I often clashed with the more experienced members of Wikiproject: Professional Wrestling because I wasn't as versed in Wikipedia policy. These days, I devote the lions share of my time working on NASCAR articles. I'm the user who does most of the writing on the race reports like the 2015 Daytona 500. You can also find me working on other motorsports articles and anything related to my beloved Tennessee Volunteers (particularly football).
Outside of Wikipedia, I'm majoring in journalism at the University of Tennessee (#GoVols). I'm a diehard fan of the Atlanta Braves as of 2015. I haven't decided on what team to pledge my allegiance to in the National Football League. I'm floating between the Atlanta Falcons and the Tennessee Titans. But at the end of the day, my allegiance to NASCAR comes first.
Feel free to edit my page if you think there's a mistake or just want to add anything. Unless it's vandalism, I'll more than likely keep it.
People I work with on Wikipedia
editIn my years of working here at Wikipedia, I've come to work with some great, reliable and trustworthy users. Unfortunately, most of them are retired or no longer work to a large degree on Wikiproject:NASCAR or even Wikipedia in general. So I have to work with these losers. *sarcasm*
If somehow I can't help you, maybe these losers can: (again *sarcasm*)
- User:Ptb1997: Paul works with me a lot on individual NASCAR race reports (especially on race day).
- User:ZappaOMati: Zappa works with a lot of the miscellaneous stuff – like stats, finishes and other etc. – on NASCAR articles of drivers, crew chiefs and race teams. He also uses an alternate account by the name of User:NFLisAwesome when he's on a public computer to prevent any hijacking of his main account. He'll usually be on the alternate account during the middle of the day and back on his main account in the evening. He's also heavily involved with any articles related to the Chicago Bears and anime.
- User:Bcschneider53: Ben is a bit more across the board with his NASCAR-related article duties. He specializes in working on older NASCAR race reports (i.e. races before the explosion of the Internet). He also works to create motorsports career results tables for older NASCAR drivers and occasionally looks to improve the biographies of the drivers themselves (specifically seen with Sam Hornish Jr.). Additionally, he does a lot of work on game show articles if that's something that interests you.
- User:Royalbroil: This is a user that's been a user on Wikipedia since the very early days (I know that sentence sounds redundant. Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department). He's an administrator on English Wikipedia (and Wikimedia Commons) who's heavily involved here at Wikiproject:NASCAR. So if you have something more technical like needing to move a NASCAR-related article or other etc., Royal is the user to go to.
Racing
editFor me and others just like me, racing isn't just a sport. It's a religion. It's a sport that gives me such great joy. I can't imagine anything more awesome in life than driving a Porsche 917 flat out down the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, drive a lap of the Nordschleif of the Nürburgring or race in a pack at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.
With that joy comes tragedy. Auto racing is the most dangerous sport on the planet. Any wrong move could be the move that kills you. I've seen so many people die in this sport in my life that when someone dies in this sport, I always ask myself "Why do I watch this? Why do I watch a sport that, as much joy as it gives me, has shed so much blood in the name of taking the checkered flag?"
"A lot of people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well. When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting."
Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in the 1971 film Le Mans
Sure it's a quote from a movie, but coming from a man who was a connoisseur of all things racing, it describes why racing is great.
"Nobody wants to see the lion tamer get eaten by the lion, but we do want to see him stick his head in the lion's mouth."
Humpy Wheeler
Nobody wants to see a driver get killed, but we want to see him spit in the face of the grim reaper, give him the middle finger and drive off.
"Racing, competing, it's in my blood. It's part of me, it's part of my life; I have been doing it all my life and it stands out above everything else."
Ayrton Senna
Racing was life for the three–time world champion. It was the very thing that, up until his steering gave way in the Tamburello corner at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, gave him the greatest joy in his life.
That may sound selfish, but I don't find it to be any different than people who fly planes for a living. It's a dangerous profession, but it's a profession that someone has to do and can be a great way to make a living.
"You can't let one bad moment spoil a bunch of good ones."
Dale Earnhardt
There are going to be bad days in life, but you can't let that ruin the good days.
