Years Attending College

edit

I'm not sure of the proper way, according to wikipedia editing style, to keep track of the years college basketball players attended college, since the season is split between 2 years. The way most people do this is to refer to the year by the number that the season ended in. So, for example, although Carmelo played during 2002 and 2003, he only played one season, so it should be referred to as "2003" to make that more clear. I've edited all the players' years to reflect this. Agerard 05:21, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok I went to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (dates and numbers) and asked this and here is what I got...

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Longer periods says "A slash may be used to indicate regular defined yearly periods that do not coincide with calendar years (the financial year 1993/94)."

I have edited the article to reflect this. Salisbury Steak (complaint dept.contribs) 02:48, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Boeheim did not play in ABL

edit

Under heading "playing", it is stated Boeheim played in the Atlantic Basketball League, which ceased to exist in 1955.

Boeheim played in the Eastern Basketball League 1966–72. The Atlantic League did not exist at that time. Boeheim did not play in the Atlantic League at all.

Someone could fact check this if they think it of consequence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.120.160.55 (talk) 02:09, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Discrepancy in Career W-L record

edit

Aside from the usual back-and-forth of people (fans) persistently adding in his 101 vacated wins, there seems to be an issue with his career losses as well. I entered his seasonal W-L records as listed here into a spreadsheet, and as of tonight's loss, I have it at 376. His page at https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/jim-boeheim-1.html (which includes his vacated wins in his career total) shows him at 375 before tonight's loss, so this validates the 376 that I came up. Is there a reason that I'm not aware of for the several edits which keep subtracting 2 losses? Thanks. AJC3fromS2K (talk) 04:39, 13 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Boeheim in 2014.
  • ... that Jim Boeheim (pictured) was the head basketball coach at the same place (Syracuse University) for 47 years? Source: Boeheim does not have a parallel in major college athletics. There has never been a Division I coach in men's basketball, women's basketball or football who has spent more than 40 years at their alma mater and never coached anywhere else. Boeheim's the only one. There is no coaching figure more synonymous and literally affiliated with only one school.

  •   @Kiran891: Sorry, but I don't think this is eligible to be approved as per DYK rules, every nomination must be created, 5x expanded, or made into a GA in the past 7 days. this doesn't look to be 5x expanded in the past 7 days and thus, is ineligible. Sorry. Onegreatjoke (talk) 19:21, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
