In a university course on history and culture the professor talked about this incident. He explained that since the airline was Japanese, when the airplane had the layover and many passengers were hospitalized, a Japanese diplomat visited and expressed his regrets for the situation. Even though he did have a direct responsibility for causing the poisoning, the sense of shared national responsibility and shame made him commit suicide after that visit. My professor made no mention of the catering company manager for which sources exist that he committed suicide. In my brief research attempt to find information on this diplomat, I have not found any sources that mention him. So I don't know if the diplomat story is apocryphal or under-reported. In any event, I wanted to mention it here in case it could help other editors find more sources on the matter. Thank you. Al83tito (talk) 18:00, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
