Should Jesper Kyd be in, Category:Danish composers, as well, or he naturalized American? Siyavash 21:16, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I guess I just made this decision, before seeing this question. :) I filed him under "Danish" because he became (IMO) a notable composer before moving to the U.S. I would consider someone "Danish-American" if they moved to and became a citizen of the U.S. before establishing their career. Could argue for the latter, I suppose. --Vossanova o< 13:21, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree he should be categorized under Danish composers. Se for example Hans Zimmer who lives in Los Angeles and is notable for his career in Hollywood. He is listed as German composer. Tranqulizer 15:09, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's a whole back story to Jesper, including his involvement in the Commodore Amiga demo scene as part the coding group Silents in the early 90's which is not mentioned in this article. 212.159.16.124 13:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hitman movie

edit
Just a curious aside - I noticed Kyd had no involvement in the score of Hitman the movie's music (from what I've read so far). Considering how Kyd's music has impacted the Hitman series, I found his lack of presence in the movie noticeable and maybe worthy of commentary. 192.206.151.130 (talk) 14:43, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Good idea, ill have a look for info. ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 01:23, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

IOI wont be using him for Hitman: Absolution (new upcoming Hitman game) either. Kinda blows because his music is half the game, it just doesn't feel the same without it. The atmosphere is gone.--77.103.237.230 (talk) 04:51, 8 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

New pages

edit

Im going to begin creating pages for his scores, connecting them all together with a chronology and create a navbox for all of his works. Right now im cleaning up and sorting out the few existing score articles for his work such as Unreal Tournament 3 and Kane & Lynch that others have made but not done properly; obviously their contributions are appreciated though. thanks ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 04:15, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just created {{Jesper Kyd}}

Will add more score pages and stuff to augment it, also some .ogg audio samples to spruce it all up a bit :) feel free to discuss the template and any additions in the discuss section for it. ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 19:22, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

EDIT: Also added more external links to good interviews, a quote section and the wiki project banners at the top of the talk page to hopefully get this page moving better. :) ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 01:22, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

UPDATE

edit

Hey all, just adding an audio section with two really good samples that show his versatility from the assassins creed score, as some idiot decided it would be a good idea to delete them from the assassins creed page that was recently merged with the page for the game itself...anyway, they should be on here somewhere so i will add an "Audio" section to this page. ΤΕΡΡΑΣΙΔΙΩΣ(Ταλκ) 07:24, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Kyd combines sounds of dark ambient, electronic and symphonic music..." Let's just put in one example per style. Dark ambient - Unreal Tournament 3 (Outpost/ Necris Attacks) , electronic - Hitman 5 , symphonic - Assassins creed (1/2). Since these soundtracks are on the official websites, is it OK to post samples here? Requesting acknowledgment. Kernelmode (talk) 12:41, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Editing Jesper Kyd Wiki page

edit

Hi there, I have a quick question. (I am new to Wikipedia, sorry if this is going to the wrong place).

I would like to offer my help to create a more accurate and up to date wiki page on my music. There is no mentioned of my music since 2012 on the wiki text. Since there is a conflict of interest here, should I make suggestions to the Jesper Kyd Wiki Talk page first or can I add missing info from 2012 - 2018 directly into the wiki page. I will of couse keep the text neutral.

Jesper Kyd

@Officialjesperkyd: Welcome!! Since there is a conflict of interest that you freely disclose, the best path would be to propose the changes here on the talk page so other editors are able to implement the changes. I'm not a frequent music editor, but I will add this page to my watch list and update the information as I'm able. Other editors will also be able to add the information as well. If there is anything else, feel free to leave another message here or contact me directly by clicking the word "Connect" next to my username. Again, welcome to Wikipedia! Hello Jesper, and welcome! I have edited your article in the past and I am very happy to follow your suggestions for improving it even more. So feel free to leave your recommendations. Cheers --Λeternus (talk) 07:29, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, feel free to suggestion changes to anything that's untrue/outdated/needing to be added, and assuming it can be independently verified (Wikipedia prefers the use of third-party reliable sources, see WP:RS) they shouldn't be a problem for any experienced editor to handle in your place. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 16:37, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for helping out. Here's some minor suggestions to Freedom Fighters in bold below.

He recorded the score for the action/adventure Freedom Fighters with the Hungarian Radio choir which was described by Film Score Monthly Magazine as "Vangelis on steroids". Billboard Digital Entertainment Awards nominated Kyd’s score for Best Use of Soundtrack, and Game Audio Network Guild Awards nominated Freedom Fighters for "Best Original Vocal Song -– Choral" (for Main Title and March of the Empire). Leading video game web site GameSpot awarded Freedom Fighters "Best Music of the Year".

-

And here's a few gramatic errors and tweaks we found marked in bold below:

Jesper provided a cinematic Middle Eastern score for for Ubisoft

at Capitol Studios which won music of

SYFY Channel's TV series Metal Hurlant Chronicles

-

And here are some suggested tweaks:

He then produced the Italian Renaissance music for Assassin's Creed II, recorded in Los Angeles

2009 G.A.N.G. Awards and Hollywood Music in Media Awards. (The theme ‘Ezio’s Family’ was voted the most popular theme music in the Assassin’s Creed series and can also be heard in the scores for Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Rogue, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Origins.) Jesper then wrote the scores for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed Revelations (co-composed by Lorne Balfe)

followed up with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and the DLC Claptastic Voyage.

Virtual Reality with the score for the PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift game Robinson: The Journey and then back in time with a dark medieval fantasy score

score for Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer universe.

In film Kyd scored the Chinese 3D fantasy film Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe (2015), directed by Lu Chuan and Indian fantasy thriller Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve (2018).

In 2018 Kyd also scored State of Decay 2 and Warhammer: Vermintide 2. At Canadian Music Week Kyd received the 2018 Nile Rodgers Global Creators Award for his work in video games scoring. Previous recipients of the award include Paul Shaffer, Spike Lee and Tony Visconti.

  • Thanks, I'll try and find sources for the claims (third-party verifiability and all that). However, there are some issues here. Firstly, (The theme ‘Ezio’s Family’ was voted the most popular theme music in the Assassin’s Creed series and can also be heard in the scores for Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Rogue, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Origins.) is a fan-based vote from Facebook, and we don't include things like this unless covered by third-party sources. Secondly, I don't see the need to include the directors after the mention of each film, as that's not really relevant to the fact you wrote music for them. But the rest are valid, and I've taken the liberty to fix a few more things according to the Wikipedia Manual of Style. I'll continue doing more fixes (or another editor will) at a later time. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:49, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for helping out. A quick note from here...right now it looks like Vermintide 2, State of Decay 2 and Tumbbad were released around the time of Ghostly Tribe which was released in 2015. So I suggest a tweak that is more accurate and makes it clear that those 3 released were released much later or in 2018.

Also, would it be possible to include a text about my "Ezio's Family" theme being heard in the scores for Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Rogue, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Requesting help from editors for important updates and corrections

edit

We are ready to implement updates for https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Jesper_Kyd, to respectfully correct important factual errors, some spelling, and bring the article into the present. Please take a look, and let us know if anyone has any suggestions or corrections. If a seasoned editor would prefer to implement it, they are welcome to do so. Otherwise we will go ahead and update it in a couple of days to allow for anyone to adjust, comment, or edit the wiki article itself.

The original article's integrity is maintained to the best of our ability. The adjustments were made in collaboration with, and verified by Jesper Kyd, for full disclosure. If needed, we can provide a version with the corrections in bold.

Intro

edit

Jesper Kyd Jakobsen (/ˈkɪd/[citation needed] (February 3rd, 1972), is a Danish born composer who has written the soundtracks for some of the most successful video games and notable film projects, such as the award winning dark fantasy film Tumbbad. He has composed soundtracks for the Hitman series, Assassin's Creed series, Borderlands series, Darksiders II, State of Decay Series, several Warhammer games such as the End Times Vermintide Series and Warhammer 40.000 Darktide among many others.  His scores use orchestra, choir, acoustic manipulations and electronic soundscapes.

Early years

edit

Kyd started playing the piano at an early age. Growing up, he took several years of classical guitar training, note reading, choir singing and classical composition for piano. However, he is mostly self-taught. Kyd started using computers for composing on a Commodore 64 at age 14, and later an Amiga 500. In their mid teens he and Mikael Balle became founding members of the demogroup Silents DK, based on an invitation from Silents Sweden. The members of Silents Sweden later founded the developer Digital Illusions (DICE). After a series of award winning demos, Kyd and Balle later started collaborating with a group of coders known as Crionics. They eventually made the Amiga Demoscene production Hardwired, which showcased Kyd/Balle’s design and music style mixed with the coding style of Crionics. Kyd also co-created and scored the first wild demo, Global Trash 2, together with Mikael Balle, which gave birth to the wild demo scene. Kyd and Mikael started putting on demo scene concerts and their debut concert was at The Party 2 in Denmark, at the time, one of the biggest demo scene events. These concerts did not include Kyd’s Amiga music but consisted of music made with analog synths, drum machines and samplers and featured custom made videos. Kyd then left the demoscene and started to work as a composer for video games. He co-founded the game developer Zyrinx together with members of Crionics and Silents DK and their first game Sub-Terrania was made for the Sega Genesis (Called Sega Megadrive in Europe) and published by Sega. Subterrania and later Red Zone was created with Amiga 4000 computers and Zyrinx used their own game engine and hardwired the Sega Genesis with a custom made system that allowed the team to program directly into the Genesis cpu via an Amiga. Zyrinx made a custom music program that could play back 6 channels of FM in 44hz quality which Jesper used to write his Genesis music. They also made many seemingly impossible things on the Sega Genesis such as rotating backgrounds and full motion video. After the sale of their debut game, the team relocated to Boston and later ended up in Los Angeles, where Kyd composed music for the Sega Genesis titles Red Zone, NitroWrecks (unreleased) and the Sega published game The Adventures of Batman and Robin developed by Clockwork Tortoise. Zyrinx then moved on to the Sega Genesis 32X and eventually the Sega Saturn where they released the Saturn/PC game Scorcher which features a Kyd soundtrack composed entirely with the Sega Saturn music system. This music approach allowed the developers to load graphics of the CD in real time, without CD based music interfering in the graphics streaming. Kyd’s next score, Amok by the developer Lemon, was his first, non chip-music soundtrack. It was a CD based score, created without the constraints of an internal music chip, freeing him up to use real instruments. The music would stream off the CD while the game was running. Zyrinx dissolved in 1998 when their game publisher Scavenger went bankrupt.

Here are a few points which I think need to be clarified before any further steps are considered.
  1. Thank you for disclosing the fact that you have a personal connection to the person you are writing about. However, please make a more explicit and complete statement of the nature of that connection, and try to make sure that you comply with Wikipedia's guideline on conflict of interest and, if your connection is a paid one, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use relating to paid editing. One of the things which you will find is discouraged by the conflict of interest guideline is "[going] ahead and [updating] it in a couple of days" if you don't find anyone else who chooses to do so.
  2. You use the word "we". Who are "we", and do all of the people involved have access to editing with your account?
  3. Almost all of the information you have posted is unsourced. Wikipedia article content should be supported by citations to reliable sources independent of the subject of the article. Unless and until suitable citations are provided the information will not be suitable for adding to the article.
  4. Although the proposed text you have posted is not blatant spam, some of it is written in somewhat promotional language. For example, I am not sure that I have ever come across the word "showcase" used as a verb by anyone who is not trying to market or promote something. JBW (talk) 21:21, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not done for now: The edit request has been marked as declined for the time being. It would be preferred to split the rewrite into seperate requests (like one for the lead and another one for early years). Remember that all information has to be sourced with citations to reliable sources. Don't add the information yourself but rather wait for your future requests to be responded to. You can see WP:COIREQ for further guidance. NotAGenious (talk) 09:08, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
