A1:Nothing is being covered up. This article is written according to summary style which requires that material in other articles is only summarized here in this article. The information about McCain's use of the term "gook" is discussed in the articles on John McCain 2000 presidential campaign and Cultural and political image of John McCain. Many other controversial remarks by McCain are detailed in the latter article. The "gook" comment was narrowly used by McCain with reference to the specific people who captured and then tortured him in Vietnam; McCain stopped using the term in 2000, and many Asians did not mind him narrowly using the term in the way he did. Singling out this remark for inclusion in this article would give it undue weight, and providing the necessary background and context would also take up too much space in this article. This issue was previously discussed in March, May, and June of 2008.
A2: As stated above, this article uses summary style; think of it as an executive summary of McCain. Palin disinvited to funeral by whom?
editArticle mentions that Palin and Trump both disinvited from funeral by McCain's request, but I was unable to substantiate this with regard to Palin from the two footnotes cited. I did find a BBC article which suggested Cindy was the one who asked, via an intermediary, that Palin not attend. McCain's funeral should have its own article
editWith how huge and significant McCain's funeral was, and if RBG's death and funeral can have its own article, I don't see why McCain can't. Vinnylospo (talk) 06:53, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, I think the section is greatly over-written. Note that all of it was added after the article was promoted to FA, as he was still alive then. If you want to make a separate article about the funeral arrangements, knock yourself out, but what is there now includes a whole lot of less important stuff and WP:RECENTism. Even Lenin's much more historically important funeral and lying in state is less than half as long as this bloated section. -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:35, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- We have several articles on notable funerals. But you may need to personally write one on MCain's funeral, as there seems to be limited interest by other editors. Dimadick (talk) 12:53, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
