Extinct?

edit

I'm sitting in my living room in Tokyo watching a TV show where the host is playing with two of them and taking them around to swim in hot springs and the like. This is the "kawauso," or カワウソ. So how extinct could they be? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.216.99.100 (talk) 10:46, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

カワウソ in general are not extinct. It's the particular subspecies Lutra lutra whiteleyi that is possibly extinct. See the Japanese articles on カワウソ and ニホンカワウソ. --Ptcamn (talk) 00:38, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
What you watched must be this program (please click '青木さやかの旅企画' you can see on top left) and those kawauso were コツメカワウソ/Oriental Small-clawed Otter, not Japanese River Otter. Oda Mari (talk) 10:02, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Same species as Japanese otter

edit

Japanese otter and Japanese river otter are the same species. Source: Taxonomic Status of the Japanese Otter (Carnivora, Mustelidae), with a Description of a New Species Online --Melly42 (talk) 15:33, 19 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

So, go ahead and merge it. Hafspajen (talk) 23:50, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Duplicated article.

edit

There is currently another article "Japanese otter" on the same species. AnnaComnemna (talk) 14:32, 24 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
